To wonder if there'll be a revolt?

In the country that's stretched to its limits, today it was announced that Keir has agreed with Mr Macron that just 50 illegal migrants per week will be sent away.

I know so many people are totally fed up with the state of the country.

Will there be protests?

There will never be a revolt in the UK. We’re a nation of cap doffers and boot lickers.

I think there should have been a public revolt against lockdown by about April 2020, once it became clear that things were nowhere near as bad as the government was telling us.

But no, people pleaded for more restrictions, and believed everything from the mouth of Satan Saint Boris, that he had their best interests at heart, that it was all for their own good; just like so many people believe every word spoken by the Devil who answers to the name of Farage.

We’re not good at openly revolting against the establishment.

Yawn

I'm the only black girl in the village. We don't want them in our community either. These men are nothing like my grandparents generation, who built this country. They are nothing like my 2nd gen West African friends, either.

They do not respect you. Many of them despise your way of life.

Middle class white English women are generally pretty clueless, you're sheltered and have no concept of tribalism. These men are DANGEROUS. Most will disappear underground, join drug cartels, traffick, and form exploitative 'relationships' with local vulnerable women.

These men cannot be assimilated. Even the 'young' ones are already steeped in the culture of their fathers. They are also usually very low IQ, and unskilled, so we really don't need them from a logistic point of view.

In Africa they have a name for what you are doing - suicidal empathy. It is a curiously white/Caucasian phenomenon. No other culture does this.

Lucky for me I have my beautiful 🇦🇬 to escape to These men will not be a boon to British society, as your daughters will soon discover.

What a repulsive and dehumanising post. Imagine dismissing people as savages, especially those seeking refuge. I don't think I've ever read anything quite as repulsive and think you should feel utterly ashamed.

unsurewhattodoaboutit · 11/07/2025 03:45

It’s not immigrants that make me revolt it’s rich Tory or Reform wankers. Any immigrants I’ve ever met have been appreciative and polite.

‘Smash the gangs’ was never going to work. For every gang ‘smashed’, another gang will take their place. It’s lucrative business for the criminals, so you’re going to get a queue of people eagerly waiting their turn. Just an idea put out there by Starmer to make us think he’s doing something, when the reality is he really doesn’t give a toss about immigration.

Stop the Boats?

That worked well.

Starmer cares very much about immigration, thats why its fallen from 1 million to 500k this year.

I'm actually willing to give it a chance but worry about legal challenges from those due to be sent back to France. Will the one out be on the plane before we take one in?

Good.

But of course the plan has to be approved by the EU first, which may mean it goes no where.

I think its quite an achievement by Labour.

What are you talking about, honestly.

Starmer was only in power for 6 months of last year, and he would not have had any immediate impact.

Thelostjewels · 11/07/2025 07:09

I think starmer is drumming up legal trade for his old colleagues .

angelos02 · 11/07/2025 07:10

It won't work - Human rights lawyers will put a stop to it. Also it isn't 1 in 1 out. At best it will be 17 in, 1 out.

Thelostjewels · 11/07/2025 07:10

Oh yes ,approved by the EU ,well that will take years before they manage to agree to anything

I agree with you.

The are enough human rights lawyers ready to kibosh it, the EU will not ratify, and Macron is a duplicitous little shit.

I worked with the French for six years - they are masters at passive aggression. So, it will not get executed at an operational level in any event.

I feel it needs to be sorted somehow. As a country, our resources aren't infinite.

I obviously don't think a revolt is the answer, but the government aren't making necessary decisions.

Edited

But our resources of young working people are not infinite either and which we need to support an aging population. Where do we get them from? This is the bit I can never grasp. International student numbers are significantly down now so it’s not as if we are attracting skilled or educated migrants. I don’t particularly want to be old with nobody to look after me. This is happening already. I’m not saying we should just let in load in this uncontrolled manner but I do think we need some immigration.

Then how come he gets the blame for all that goes wrong if he has only been in power for such a short time?

Or is it more a case that:

"Bad stuff = Labour to blame"
"Good stuff = Tories get the credit"?

Highest number of crossings was in 2022, yet little concern.....

Rwanda didn't even happen, cost 1 billion? yet it is now portrayed as one of the Tories most successful policies, scrapped by Starmer.

Yes, this is not unique to the UK, of course. Look at Japan, Italy and elsewhere.

Improving medical tech and robotics will probably reduce some of the need for people.

Stop it.

There is no question the Tories share the blame - I am one of their biggest critics, but Labour are in power now, and they were elected in part, but promising to ‘smash the gangs’. This is theirs to own now.

And when the one in/out fails - and it will - Starmer cannot blame the Tories for it.

Its called ownership, and its what we teach our children, right?

Labour are in power now but they are not responsible in anyway for the disasterous last 14 years, which has left our country in an awful state.

Its simply unfair to heap blame upon blame for Starmer after just 1 year.

You say "share the blame" Labour aren't to blame for any of it!!!

You think this latest plan will fail, assuming its agreed at the EU level, why? how do you know?
Its a pilot scheme, if successful, the numbers returned will increase dramatically.

I don't know, none of us do, who knows how migrants will react? but if migrants start to be returned to France, then its reasonable to expect others not to be willing to hand over $5000 to a trafficker.

But yes if it fails, it will be Starmers to own but you aren't even willing to give it a chance.....

As was the case in the Med when migrants were returned to Tunisia etc, nmbers arriving in Italy halved.

Thelostjewels · 11/07/2025 07:34

Alexandra and my X I think what it tells us is that it's not an easy problem to solve and I think we need to look at our own laws because that's what seems to be strangling us.

If the appetite of the people is to stop this madness now that is what they need to get working on but with an ex human rights lawyer at the helm I can't see it.

Agree legal migration drop is not due to Labour policy yet.

Smash the gangs has been a failing.

Whether the EU approves this latest we’ll see. The pilot will be messy but I assume when the pp says this will work well they mean after that, if it gets through the pilot.

Thelostjewels · 11/07/2025 07:40

Alexandra ,global credit crisis ,coalition , Brexit , endless elections, nonsensical wishy washy nonsense from remain Tories ,the speaker of the house nonsense , finally get a Brexiteer in and then straight away we are hit by COVID.

A global pandemic.
Then just as we are in recovery for that , we are hit by the Ukraine war and insane energy prices.

It's been awful but because of external circumstances and endless Tory in fighting.
Now we have the most miserable doom laden government ever who don't represent our interests at all.

Thelostjewels · 11/07/2025 07:41

We will be waiting a long time for that eastern.

BIossomtoes · 11/07/2025 07:48

And this is exactly why the whole system is a complete joke. Of course they're going to ' risk their lives' making the crossing when they know the UK is the soft touch, bleeding heart liberal nation, and will readily accept them and allow them to bring the entire family across once processed! We're effectively not accepting just one asylum seeker, but 10 of their relatives. Times that by 10,000 that's an awful lot of people added to this groaning tiny island.Trust me, if you're genuinely fleeing for your life from persecution you will be thanking your lucky stars you made it to safe ground, even if it's just a tent in an encampment and not be cooking up a scheme to climb into a rubber dingy. It's purely economic migration.

Most asylum seekers don’t go to Europe and if they do they don’t go to the UK. But for those that do are driven sometimes by the hopelessness of living in sprawling refugee camps with few opportunities to change your situation but also driven by the risk being sent home from there like we’re seeing in Iran. I think it is human nature to try and improve your life situation and if you saw some of the conditions of camps in the Global South, you would understand why people leave. Funding those camps would make a difference.

The UK doesn’t have a high proportional rate of asylum seekers compared to other European countries.

Rules around family reunification are similar in the UK as they are elsewhere in Europe.

And yes people risk their lives. I’m not sure why you have it in apostrophes.

You’re making a lot of assumptions that aren’t based on any facts at all.

’Its a pilot scheme’ - enough said.

Of course Labour share the blame, they were in opposition for 14 years! They voted for/against legislation.

If you trust the French/EU, bon chance.

It may have escaped your notice but the last Tory government had an 80 seat majority, its legislation was always going to succeed.

How about you respond to the prospects for success of the Starmer-Macron deal.

We are all ears.
