In the country that's stretched to its limits, today it was announced that Keir has agreed with Mr Macron that just 50 illegal migrants per week will be sent away.

I know so many people are totally fed up with the state of the country.

Will there be protests?

If the numbers go down so do the costs. A child of ten could work that one out.

Well Blossomtoes do tell me…why does it not mention costs then? God you are patronising (and rude)

Agree.

Agree.

Of course you do. Nobody would expect anything else. 🙄

The numbers are up. A child of ten knows that.

They’re your posts doing that, you just don’t like hearing it 🤷‍♀️

Seconded.

Not according to the Migratory Observatory - the source of choice that was requested.

Seconded.

Didn’t you just tell someone to grow up? Pot meet kettle.

DuncinToffee · 03/08/2025 11:46

What is rude is to demand facts and figures without providing any yourself

EasternStandard · 03/08/2025 11:46

MyNameIsX · 03/08/2025 11:42

Seconded.

It never goes anywhere. But @Julen7was correct.

On the accommodation crossings are up so they must be somewhere, hotel or private rental.

MyNameIsX · 03/08/2025 11:47

@Blossomtoes

Blossom, I’m curious - indulge me. You know my story, but we know so little about you. Why the axe to grind? What happened? Can you share?

I am being quite serious.

We still might not agree, but at least we might glean some insight into why that’s the case. You see, from my perspective, you are married to your cause, despite significant data, news flow, events - that all indicate yours is a sinking ship.

I know that you don’t suffer fools either.

All the more reason to fix the asylum system.

I am sure you are not advocating for camps.

Goldenbear · 03/08/2025 11:52

MyNameIsX · 03/08/2025 11:35

Right.

There are fires seemingly burning everywhere, with Labour in government, but not in power.

So profound...

Whatever her story she is (as she accuses me) totally entrenched in her views that’s for sure

I’ve already posted on that below. The system is chaotic, dangerous and rewards crime with vast profits.

I think it’s madness people argue for keeping it.

Nobody is arguing for keeping it though

We all want to stop the dangerous boat crossings and use of hotels, just for different reasons it seems.

Why does my “story” matter to you or is of any significance? It might help you to know that I’m the great, great grandaughter of Irish immigrants, one of whom ended up in a Victorian workhouse. I’m the grandaughter of a Durham miner. My paternal grandmother was a passionate socialist who hated injustice and fought it all her life, despite not getting the vote until she was 30. Does that help? Probably not.

FatherFrosty · 03/08/2025 10:39

the answer is to throw money at the problem.
speed up the asylum seeker application process, so they are deported or working. Not hanging about in limbo in hotels. It’s no good for anyone.

for what it’s worth Labour have a better handle on this situation than conservatives have. They’ve deported more in comparable time periods, and have reduced hotel use.

What's happened to all the court cases and mass protests attended by Labour MPs then? It's almost like it wasn't genuinely held convictions after all and just cynical politicking instead.

Not according to the Migratory Observatory - the source of choice that was requested.

Then you cannot read a source.

Illegal migration numbers are up and therefore so is spending on housing these people. Like you say, a child of 10 know that more people mean more housing required.

I can read the first sentence that says net migration has halved. Half means fewer in my world.

Livelovebehappy · 03/08/2025 16:29

Ironically, the same people who are happy with our immigration policy (if there is one. If there is, it’s well hidden) will be so surprised when at the next general election Reform get a lot of votes. Which will be due to people shutting down discussion on how it needs to be dealt with.

And how will Reform deal with immigration?
