To ask what you think about Starmer’s plan to stop the boats?

1000 replies

WhereIsMyJumper · 10/07/2025 22:30

I cannot see how his ‘one in one out’ plan is going to help. I also can’t understand why France is cooperating with us. What’s the incentive?

If you don’t agree with this plan, what would your answer be?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ckg6x4g6gg6t

Starmer says 'one in, one out' migrant deal with France to begin within weeks

He says small boats migrants will be returned to France, in exchange for asylum seekers who have not tried to enter the UK illegally.

You want to kill people as a deterrent?

Did you see the interview by Dominoc Cummings? He has a solution where the people smugglers are treated as enemy combatants and shot. Which would soon put them off. He said that was how to solve the small boats crossings. Unclear as to whether he is actually advocating for it. It's not something I would support. But it may.come down to that if we start getting more terrorist attacks here and they are carried out by boat people. Over 80% are young men and many come from countries where they fought against us. Many will have lost family members and will have no love for us here. I would sometimes like the government to consider the human rights of it's own population sometimes.

BIossomtoes · 12/07/2025 09:54

What do you think would happen if the boat they were in was destroyed?

If someone told you they may deflate your boat if you crossed a border : would you cross the border ? No. Exactly. So is there any need for you to deflate a non existent boat that hasn't dared to cross ?

The person who dares to cross knows the threat (it isn't without warning) so they'd be making an informed decision to cross and risk having their boat deflated. Or..... They could then use this information to decide to try to access the UK legally?

Milo won’t like that suggestion.

Did you see the footage of the French police deflating a dinghy? They did it in very shallow, waist height water. Nobody was killed. I don’t think anyone is advocating for deflating them when they’re right in the middle of the channel.

That isn't what the poster said if you care to read your own thread:

If we starting making deterrent threats , such as we will deflate the boat if entering our waters

Entering our waters does not mean deflating boats a few feet from shore. Nor would it be an effective deterrent as people would wade to shore. It's nonsensical.

TopPocketFind · 12/07/2025 10:02

Nobody with an ounce of humanity would advocate shooting at refugees and asylum seekers.

Yes but Dominic Cummings is very very clever. Much cleverer than any of us. And he's been in high level government. Which none of us have. So it's reasonable to give his suggestions at least some thought? Try his interview and see what you think. You don't need to agree with everything or anything he says. But he.knows more than you Milo. Stuck there in your Moscow flat doing right wing circle jerks on your BMX.

Yes, lots of sociopathic types have sniggered about killing people. There's absolutely no evidence that asylum seekers are carrying out terrorist attacks. And oddly, you're talking about human rights while wanting to get rid off them.

Personally, I think it would be more effective to deflate them in shallow waters on the French side.

Even so, you took that statement from that poster to mean she wants them all killed. Which was a huge leap, if you think about it.

“Whatever else they get”? What they get is 9.50 per week, if they are in “hotels” where meals are provided. That’s it. Those meals are not good quality, often aren’t enough and are mass produced. They are not living it up in 4 star hotels with room service and a spa. I’ve been in these places. One which used to be a 4 star hotel, but had been closed for a few years before they took in asylum seekers. Very little work was done to reopen it. There is damp and mould everywhere. Rooms which previously were lovely double rooms how have 4 single beds in them. They have no access to any of the amenities in the hotel. Frankly, I wouldn’t let my dog sleep in one of these places. Mobile phones are not provided to them by the Government, but there are some refugee charities who provide old refurbished phones to some refugees so they can remain in contact with the agencies who are supporting them and dealing with their applications for asylum.

Where should these “detention camps” be? Is it reasonable for this to be for years because they are way behind in processing applications? The government has statutory duty to provide accommodation. Nobody gets to choose where they live, if they don’t accept what they are offered, they won’t get any financial support.

The reason this is costing billions is A) the companies who have these contracts for food and shelter are largely Tory cronies who are taking the piss and B) the departments processing claims have been woefully under staffed.

There hotel chain that my company work in are perfectly nice hotels, a step up from premier inn and the chefs make the food (smells like curry/spicy food).
most of the hotels in this chain are still used by asylum seeking men

That isn't what the poster said and the French have laws governing what action they can take.

You say there is ‘absolutely no evidence’.
is this because you know- or you have just decided this yourself?

Lovesstaggbeetle · 12/07/2025 10:14

Interesting concept about reframing the people smugglers as a threat. They bloody well are.

It's a multi pronged approach needed as these things always are.

No one has been "sniggering" you oddbod!

I want an overhall of what the "human rights" are. I would like a bit of proper application by the judges here and in Strasbourg of the law as the judges are making some out there decisions that bring the whole system into disrepute. Eg.chicken nuggets. They've gone mad I'm afraid. They need better training.

If I was a terrorist from Iraq say (my family were killed in the war) and I wanted revenge on the UK that fought against the Iraqis. Or I was a member of ISIS (yes they've raised their heads again in the online adverts people smugglers are putting out for crossings together with selling AK47s) and I wanted to get into the UK to join my sleeper cell or to carry out than attack, what would be the best way to slip into the country undetected or without the normal passport situation.?

I thought the Iranians that were detained were about to. The security assessment before that wasn’t there.

ETA it’s a bold statement by the pp to say no one would do this. People have tried.

I don’t work for M15 but I understand they’re always busy. Our terrorist attack level right now in the UK is ‘substantial’ which means a threat is ‘likely’ (words taken from their website).

Again, for all those woefully misinformed.

https://freemovement.org.uk/are-refugees-obliged-to-claim-asylum-in-the-first-safe-country-they-reach/

Loads of FACTS there about hoe we DON'T take our fair share, 'they' don't all come to us , and why there is so much disinformation.

The best solution would be to have a processing centre on coastal France, run jointly by the UK and France. It would massively stop the need for dangerous small boat crossings.

Problem is, Brexit stuck a knife into all that cooperation.

The country is at breaking point.
Why not close the borders for 12 months to all none British citizens.
No one is misinformed.
Get Keir Starmer out.

I can't believe you think vengeful Iraqis are coming here on dinghies. It's just another way of dehumanising people, making out that they're an 'invasion' and here to take over the country.

Since you know better than judges, perhaps you should train them. You know, in your time off from patrolling Dover for ISIS.
