Moment police officer sobs after 'being punched at Manchester Airport' Police officer sobs

Vile the police officers were attacked by the media and by politicans. However, this is a seperate issuse - I don't think she should have been sent to deal with this in the first place.

I completely agree with the op

I take the train into work and there are often policeman at the station

They are all huge. Over 6 ft and built like brick shithouses.

They have a different effect to what a small woman would have. It's just biology really.

There is no height requirement for joining the police. The majority of male officers will not be “built like brick shithouses”. The average height for men in this country is about 5’9”. Maybe you’re thinking of nightclub bouncers or exaggerating for effect.

But ultimately it wasn’t the women who dealt with this situation, it was the male officers who physically subdued the attacker and they were the ones who risked losing their livelihoods and liberty because the female officer couldn’t handle the situation. Is that fair?

No, it was a female officer who managed who tasered one of them. So she dealt with the situation.

CurlewKate · 11/07/2025 06:25

Presumably women have to pass the same assessments that men do?

MoominUnderWater · 11/07/2025 06:27

YouWillFindMeInTheGarden · 10/07/2025 22:44

There WERE riots!

On,y because of perceived police brutality against Asian men iirc. Nobody was rioting over the police officers being attacked.

spoonbillstretford · 11/07/2025 06:34

Absolute nonsense. As long as they pass the same tests they are suitable.

Many men are unsuited to be police officers. Many current male polìce officers are unsuited to being police officers. I would never trust a male officer on his own after recent events.

Guavafish1 · 11/07/2025 06:35

If I was attacked I too would sob

its a human reaction.

Lougle · 10/07/2025 21:38

Honestly? I agree. I'm all for equality of opportunity and women's rights, but if I'm being attacked, I want the 6'3" built like a rugby player guy to turn up, not the 5'2" slim woman. That's the truth. I'm aware it makes me a hypocrite, and I'm comfortable with that.

Some women are 6”2 and play Rugby,
some men are 5”4 and slim.

If you’re not suited to the police, don’t apply to join the police. It’s not specifically a gender issue.

UpsideDownChairs · 11/07/2025 06:39

If it was the first time she'd been punched in the face, then having a moment is pretty normal for men or women - especially in the aftermath of the adrenaline.

That's why people go through so much training.

I don't think it's a 'woman' thing. I think it's a 'human' thing

Namechangerage · 11/07/2025 06:40

Lifestooshort71 · 10/07/2025 21:43

Do you mean because she cried?? Many people shouldn't be in the police for a variety of reasons (because they're bullies, dishonest etc) but if you're going to be then you must be prepared to do whatever the men do - my daughter is in the Met and would be horrified if she felt she was being sidelined because of her sex.

No because look if you see the video, he could have killed her. There’s a reason that boxers get paired with people of a similar weight - it’s not even to do with gender. Send your bigger officers to deal with violent offenders. I say this as a 5ft person too.

I don't agree - size can matter, but, I've watched a short, tubby, policeman, tuck his hands in his vest and talk down a tense situation where someone bigger and more threatening would likely have just escalated it.

If I've just been sexually assaulted, I quite likely would prefer a woman (or possibly a fatherly man of any size) to attend

Appropriate policing for the circumstances is fine. There's plenty of room and requirements.

Edit! DOh! I meant to respond to the person you were also responding to - I do agree with you, not them!

AhBiscuits · 11/07/2025 06:48

I have the highest level of respect for her but this was not a fair fight. It would have been completely reasonable for her to step back.
I don't think she'd have wanted to though.

An example needs to be made of these vile creatures. It's important that people know that the consequences of assaulting police officers is severe.

To think many women aren't suited to all police situations
PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 11/07/2025 06:54

crying after somebody punches you seems completely normal to me. Police officers are human. We should normalise police officers showing these kinds of emotions (whether male or female).

I personally- as a woman - would not be suited to this line of work. Many women (and men!) aren’t either. That doesn’t mean that the entirety of womanhood is unsuited! There has also been research about the benefits of having female police officers part of the force.

I‘d rather have police officers that cry when they get punched than bullies, sex pests and other kinds of abusers…

FlamingoQueen · 11/07/2025 06:58

I hope that the police lady is not on this site. Hey, you’re too small, if they sent a woman instead of a man, then that’s what’s going to happen!

And this is why we’re still stuck in the 1950’s and why (some) men think they are superior to us.

If I was in need of help, I wouldn’t care who they sent to help me, because I would assume that whoever came had received the same training, and may have different approaches to things, but it’s no different to a 5 ft guy turning up.

I hope that the Lydia is okay and can continue to serve and support her police force.

Key point “she was heavily pregnant!”

Never mind women aren’t cut out for the job, what’s the scum going to get sentenced to?! Bugger all I expect.

That's even worse (in my book.) He could have attacked her in a way that meant she lost her baby. I wasn't allowed to do an awful lot of my job towards the end of my pregnancy (wasn't even allowed on the step stools in case I fell off) because of the risks. It was okay at the beginning but not as I got bigger.

Raise your hands if you don't think you'd cry after having your nose broken? I know I would.

ladywindemeresbucket · 11/07/2025 07:29

I was never happy when they removed the height requirements for the police force.

My best friend at school joined the police. She was 5'10" and built like a brick outhouse but was invalided out when a crim kicked her leg and damaged her knee.

Evaka · 11/07/2025 07:30

Ridiculous post. She wasn't there alone ffs.

She is heavily pregnant. Not was. The incident was a year ago.

The 1960s called they want you back.

Id love to hear one of the cops on my shift refuse a call because shes just a little ickle lady.

There are thousands of female officers daily handling violent incidents brilliantly and very capably regardless of their size. Writing them off because of one incident is ridiculous

Agree. My mother was a police officer in the 60’s though. She once shinned up a drainpipe and chased a thief across a roof, tackled him and brought him down. The story made the papers. Point being, that women are just as brave and capable as men, and always have been. When allowed.
Crying when punched in the face does not negate this.

DiggingHoles · 11/07/2025 07:41

Good grief! The blatant misogyny of the OP is astounding. It's 2025 FFS! Are we still expecting women to be emotionless robots before we consider them suitable for their paid jobs?

What if a woman cries while cooking for her family at home? Would that make her an unsuitable SAHM? No, because we are very selective where we allow women to be sad. Crying while cooking and cleaning? Perfectly fine. Crying while working a paid job? Well, she should not have taken a "man's job."

Enough with this BS!

notacooldad · 11/07/2025 07:43

To think many women aren't suited to all police situations
With my ongoing repeated expierence with police in some cases neither some men or women are suitable for the role , especially when dealing with very vulnerable children.

HotAndSweatyButNotBetty · 11/07/2025 07:43

What a great thread to join and campaign for women to be removed from the police or sidelined into roles they deem suitable.

Some officers are great at hand to hand combat or analytical thinking or driving or planning or communicating or in public relations or legal work or documentation or looking at details. They are not all in their best role, but many criminals don't adopt specific roles to match the skillset either.

So we send sexist poor communicating louts to disturbances with vulnerable women and a slight woman to a violent scene.

Often you don't know the skill set needed. Let's celebrate the fact that somebody is willing to go to scenes which may be dangerous and do their best to descalate it. Let's mourn the fact that the courts and the public often fail to support them. Its tragic if their colleagues don't support them either, so if you are a serving officer on this thread, shame on you.

YourUglySister · 11/07/2025 07:44

It’s horses for courses. Personally I’d rather have a female officer as a first responder to my sexual assault or domestic violence complaint than a 6ft hard as nails ex squaddie type but with cuts as they are, all officers have to be all things and cover all incidents until the specialist teams can get there so you just get who you get on the day.

runningpram · 11/07/2025 08:08

She is a brave woman who went full in to protect her colleague and is probably on around £30k. It is so depressing that instead of celebrating that people like that are ready to protect society l, we are condemning an assault victim.
This must have been incredibly traumatic - assaulted, accused of being racist and not being able to defend yourself, pictures of you at your most vulnerable all over the press and now people saying she is shit at her job.
Actually female officers are probably oftenincredibly useful in these kinds of situations - they are able to take the heat out of things.

Namechangerage · 11/07/2025 06:40

We don't have the luxury of handpicking who goes to calls. Mainly because were lucky to have a car available to go and 2ndly since the centralisation of our control rooms we dont know the cops any more so I have no idea what height build or size an officer is. What i do know is that aside they've all been trained to the same level and will go where needed

Bruisername · 11/07/2025 08:16

Just read today about a female officer who spotted and restrained a knife man and has been nominated for a bravery award

the knife man in the shopping centre in Australia was stopped by a female officer

the incident at Manchester airport was unusual in the level of violence and both male and female officers were badly hurt. If the video had been of a male officer would you be saying he shouldn’t be in the job?

the situation was crazy - the male officer was accused of punching the mum because he lost control when she was attacking him!
