To ask what you think about Starmer’s plan to stop the boats?

1000 replies

WhereIsMyJumper · 10/07/2025 22:30

I cannot see how his ‘one in one out’ plan is going to help. I also can’t understand why France is cooperating with us. What’s the incentive?

If you don’t agree with this plan, what would your answer be?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ckg6x4g6gg6t

Starmer says 'one in, one out' migrant deal with France to begin within weeks

He says small boats migrants will be returned to France, in exchange for asylum seekers who have not tried to enter the UK illegally.

On dear, talk about missing the point. If your referring to my deliveroo comment, it's not that they're ' taking away jobs', it's that asylum seekers are not supposed to be working at all! But take a walk down your local high street and this might not tally up with the reality. Didn't chris philp expose all this a while back?

I know they are not allowed to work, so direct your anger at the companies recruiting illegal workers. and don't use their services.

Official government data but if you have a different source, feel free to share

Because government are beyond statistical manipulation?

I'm collecting information on how many asylum seekers make up the UK population

What I'm not telling you is : I'm only counting the ones that are legal, that have been granted official right to remain and have finished that process in its entirety.

I'm not counting the ones still actively in the process, I'm not counting the ones who are in hotels (in their thousands) who are still awaiting even starting the process. I'm not counting the fresh influxes we receive daily via boats. And of course,I'm not counting the many illegals (both known and unknown )

Yes, I can see how the crude data says '16%'. I wonder if you included all of the above whether we would still have 16% ......

Two tier Keir has no will or guts to stop the boats. He's a human rights lawyer still at heart.

You say that like being a human rights lawyer is a bad thing.

Oh trust me, I don't. If you're too lazy to pick up your own takeaway anyway, you'll get short shrift from me. Yes, I'm angry at the companies but I also reserve anger at the asylum seekers taking the absolute Mickey. Free hotel, spending money, meals, free dentistry, medical care and it's still not enough. And it's all out in the open, they don't even try to hide it because they know absolutely no one will challenge them. Is that who you really want to grant asylum to - people who have absolutely no regard for the law of the land?

Hedjwitch · 11/07/2025 20:56

Pathetic. Get tough and do it now. These are boatloads of young males coming from France. They are not families fleeing war torn countries. Send them back. All of them.

User135644 · 11/07/2025 20:58

These men are pouring in in their thousands not because we can't do anything to stop it but because we won't.

Endless human rights legislation, and suicidal empathy, keeps them here; endless benefits and accommodation entices them here. We're the worlds soft touch.

If you can get on a boat and get put up a nice hotel, get all your meals given to you, waited on hand and foot and don't pay for anything, free health care and dentistry all freely available, then wouldn't you? Plus you can make good money delivering takeaway food on the side.

The UK is like a gold rush for these chancers. An El Dorado oasis. They get treated far better than our own veterans. Its an absolute disgrace, but why wouldn't they come here for all that?

I'm not really interested in the human rights of criminals. Not at our expense anyway.

Yes
Turkey and Pakistan are 2 such examples. Probably because they are bordering /are near to areas of conflict.

Your critical thinking is 'the UK is a soft touch' then?

Would you prefer asylum seekers not to have accommodation, food and basic medical care?

What do you propose we do with asylum seekers once they arrive here?

Exactly, we even have asylum seekers committing crimes and we still let them stay here, they must think we are stupid.

PreciousMomentsHun · 11/07/2025 21:44

Meanwhile thoroughly excellent, English-speaking, educated immigrants with connections to this country (historical and familial), from countries that share our general values and approach to religion, society and law, are either leaving or not applying anymore- yay?

It is when it's a well known abused group of rights that only serves to benefit the crafty ones .

Send them back?

How?

SquishedMallow · 11/07/2025 21:52

TopPocketFind · 11/07/2025 21:51

How?

France isn't a million miles away is it ? That's where they came from to get to us ? We do pay France millions to deal with these freeloaders. Perhaps they could spend that sending them back to their original country ?

MiloMinderbinder925 · 11/07/2025 21:53

SquishedMallow · 11/07/2025 21:50

Send them back?

That's not possible. France won't take them back and you need permission from their country of origin. You can't send people back somewhere they could be in danger and in order to know where they're from, you need to process them.

SquishedMallow · 11/07/2025 21:56

Well what do you suggest then ? I'd suggest making the country more assertive and authoritarian in it's attitude to illegal migrants first of all. Other countries do. These people are not refugees escaping war etc, they're economic migrants. As a pp said, who came blame them ? It's human nature to take the piss. We just have to stop being saying a metaphorical "kind hands" and start saying "no. Because I said so"

70% get refugee status, so the majority aren't economic migrants. I agree that people making that dangerous journey need to be stopped but it's a complex situation and there aren't any easy answers.

There are easy answers if we decide there should be. But nfortunately a lot of liberal lefts from this country do not know the reality of other countries outside the UK and how they effectively (or at least more effectively) deal with illegal immigrants.

My DH has an Albanian barber. Lived here 39yrs. Runs his own business, his wife is a matron in a hospital (both Albanian) both kids at uni. Made a wonderful life for themselves here. He was only ranting today to my husband about illegals being given it to easy and how it takes the piss out of UK citizens that are foreign born like himself and his wife.

My neighbour is from Kosovo. Fled war. Asylum seekers. Everyday he gets up and drives his taxi from 5am until 10pm. Both kids go to uni. He runs a local football team. Been here 15+ years. Mortgage, married, both have jobs. His an absolute grafter. Always in a shirt and trousers (just to drive his taxi !) he too regularly rants how all these freeloader immigrants are giving people like his family a bad name. I agree wholly.

Yet the liberal left assume we're all against all immigrants. We're not. We're against freeloaders. But unfortunately the liberals are there waving Their placards at the White cliffs supporting the very people there are causing harm to not only our country but our wonderful Muslim doctors, kosovan taxi drivers, Indian restaurant owners, Ghanian nurses.....

LakieLady · 11/07/2025 19:55

I can remember people banging on about it in the 1960s, when they objected to immigrants from the West Indies, and the early 70s, when Uganda deported thousands of Asians, many of whom had British passports and consequently had the right to settle in the UK.

Why did they get kicked out of Uganda in the first place. We never really hear about exactly why this was

EggnogNoggin · 11/07/2025 22:24

Alexandra2001 · 11/07/2025 17:41

Err thats not exactly what you suggested though is it?

He also said "Could migrants be offered fast track citizenship..." and these would be migrants who had already been granted asylum.

So yet another "pull factor"

What did I say?
