I’m 39, turning 40 at the end of the year.

My husband thinks I’m being ridiculous with what I spend, but we can afford it comfortably and it makes me feel good.

I spend £42 every 3-5 weeks on nails, and every 3 months or so an extra £15 to get my eyebrows waxed and tinted.

i spend £140 every two months on getting my hair extensions moved up, and then every 4 months an extra £77 to get my roots done.

he thinks this is silly money and an extra £110 a month we could be saving, but I work, it’s my only real splurge each month and it makes me feel great. Am I spending too much? How much do you spend?

OP posts:
CoastalCalm · 17/07/2025 22:04

£20 a month BIAB nails
£40 cut ant blow dry every 10 weeks

AlertEagle · 17/07/2025 22:08

£0 because I do my own nails, hair and eyebrows

Summershutdown · 17/07/2025 22:08

I have my nails done every 4 weeks @ £30
Toes done much less regularly but that’s £27

I have my eyebrows waxed every 6ish weeks at £7

I tint my own eyebrows.

I have my hair extensions tightened every 4-5 weeks which is £20 ( mates rates )

Colour, cut and blow dry every 6-7 weeks £95

Buying new hair extensions £400ish every 8 months.

Twice a year I have Botox at £200.

KickHimInTheCrotch · 17/07/2025 22:11

About £30 for a haircut twice a year. I've spent money in the past on highlights, waxing and facials but it doesn't add anything to my life or make me happier so why bother?

Biids · 17/07/2025 22:11

Zero

Nails are cut with nail scissors. Nothing else done to them.
No makeup, no eye brow stuff, nothing. Whole face left alone other than washing in shower with baby soap.
Zero on hair other than buying shampoo and conditioner. Cut at home with hair scissors. Not coloured, curled, straightened or anything.

I’m late forties

That said, if it makes you happy, it doesn’t seem an unreasonable use of money.

bouncydog · 17/07/2025 22:15

Prior to retirement, £110 every 4 weeks for trim and colour and £55 every 4 weeks, plus £75 every 3 months dental. Since retiring I spend very little as spend so much time travelling I keep changing appointments!

Motherland2624 · 17/07/2025 22:15

£200 a month hair and brows and nails

OutdoorQueen · 17/07/2025 22:19

Botox every 3 months = £60pcm
Nails / toes = £40pcm
Brows = £20pcm
Lashes = £30pcm
Facial = £60pcm
Treatments = £100pcm
Skincare = £60pcm

£370pcm 🤣🤣🤣🤣

As far as I’m concerned it’s worth every penny! Am mid 40’s have worked hard for my money & I like to indulge myself!

Kids are grown up, hubby wouldn’t bat an eye about it!

Invest in yourself always!

Would you say the last lift is worth it? I’m really interested in getting one!

This is so funny. Your asking if your spending too much and then now looking at doing more 🤣. I think if you can afford it and you enjoy it and it makes you feel good then you should do it !! I bet your DH spends money on stuff you think he shouldn't ?! Personally, I spend £50 every 6 weeks on hair cut and colour. I do my own nails and eyebrows.

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/07/2025 22:21

Again.....this is NOT about nails. This about a fucking selfish man spending £££ on his golf but refusing to pay any child care costs and resenting his wife spending a fraction of what he spends.

AreYouAGod · 17/07/2025 22:21

Crazyladee · 17/07/2025 14:07

Nails and gel toes (summer only for toes) - about £50 every 3 to 4 weeks.

Hair - £75 every 8 weeks for highlights toner and cut
Botox - £180 every 6 months
Skin boosters - £240 for a course of 3 boosters (summer only)

Brows - £18 every 8 weeks for henna brows.

I honestly don't want to think of how much money I spend on skincare products on top of all that. I go for Korean skincare products as well as Elemis. I do look after my skin though and try to save money wherever I can.

Which Korean skincare would you recommend??

If you can afford it and it makes you feel good, ignore him.

Justkeepswiimming · 17/07/2025 22:21

Absolutely nothing. I haven't even had my hair professionally cut in about 6 years. I can't justify the cost for any of it. But I would like laser hair removal.

SP2024 · 17/07/2025 22:25

About £100 every 2-3 months in haircut. Maybe once/twice a year £70 on a massage - for pain not pleasure reasons! When ttc I also did acupuncture at £80 a week. Don’t get nails done (it’s really toxic) and tweeze my own eyebrows. Minimal make up/moisturiser etc. maybe £20 a month it averages as.

BeamMeUpCountMeIn · 17/07/2025 22:25

Do my own nails for Monday - Friday. That probably averages out £5 a month.
Legs are lasered with Philips lumea, that was £300 4yrs ago.
Don't do eyebrows etc.
Hair trim 4 times a year, £40 a time.
Use blue tub Nivea for skin.
Splash out on philip Kingsley elasticizer every few weeks at £20 a tube.

Just read the whole thread..I 100% agree with this.

DappledThings · 17/07/2025 13:53

Never had my nails, brows or anything else like that done. Haircut is about £50 and I try to go about 3 times a year but I hate it so it's usually only twice a year max.

But there's a huge spectrum of what anyone choses to spend money on in this area. None of which will help you because you could find 100 women who spend 5 times as much as you a month and 100 who spend zero.

@DappledThings

doesn’t your hair grow out of its style by about 15 weeks though? And if you colour it - what about roots?

Agree with this. I belatedly just read all the OP's posts. This sounds abusive and nothing to do with our Ndulge points balances.

Genevieva · 17/07/2025 14:35

So you list c.£1,635 expenditure per year after tax. I think it’s a lot. I spend about 10% of that. Two hair cuts a year. I do my own nails. I only like short, neat nails with clear nail polish. I am also unwilling to support nail bars, given their association with people trafficking.
Presumably you also buy shampoo, conditioner, face cleaners, moisturisers… Are these expensive or budget?

You can only spend money once.

@Genevieva

my hair would look terrible if I only went to the hairdressers twice a year. I’m not going to do that.

Allmarbleslost · 17/07/2025 22:34

Nails £32 every three weeks, haircut £52 twice a year. I colour my hair myself and have never had anything done to my brows or lashes.

I don't know if this is an option but I've started using moyou nails. Gel stickers and a UV lamp. Feel as strong as acrylic but easy to remove and no damage x

Fundayout2025 · 17/07/2025 22:37

Cut and blow dry £5, nails ( rarely) £10. Eyebrow threading £6 . Lash lift £15.

Oh and occasional facials at £10 and massage at £5 ( abroad)

AInightingale · 17/07/2025 22:40

Why do you have to 'pay him back' for caring for four children - HIS children - when they were small?! That's the hardest work anyone will ever do and a fuck sight more important than poncing round a golf course. Does he have any idea how much childcare would have cost over that period?

He sounds vile OP honestly. Sorry.

CheshireCat1 · 17/07/2025 22:42

Hair £12 every few weeks, I’m otherwise happy with myself as I am.
