I’m 39, turning 40 at the end of the year.

My husband thinks I’m being ridiculous with what I spend, but we can afford it comfortably and it makes me feel good.

I spend £42 every 3-5 weeks on nails, and every 3 months or so an extra £15 to get my eyebrows waxed and tinted.

i spend £140 every two months on getting my hair extensions moved up, and then every 4 months an extra £77 to get my roots done.

he thinks this is silly money and an extra £110 a month we could be saving, but I work, it’s my only real splurge each month and it makes me feel great. Am I spending too much? How much do you spend?

Do my nails myself with dip powders. They look just as good and last longer than gel polish I used to get which was £38 every couple of weeks.
I have a natural curve to my brows so just tweezer the strays. I tint them Myself when I can be bothered.
Ive got long eyelashes so some black mascara is enough for them to look like false ones !
Dye my hair myself. Haircut costs £50 every 3 months or so.
I do spend my money on M&S moisturiser and eye gel. Think it’s the formula range as I’m mid 40’s now and the crows feet have come out !

Radioundermypillow · 17/07/2025 23:42

I'm 58.

130 hair every 2 months
Botox 150 twice a year
Eyebrows and lashes 55 4 times a year
Medik8 retinal 70 2 or 3 x a year

New - WLI 120 a month

So lots.

Don't be so ridiculous! Leave your lashes alone, listen to your husband. £110 per month on such nonsense is crazy!!

@RoseAlone

Have you read all the OP’s posts about her controlling husband. Her beauty treatments are not the issue here, the man is an arse.

JockTamsonsBairns · 17/07/2025 22:42

I don't spend anything! Probably partly because I can't afford it but, also, I'm not really bothered about 'grooming'?

I'm 52 and would quite like to get my eyebrows tinted though. Mine are so thin, they're barely visible.
I feel a bit silly though, because I don't know what to ask for? 😳

Um, an eyebrow tint

Golightly133 · 17/07/2025 23:45

weight loss injection £200 per month
reformer Pilates £200 per month
high lites £100 every 5 weeks
nails £40 3 every 3 weeks
eyebrows wax tint £20 6 weeks
I spent years never doing any of this then found my mojo and love it,

BethBynnag86 · 18/07/2025 00:04

Cut & Blow every 6 weeks or so = £15.

If you can afford it it’s fine. We all spend money on different stuff. Personally I don’t do any of that. I dye my own hair at home every few months (£11 box dye), I paint my own nails and I just pluck my brows into shape and use a brow pencil to fill them in. I worked for Clinique and then Chanel for years and years so I’ve always had access to huge discounts on beauty stuff but I’ve also learnt that spending more doesn’t alwqys equal better. I don’t enjoy salon etc so I never go to them. I get my hair cut maybe once a year just to cut the ends off. I’m 44.

I spend money on holidays, eating out and days out.

Same here

HeyThereDelila · 18/07/2025 06:56

I’m 39.

Nails: 0
Hair, cut on average once every two years: £40
Lip and eyebrow wax about once a year: £20 or thereabouts

That’s it. Not bought makeup for years and wouldn’t touch botox or fillers etc with a barge pole.

TubeScreamer · 18/07/2025 07:57

Hair £40 every 5 weeks. That’s it.

I don’t have the time or inclination to do all the other stuff.

Yeah that's what I said when I was 39!

Had my first lot of botox at 57. Game changer for the frown lines and just generally look far less tired and much less resting bitch face.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 18/07/2025 08:05

Nothing.

Hmcs · 18/07/2025 08:05

botox every 3 months £250
hair every 2 months £80
i used to spend £40 every 2 weeks getting my lashes done but i started pulling them out so stopped
same with nails i bite them off
so i only get nails and feet done maybe 4 times year at £80 a time
im probably going to get my brows microbladed in a few months

ForUmberFinch · 18/07/2025 08:33

If it’s your money, why not? I am not nearly as high maintenance 😂 I have my hair done every 8 weeks (£90) and I have a hot stone massage and holistic facial every month (£100). I also attend yoga and myofascial release classes/courses. So spend about £60 on that

Ginmonkeyagain · 18/07/2025 08:46

£70 every three months for a hair cut, £60 once a year for a pre holiday pedicure and manicure (I do my own feet and nails the rest of the time). £100 a month on pilates and yoga classes. I probably spend about £50+ or so a month on cosmentics, make up, hair treatments, face creams etc..

If you can afford it spend the money on what you like.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 18/07/2025 08:05

Nothing.

@tumblingdowntherabbithole

what you literally never get your hair cut?? Are you Rapunzel??

Sunaquarius · 18/07/2025 09:08

I get a haircut, maybe once a year and that's it lol. But I'm a SAHM so don't have the time or the money for these things. If I went back to work and my kids were older I'd probably happily spend £100 a month on beauty treatments.

Like you said, you work and can afford it so I don't see why not.

VeryStressedMum · 18/07/2025 09:09

I don't get my nails done, I do my own toenails
I dye my own hair with box dye
I get my haircut twice or three times a year which is £30 (fab lady who cuts superbly she works from home)
I don't get eyebrows or lashes done
But I get Botox a few times a year £150-200 a time and I've just paid £500 for a course of 3 micro needling
I bought an led face mask to use at home
So it's probably the same as people who get all the things I don't, I choose to spend on different things

VeryStressedMum · 18/07/2025 09:10

I also get regular deep tissue massages £50

JRM17 · 18/07/2025 09:20

I think the nails and brows are acceptable but the amount u pay for your hair is making my eyes water, im with ur husband on that. I pay £40 every 6 weeks for my nails, my brows I wax and dye myself so £12 for a kit that lasts 6months and my hair I pay £25 every 4 months.

ACupFullOfCrazy · 18/07/2025 09:35

AInightingale · 17/07/2025 20:55

Where/how do you get your hair cut for twelve quid?! Thought that was a male privilege.

I just go to a drop in hairdresser who does a dry cut, I have vertigo and cannot have it washed as I cannot lean backwards or forwards

Lollzi86 · 18/07/2025 09:46

Nails £30 every 3 weeks or so. Pedicure £40 once a month. Eyebrow wax/tint £20 every couple months. Haircut £42 probably 3 times a year, lucky enough not to need colouring (yet!)

TreeDudette · 18/07/2025 09:50

I buy a box hair dye once every 6 weeks at around £10 (less really) and I get my hair cut 4 times per year by the local mobile hairdresser and she charges £15 but I tend to give her £20. So annually £160 which averages out at £13/month.

I spend more than that on dog treats but I am definitely not appearance conscious!

diterictur · 18/07/2025 09:52

I think the thing with hair is - if you have naturally great hair, a cheap cut is fine. If you have tricky hair, it isn't.

I have very curly hair which is always tricky to cut but the older I get the more tricky it is. Having finally found a hair dresser who can cut it well, I am not going elsewhere!

SloppyThePoodle · 18/07/2025 09:53

I'm 33

I spend £10 a month getting my fringe trimmed. I tried doing it myself but looked like Richard III.

I don't get my nails done or my hair dyed. I probably have the lengths of my hair cut every couple of years or I trim it myself.

I don't get eyelashes or eyebrows because I already have them. All I do is pluck my eyebrows myself to stop them becoming out of control. I've got the meditteranean generous eyebrows gene.

No botox or fillers because I don't care and I don't want them.

I spend the most on skincare, i have stubborn adult acne so spend about £50 every month on topical spironolactone, and retinol.

So overall £60 a month.

BoudiccaRuled · 18/07/2025 10:01

I have a haircut occasionally and that's it. Prefer to spend my money on school fees and free range chicken.
