In the country that's stretched to its limits, today it was announced that Keir has agreed with Mr Macron that just 50 illegal migrants per week will be sent away.

I know so many people are totally fed up with the state of the country.

Will there be protests?

Who knows? But let’s be honest, they’ll deal with it a lot better than Labour. What have Labour done to stem it? There’s been more incoming this year so far than the same time in previous years, so what are they doing?

They won’t. They won’t deal with anything better. Lazy, lying, sexist, racist grifters.

OK, one thing at a time.

How do you propose defining the ‘excess wealth’? How do you then propose ‘taking it back’?

Let’s start there.

If you aren’t trying to be clever, it’s pretty obvious the super rich have, at an accelerating rate, sucked up more and more assets. What do you think will happen? How does a government, or a private individual, compete with that?
the actual levels need working out, but something has to be done.

You have made a couple of pretty strong statements.

I am asking a simple question - I am not seeking your justification for what you said, I am asking for clarity on what you actually meant, and how you believe your proposal could be enacted. You had thought about that before you posted, right?

Tax. The. Assets. Of. The. Super. Rich.
Not the income of the well paid (or at least don5 increase that).
There are people hoarding wealth. A tax on anything over, say, £10 million would be fair, no?

So, a wealth tax?

If so, you do realise that wealth taxes have been shown to not work, and have been abandoned in the majority of developed countries that tried them. Even Starmer and Reynolds have ruled them out.

”Hoarding wealth” - not that hoary old phrase again… Why no mention of those that have “created wealth”?

I doubt you have a clear definition of "illegal migrant", but costs for housing asylum seekers are down rather than up. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cgeqwv98d55o

That’s a lie. If you are going to post a link, at least read it. Costs for housing asylum seekers are not down. Cost for housing in hotels is down. They are being housed in private accommodation instead, outbidding locals on rentals.

The people creating wealth are the working class.
Of course taxing wealth will work. It just needs the right approach.
What else do you suggest when all the country’s money is being concentrated in a few hands?
I couldn’t be an apologist for billionaires, but you do you I guess.

Goldenbear · 03/08/2025 20:13

Well for a start you could harmonise exit taxes with Europe, with Europe leading the way with a tax on the wealthy.

Finally. Some facts.

Serco, Mears and Clearsprings have done very well out of their deal with the 2019 government contracts.

I struggle to take you seriously, as you evidently lack an appropriate background in finance/economics.

I wish you luck.

Who’s running the private rentals?

DuncinToffee · 03/08/2025 20:51

Who’s running the private rentals?

Those 3 mentioned act as intermediaries, leasing properties from private landlords and managing the accommodation for asylum seekers while their claims are being processed.

So it’s costly then, under Labour.

Did you miss that their contracts started in 2019?

Costly yes, how do you suggest Labour can reduce the costs?

Higher crossings will be costing more won’t they?

They might want to work on that as they stated pre GE, something about smashing the gangs.

We have to house them, so where do you suggest they live if not in hotels or private rentals?

Sorry but numbers higher in 2022/23....

Not that is something to crow about but how would you stem x ch migration??

...apart from pp wish that the UK sends migrants to a mythical Island in the Pacific that we have an agreement with to do so....

If it weren't such a serious issue, it would be the stuff of comedy....

What was your answer to increasing inequality and wealth being hoarded again?

I don’t accept the premise of the question in the first place.

’Hoarding wealth’.

Remove that and I am happy to answer.

Tomorrow, as I am turning in now.

Night night.

Wealth is being concentrated 8n fewer and fewer hands.
It means there’s less of it for governments and ordinary people.
What’s your answer?

DuncinToffee · 03/08/2025 21:32

Translation, I haven't got a clue.

Funny how those demanding answers are so good at dodging questions.

Cool and rainy really put people off.

Yes, never any answers, just lots of repetitive questions.
