Why can’t parents look at the term dates for DC schools

Schools here, broke up yesterday. Today on the way to shopping, I saw about 4 sets of kids and parents with children wearing school uniforms. I have friends who have DC attend these schools (2 schools) and there are no day trips or classes today.

My friends knew the term dates as on parents pages and WhatsApp groups

What! Is today the last day of term? SHIT!!!!

Around here it's not there's another week and and half.

It could be a end of year assembly or prize assembly for a certain year group - having so many be in uniform does suggest it's more than one or two families not checking calanders but something your friends are unaware of.

Scampilicous · 11/07/2025 11:31

Watch motherland 😂😂😂😂

GameOfJones · 11/07/2025 11:32

I simply do not believe that four separate families would all have missed the huge fuss for the last day of school before the summer break. All of the "see you in September" comments, school finishing early, coming out with bags of workbooks etc?

It's far more likely you have it wrong.

Rewis · 11/07/2025 11:33

I haven't had kids that went to school in UK yet so this might be a dumb questions. But isnt the last day of school somehow special? Like, Im used to last day of being very obvious where the kids go to school, get their report cards, have ice cream, there is a show/concert in school, the kids changing schools (like elementary to secondary) sing a farewell song etc.

I once took my kids to school on an inset day. I'm a busy parent and I made a mistake, no one died as a result. We've also got staggered finishing days and hours depending on school year so it's not that difficult to get it wrong.

I did that once.

Found out later about a quarter of the school did - date wasn't on school webpage and two classes one s with my DC in were told a different day of the week - newsletter had different date and no text/messages reminding.

They still thought parents should just know - it was lucky I could be around some parents were in a huge pickle. Rest of the time at the school they were very good at sending out reminders and having correct dates on newsletters.

Yet another bitchplop one post wonder OP

Moveoverdarlin · 11/07/2025 11:37

I agree with you OP - the amount of parents on the WhatsApp groups that say ‘what time does sports day start?’ ‘Where do we meet for the trip?’ Can they wear their PE kit?’

I screen shot the email from the school giving you every minute detail and just send it in reply to the group.

What I really want to put is….

READ THE FUCKING EMAIL BECKY!!!!

I’d feel such a twat being continually out of the loop and appearing to know fuck all about my children.

Aptapt · 11/07/2025 11:38

Oh dear..the summer hols have just started and OP is bored already. Clearly has a lot of time on their hands to come on mnet and complain about something that has 0 impact on her life 🙄. Looks like it's going to be a looong summer for you OP 😆

FfaCoff · 11/07/2025 11:38

I'm another one who took the kids to school on an inset day once, luckily a teacher saw me half way there when I was walking up and pulled over to tell me. I felt a right wally!

I'm actually wondering though if you've seen that many apparently get it wrong, the more likely explanation is that there is something on at the school that you don't know about OR there has been some sort of change to the end date that other parents have missed somehow.

Epidote · 11/07/2025 11:39

If that school does the same as mine that doesn't included the inset days as you have to check it in another page of the app I can't blame those parents.

Theunamedcat · 11/07/2025 11:40

Laiste · 11/07/2025 10:03

God imagine if it's you that's got it wrong and there's another week to go !!!!!

I was thinking this too....are you sure school is finished 😂

Edenmum2 · 11/07/2025 11:42

Congrats OP on being better than them

Bitchplop - I love that and will start using it forthwith! Perfect word for these type of posts!

Jesus we are all out here doing our best and you never know anyone else's circumstances, they clearly have lots on their minds so give them some grace, maybe they have adhd, maybe theyre dealing with a lot, maybe they're just not v organised. Give people a break, it has literally zero impact on you

Shocked at the voting and if people think it's acceptable that parents are this useless and clueless. YANBU OP!

LowDownBoyStandUpGuy · 11/07/2025 11:49

I also thought of Motherland straight away!

Anyway OP you don’t know 100% of what is going on at the school, it would be weird for anyone to miss that the last term of the school year had ended as it’s such a big deal, our school do have to send out about a million reminders though so maybe it’s more common to forget than I realise.

OK - so you are being unreasonable. I no long her school age children - but a quick Google tells me end of term is around 22/23 July this year.... So I assume you're kids must go to private school (fine no judgement) but surely you realise most schools haven't broken up yet??
And even if they had - it's quite easy to make a mistake on this - dont be so judgy.

OneInEight · 11/07/2025 11:51

I have to confess mine got an extra days holiday one time when I had for some reason unilaterally decided it was a teacher training day.

TheignT · 11/07/2025 11:55

I just can't imagine why it would bother you.

Lollipop2025 · 11/07/2025 11:55

I have 3 children at 3 different school which all have different last days of school or inset days and half days ect. It's a bloody nightmare to know what's happening all the time. I do put it in my Google calendar but i still struggle to know what's happening for who.

Also just give people a break. It has no impact on you what's so ever.

Modernme · 11/07/2025 11:58

I think every mother on the planet has got the wrong date at some point.
Busy with kids home life work not everyone is going to be on the ball at all times.
Im not a mother but i have had to ask about dates etc where ive been so busy stuff just flys over my head.

WimbyAce · 11/07/2025 11:59

Seems q early to have broken up unless Scotland . We have another 1.5 weeks.

Depends where she is - it' another week and bit here but Scotland often earlier and Leicester it's Monday 14 th - they are often different to surrounding counties so couple of inset days they could already be broken up.

DS did AS-level exams last year at college (no uniform) - he knew he needed to go back a few weeks to college to start AS2 work - a few of his peers missed that - but he finished a few weeks earlier than school where DD2 was at and he didn't realise.

They did a week of fun actvities last week - he thought it odd but only when a freind told him before end of last week did he realise - at post 16 he gets himself there and back no I have zero input and don't get the same level of commication from college - a valueable lesson in checking not assuming for him.

IkeaMeatballGravy · 11/07/2025 12:05

Thinking back to when I was a kid that would have been so great to get to school, only to realise it's closed! I hope the poor mums have back up childcare if they need to go to work though.

Very few people, if anyone can get through the whole of their DCs school lives without making a single admin error. I once turned up to a school assembly none of my DCs were in, I realised after it started and had to sit through it politely.
