To think a lot of women are “dating down” just to avoid being alone?

I’ve seen too many brilliant, beautiful women mothering dusty men and calling it love.

Before I joined MN I would have said no, surely women aren’t still taking crap from unsuitable men or settling for the sake of what society expects from them. But the posts I see here have proved the opposite! I do think online dating has ruined things though. I was amazed to discover recently that so many women think it’s weird or creepy for a man to ask them out in a bar or club, that men have just stopped doing it. If online dating is the only way to meet someone these days then I am destined to stay single - but to also keep a clean bathroom, have a kitchen where everything is where it’s meant to be, not have to share my bed with someone who snores and to decide what I watch on TV!

But hopefully they aren't intelligent to know how to put on a show and pretend to be helpful and respectful towards his mum/women, because some know how to pull the wool.

Interesting thing about this is the same could be said of the opposite.. I think it depends on the country too.. In america for example women most definitely don't settle for less, aka 'Losers' but by equally that has distorted the market as men checkout (they don't want to pay $300+ on a date for a woman who then completely rejects them and get's a free meal, which is often the case) So culture is relevant here also.

As a male I do know an amazing women (victoria secret level) but also smart and has a high paying job. If I showed you a picture of the man she married and has been with for years you would genuinely think I was lying. It's not just that he's massively less attractive physically speaking, but he is the most bland human you can imagine.

Again though, there's a 7ft male friend of mine who looks like a young Arnold Schwarzenegger (but actually facially attractive) is with a demanding, constantly drunk 4ft,2 woman with zero personality. Oh and he's literally the most polite, mentally stable person I know who has a high paying job. In other words ticks every box of the modern woman. So, it definitely cuts both ways *

Those women are lesbians or bisexual, totally fine but there are heterosexual women where that option doesn't appeal. So it's either settle for rubbish men, wait for a good one to come along or remain single.

For the same reason it's not acceptable to send gay people to conversion therapy. People's sexual preferences about whether they fancy men or women shouldn't be forced. By your theory literally everyone should be bisexual if they are able to fancy either sex

Also potentially horrendous for those women who are being used to see if they'd be an acceptable substitute for straight women to see if they could avoid dating men.

I was single until I found a man I fancied who was empathetic, who treated me well and was worthy of my time and effort and he obviously felt mutual attraction and wanted a relationship with me also.
The option isn't dating shitty men or forcing yourself to try to fancy women.

It's not possible to date up. Men seem to be competent and all knowing at work but useless in real life. Unable to clean themselves, their clothes, look after themselves, cook, exercise, family and friend responsibilities etc.

Yes, quite a few of my friends did. They wanted children, time running out. Standards and expectations lowered .

For me, when I was in my 20’s and 30’s it was stigmatised to be a single woman and there was a lot of ‘invisible’ pressure to be in a relationship, that seems to have ended now and women are seen as strong and independent rather than weird when they choose to be single. This allows me the choice to live my life for me finally and I’m so happy I am living at this time in history. Simply, women now have choice thanks to financial independence and so many are choosing happiness rather than obligation. I think it’s wonderful. I’ve been married twice but there won’t be a third 😁

But I recently read a good explanation of this phenomenon: a man decides it's time he got married, or he wants to try married life, so he goes for the nearest average single woman he knows, so long as she doesn't have an actual criminal record!! In other words, he takes what's in front of him. However, five to ten years down the line he will start having affairs.

They’re probably the abusive men who look like the the perfect man to outsiders.. but in reality do nothing when no one’s looking. The ‘boring’ wife has lost all her individuality and feels trapped
