To ask what you think about Starmer’s plan to stop the boats?

1000 replies

WhereIsMyJumper · 10/07/2025 22:30

I cannot see how his ‘one in one out’ plan is going to help. I also can’t understand why France is cooperating with us. What’s the incentive?

If you don’t agree with this plan, what would your answer be?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ckg6x4g6gg6t

Starmer says 'one in, one out' migrant deal with France to begin within weeks

He says small boats migrants will be returned to France, in exchange for asylum seekers who have not tried to enter the UK illegally.

Candidates should be vetted and qualified. The whole donor system needs to be reformed so that corporate interests and foreign powers can't interfere to the extent they do now. We need better, more professional, more competent options to choose from. That's how you make sure that democracy doesn't get the rope to hang itself.

TBF quite a lot of this years intake wouldn't qualify. Including our Business Secretary who isn't qualified at all!

Well yes, it is easier when you speak the language and know the culture.

I am sure we would all opt for familiarity when in need of asylum

Not just that. We spend more per person, and even if it’s not great it’s better than many other countries. Plus higher grant rate.

Really? I'd opt for the most cushty number and that happens to be us.

I think that should apply across the board. This isn't a partisan comment.

Well who else has put on their CV an actual professional qualification that they don't actually have? (A crinimal offence, mind)

Or got into tje Cabinet by pretending they had experience and a position that they didn't?

We can say "not partisan" but it does seem a teeny bit partisan?

Let me see... Free bed and board usually in a fancy hotel. Free food. Free healthcare and 50 quid chucked in for good measure.

Asylum support

How to apply for asylum support if you're waiting to find out if you'll be given asylum in the UK

Hopefully Keir Starmer resigns in the morning. He is useless and corrupt.

1000 people a week approximately coming into the country and he wants to exchange 50. So zero progress.
He could stop immigration in 24 hours if he wanted to

You think? Immigration is a global problem. And it will get worse.

Would you like to swap?

Shared hotel room, £49 preloaded on card per week to live on, less if your accommodation is catered. Not allowed to work whilst your claim is being processed. Protesters outside. Scapegoated.

Fancy hotel? Even a 5* star *hotel is just a room without the 5 star service provided.

Healthcare, basic human provision. Unless you would like illnesses going unchecked.

Yellowshirt · 11/07/2025 07:26

Is it not breaking the law to enter a Country on a boat without any documentation?
If you support mass immigration you carry on paying towards it but people who don't shouldn't be putting a single penny towards it

You’re right- it is illegal, but the minute they say they are claiming asylum, they become legal- insane!

Still better than than a tent in Calais. A lot are working illegally with their accommodation etc paid!

TopPocketFind · 11/07/2025 15:28

Do you have the statistics on that?

If you look it up there’s an overview.

The UK spends significantly more per asylum seeker than many other developed countries, particularly on housing and related support. In 2023, the UK spent an estimated £25,600 per asylum seeker, which was two and a half times more than its closest G7 peer, Canada.

You wouldn't want to see tent camps here I reckon

Target the companies that employ illegal workers.

Get the army on the shores and turn them around. Stop benefits for illegal migrants. Pretty simple really.

It was before Brexit- can’t be done now!

Pre Brexit was only a few hundred and we took more than we sent back.

Indesperationrightnow · 11/07/2025 13:47

They need to be put on a coach as soon as they are brought here, taken to the airport and removed back to France as would happen if they attempted to get into the UK via an airport. If they are genuine asylum seekers they would seek asylum in the first safe country they arrived in. They are paying 1000s to get here... where have they got that money from if they are all pleading poverty? The Home Office posting up lists of 'This is what you will get' doesnt help either. Asylum claims and appeals taking forever also makes it worth their while to come here. I am sure the usual mob will come on here shouting about racism but this is an absolute disaster and people are sick of it.

Don’t you think if it were that simple that is what we would be doing? Unfortunately, due to Brexit we aren’t allowed to do this any more

GreenGully · 11/07/2025 15:51

No, because I belong here. I'm sure some pensioners wouldn't mind swapping though! They wouldn't have to choose between heating or eating.

'Not allowed to work whilst your claim is being processed.' Doesn't stop them though does it. Illegal working blitz catches Indian builders | Construction Enquirer News

Yes all the things I have listed are cushty. Pray tell which other countries offer the level of care that we do? Last I checked Macron had them living in tents.

I agree. Honestly I have a lot of sympathy as these people are coming from terrible conditions but we need to have some control over who is coming into our country. You can’t just enter a country illegally and then be free to roam the streets.

And lets not even get started on the sexual assaults and rapes.
