One million immigrants claiming benefits

1000 replies

AnxiousApocalypse · 16/07/2025 01:15

Just been reading the comments sections of the Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail articles about the one million foreigners claiming benefits in the UK. It feels like the final nail in the coffin and a lot of people will feel even more justified in expressing their anger and hate towards immigrants. What happens when Reform win the next general election and come into power? Will people be rounded up en masse and put in detention centres like the USA?

Nobody is gaslighting you. We’re just offended at your bigotry and inhumanity. Sorry if you don’t like the truth.

UC covers, amongst other things, childcare costs. So again these headlines fail to point out that most of the [EU] claimants are working.

47.1% of people on Universal Credit in the "EU Settlement Scheme" immigration status were in employment in May 2025.

Exactly. I think there should be a period of maybe five years of solid working until an immigrant can claim benefits.

Plus the money illegals get, whether it be £8 or £48. They get three square meals a day and accommodation. What's this extra money for? A can of deodorant? We make it too peachy.

I promise it’s not nice there. I have seen patients at disgusting hotels in London. The food is slop. And tiny amounts. And the same food every day. Nobody could continue to eat that, however ‘grateful’ they should be.

I met a decent family from Iran. Professionals, persecuted. The wife wanted to cook but the £8/week is not enough to buy provisions. It is a shit life. Esp with kids. Heartbreaking. These people would rather be working in Iraq and be with their families. But they might die there so here they are. With children and suffering. but alive I guess.

Oh and ofc there are all sorts of asylum seekers there too. Aggressive ones. Drunk and drug issues. Mentally unwell ones. This poor family were terrified of some of the residents. Like in real life, asylum seekers are a heterogenous group of people. Please don’t stereotype. The decent asylum seekers hate the aggressive predatory types as much as you do.

It’s not fun. Your comments about deodorant are unpleasant and show no understanding of the reality for some people in this situation.

The numbers seem to indicate that there are c640k people who are not from the UK or EU who are claiming benefits excluding refugees.

It's not said if these folk work or not, but assume that it's a similar split working/not working as for people from EU i.e. 50/50, that's 320k people from outside UK or EU not working and claiming benefits.

The average UK benefit claim is £1k, so est. £320m a year.

Given that the black hole in the UKs finances was £22bn in 2024....where is it coming from?

Tax and VAT evasion cost something like £13bn a year. The hidden economy costs something like £2bn a year. Surely we need to prioritise tackling this given the sheer size. I'm not sure how though.

Everywhere I look in my home town I see groups of young immigrant men wandering around. This is the middle of a weekday, so, like you say, either they're all on nights or they're claiming benefits. My neighbour no longer goes into town because she's so intimidated. The journalist Alex Philips posted a good video on what it's like for a young, single woman in London these days – the constant hassle, being followed home, etc. You can see it on YouTube. In fact, I'd say my town has been overwhelmed. There is a university in the town, and I suspect the student visa system is being exploited.

My local words have been hacked down to make way for two new estates, and a second massive estate has been built at the other end of the village. Judging by what I've been told, and the languages I've heard, I'd say at least half the people who've moved onto those estates were not born in the UK. Most of them are from Somalia or Nigeria or the Middle East. Now the fields in the centre of the village are being built on as well. My village is being destroyed around my ears.

What sickens me is that I know the left would be delighted. Not only are they 100% on the side of the immigrants (even if they did come here by posing as refugees or by exploiting the student visa system), they also get a sadistic pleasure out of seeing us horrible middle-class NIMBY scum having our lives ruined. Because though the left like to pose as morally superior, in reality they are vicious, spiteful and hate-filled. But because their hatred and spite is directed towards Daily Mail reading Brexit voters, somehow it doesn't count.

Where is your home town? Are the estates social housing?

You apparently do not know what gaslighting is. It's not saying things you disagree with FFS. It's a form of emotional abuse where the abuser tells you you're crazy or imagining things even though he/she knows for a fact those things happened, because in most cases, the gaslighter is responsible for them.
I wish this current trend of using gaslighting to mean disagreeing would fuck right off. Far too many people are doing it. It trivializes the experience of genuine gaslighting, which is awful.

Of course they are working people. There are no benefits for eu citizens who dont work. Maybe before but during and after brexit everyone has to work. Most claimants have children and claim childcare like I do, my child is british. I dont know of anyone who isnt working and claiming benefits from the eu unless they have a cheat code.

I have a teen dd who has been harassed numerous times by migrant men on her way to college, I was actually with her once when it happened and witnessed it myself. She hates it and feels very uncomfortable.
We are not in London but in another large city.
There's a new estate currently under development in my area 100% without a doubt that this estate will be almost if not 100% inhabited my migrants as its just the way it is now around here. It's come to something when its an actual shock to see an English family being housed on our estate in England because it just no longer happens, even though many english families are trying and bidding on these properties. As soon as a house becomes vacant can guarantee the new tenants will be none British.
As a result our once lovely well cared for estate has become incredibly run down and scruffy with rubbish dumped everywhere, scruffy gardens and windows. they just don't seem to have the same pride in how their homes look and its been so sad to see the decline in the area as a result.

It is amazing that so much social housing is suddenly being built in your and other poster's area. Great news after the inability of the Tories to do so.

Germany is huge compared to us. We're a tiny island drowning with immigrants it seems. I'll only change my mind when I'm no longer the only white face on the bus and when I can access housing and healthcare resources that aren't drowning because we've let too many immigrants in and our borders and border force are absolutely useful. I'll change my mind when these men, who I am paying for are proved not to be rapists or any other criminal. When they stop looking at women like theyre a piece of meat because I see this happen daily. This country is a fucking mess.

Remember your other thread you started? Where you wanted to find out about Muslim women and why they didn’t swim in the sea. You claimed to love learning about other religions and cultures and loved learning about Islam. I didn’t comment on that but could see how disingenuous you were being. It’s all come out on this thread! True colours…

Just this really. Noone is talking about how the money and prosperity our country has was gained by raping and pillaging other countries and creating an empire that stole the resources of other countries and got slaves to do the work. Surely it's only right that we share some of our ill gotten gains with people that need it after what we did in the past.
We can't even give back historical artifacts that we stole, our museums are stuffed full of them. It makes me sick and I'm not proud to say I'm British when I go abroad.

Haven’t we done enough of that already with immigration

I wasn’t alive and my ancestors were hard up as many people were. Kids down chimneys or in mines

I was wondering this too but couldn’t find the pp’s post. There’s lots of house building going on near me, thousands of houses on three estates. But the social housing element is tiny, affordable housing slightly more. Houses start at £380k.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/915732/immigrant-employment-rate-uk/
In the UK 19% of workforce is made out of immigrants. 76.4 of UK born citizens were in work compared with 84% EU born nationals i. 2025 first quarter. Lots of jobs are taken by immigrants, many low paid low skilled (if care can be considered low skill). Many take farming hard jobs that require 10-12 being on their feet carrying heavy stuff. I take this personally because I myself am an immigrant and since I came here 14 years ago, I never, and I mean never, stopped working. Many of my eastern european friends are the same like me. Not all, but majority. Many stayed in shit conditions cramped in small rooms and broke their backs picking strawberries all day on the frields. Do not complain, we know what to expect but please don't judge. The sacrifices that we made to succed here away from any support system is enormous!
Did not take a penny and contributed lots to the economy. Please have consideration, see the other part of the coin and don't paint us all with the same brush. Lots of love to everybody !

UK immigrant employment rate 2025| Statista

In the first quarter of 2025, approximately 82.4 percent of people born in the European Union but living in the UK were employed, compared with 74.6 percent for the UK-born population, and 74.1 percent for people outside the EU and UK.

What do you mean dont paint us all with the same brush? Do you believe we should feel guilty for having the eligibility to claim uc? We work and pay taxes, some of us claim, some us dont. Nevertheless we work. A poster said if we all went back home someone will fill these low skilled jobs, who are these people who will go and pick strawberries where are they. Are they waiting for us to leave? We do play a part in the economy and we shouldnt be made to feel guilty just because we are eligible for help from the gov. Anyone who isnt working should be ashamed whether they are british or european or etc

I meant to not think that majority of immigrants are coming here just to claim as is easier, is not and we are not. Of course you have right to claim, nobody said you don't. But if you want to spin a negative twist on a positive compasinoate post you can go ahead!

I don't mind people, immigrants claiming benefits but what I don't like is all the fraud and fake English schools getting people into uni or UK with fake certificates or fake marriages, fake illness and so on.

In some cultures bribery and corruption is an expected part of business, we need to wise up.

Haha - what?! Who is doing any of that?!
