AIBU to think that MNers are excessively hateful towards trans people?

Wordsmithery · 13/07/2025 08:50

I accept that there are huge areas to be addressed when it comes to trans/non-trans rights: toilets and changing rooms, sporting events, prison accommodation, to name but a few. Government has a lot of work to do, listening to people's genuine concerns and drafting laws that protect everyone. And of course biological men masquerading as trans to prey on women are scum.
However, reading some of the many MN threads on trans people, it feels like there is a terrifying level of vitriol at the right of trans people to even exist. I emphasise, this is not about toilets/safe spaces etc. It's about Will's right to identify as Jill, or vice versa. Why does it really matter so much to us - are we scared of people being different? Are MNers failing to speak out because they're terrified of being shot down in flames? How is it hurting any of us if someone chooses to identify as their non-birth gender (beyond the caveats in my first paragraph)? What is the opinion of MNers with children or siblings or best friends who announce they are trans ?
Asking because I'm alarmed by the lack of trans allies (or even trans tolerators) on this forum. And I'm even more alarmed that there may be a reassuring number of trans allies on here but we never hear from them because they know what response they'll get.
No hate please. We seem to have enough of that already.

Women: We don't want men in our single sex spaces
TRAs: Die in a grease fire bigot bitch. TERF. Decapitate TERFs. Kill the TERFs. If you see a TERF punch them in the fucking face.
Women: Yeah, that's why.
'Allies': Gosh those women are so hateful to such a vulnerable minority.

Perfectly put

I'll assume the pp is unaware of the meaning of this word and has just made an unfortunate neologism.

Let's hope so.

If you claim Mumsnet is such a 'hotbed of transphobia' (even the cliches are predicable and repetitive), then let me ask you this.

Why does the general tone of this site, if so drenched in transphobia, profess support for trans men?

Amid the relentless, aggressive push for trans rights, why are trans men virtually ignored?

Why is it only women the TRA routinely seek out to scold for daring to congretate and express opinions they don't happen to like?

Why don't you try that number on men, given it's men who are claimed to be the problem in not allowing trans women to 'pee in peace?'

Confess it. This whole perfect shitstorm is nothing whatsoever to do with trans people. It's about persecuting women, oppressing women, and putting us back into what you see as your box. But, fortunately, there's been far too much sunlight on too many turning tides over the past 2-3 years for people to unsee it now. This nasty, misogynistic campaign is rapidly running its course and losing hearts and minds. And this isn't because 'the most persecuted minority' are hated merely for existing - it's down purely to the lobby's aggressive misogyny, its bullying and its remonstrations to women to 'reframe your trauma' and 'enjoy your erasure'. Not a nice feeling, is it?

You are not now reaping the results of feminist prejudice and mean, far-right, biogted, neo-Nazi women - plus all the rest of the repulsive slurs you've levelled at anyone who dares recognise that an ideology with no room for debate or questioning is a dangerous thing.

Look no further for the cause of your loss of public support than your own behaviour. You did this to yourselves.

#NoDebate, indeed.

Absolutely nails it.

Waitwhat23 · 13/07/2025 19:20

As I saw someone on here say a long time ago, 'you can no debate all you like, the debate will continue without you'.

And it did.

RetiringRita · 13/07/2025 19:27

I have seen a number of posts on AIBU and FWR calling all trans men (FTM) mentally ill. The mothers of these people often get berated for poor parenting.

I’m not from the UK or Europe or anywhere remotely similar, and I was SHOCKED at the transphobia here. It’s put me off the UK, but now I see where JK Rowling gets it from.

Are you also shocked at the misogyny against women who think women's sports should be for women?

Sure you have.

As a long tine poster on this subject I can confirm I have and reported them.
I had to change my username as I've been attacked for speaking out.
I've even been stalked on mumsnet.

Ah, India, so persuasive for the trans cause.

Edit: sorry, should have realised the screenshot wouldn't get quoted. But you can see it above.

Viviennemary · 13/07/2025 19:42

It's a silly fuss about a tiny portion of the population.

Who are the population that remain unaffected in law and with regards to societal policies if "man" is redefined as "male or female adult" and "woman" is redefined as "male or female adult"?

Making all spaces mixed-sex affects everyone.

Yes it's so silly to worry about the female prisoners being sexually assaulted by men in womens prisoners.

Yes it's so silly to worry that NHS staff will lie to police for a year that a female patient can't have been raped because they're were no men on the ward

It's so silly to worry about the harm being caused to women by such a tiny minority isn't it

Gosh yes, you're absolutely right.

Women, don't forget that your rights to safety and dignity in your own spaces are such a 'silly fuss' to society at large.

So STFU ladies and let the men do what they like. There's a dear.

@Wordsmithery we're here. But the arguments and vitriol are just so cyclical and repetitive, that there is no point engaging with them. So we make the odd comment, occasionally, and move on.

Thank you 😊

Ah you're back

Are you going to answer any of the multiple posts addressed to you?

Imdunfer · 13/07/2025 19:56

The vast majority of women want biological men kept out of women's sport, women only spaces and women only shortlists.

You know what?

The vast majority of trans people agree with that.

A very vociferous and aggressive and overwhelmingly male to female minority cause problems for all those people.

All people who are leading difficult lives deserve compassion. It is that compassion towards the quiet majority of trans people which is lacking in these online discussions, Mumsnet and elsewhere.

RedToothBrush · 13/07/2025 19:59

Viviennemary · 13/07/2025 19:42

It's a silly fuss about a tiny portion of the population.

1 person who is trans identifying, has an impact potentially on thousands of women over the course of their life.

One trans identifying male who has a dubious agenda, can cause a huge amount of harm. That's the issue.

This matters.

If you look at the number of trans identifying people rather than the number of women who are impacted you are missing the point and aren't fairly representing the issues.

The entire point is we are assessing impact not counting trans identifying people.

DdraigGoch · 13/07/2025 20:02

BunfightBetty · 13/07/2025 08:55

Can you put some actual examples here where posters have displayed a ‘terrifying level of vitriol at the right of trans people to exist’?

I’n struggling to relate to what you’re saying, as what I see is concern for the rights of women and the safeguarding as children. Not hatred towards trans people for being different. So it would help to have some examples.

Also, the ‘lack of trans allies’ - what would you like ‘trans allies’ to be saying on here and to what purpose?

Come on @Wordsmithery we're all waiting for some examples.

Assuming you are correct why is that quiet majority of trans people upset at all by women requiring their rights to be upheld?

Surely that has no effect on them and is not harming them?

If keeping men from invading women's single sex spaces IS drastically affecting that quiet majority then you need to explain how, and I doubt you can.

Yes, I absolutely do believe in single sex spaces but my personal view is that unisex facilities should always be provided alongside them.

Transwomen (men) have said that unisex facilities are no use to them. It has to be the women's and there must be women in there.
