Aware of Head Teacher and Teacher affair

Name changed for this. I’ve become aware that the HT of my DC’s primary school is having an affair with one of the teachers. Both are married.

Would you do anything with this information? It feels utterly morally bankrupt that the HT is abusing his position like this, and I feel so sorry for the partners involved.

OP posts:

The OP doesn’t say ‘I think’. She says she’s ‘become aware’. And you do not know any of the details in her becoming aware. Please stop pretending you do.

Luckily OP can do what she wants here, so nothing you post can prevent that.

She said 'historic suspicions' + 'been seen at a hotel' so it is just a thought. As suspicions are just what you think along with the shocking hotel incident is her 'becoming aware'.

So suspicions and seeing two people at a hotel is 'becoming aware' of nothing.

Oh she can report which I hope she does and she gets her arse handed to her on a plate. Absolutely piss funny. I'd actually love to see that happen and the new arsehole that she gets as a result!

I hope the teachers then report her for harassment which nothing you say can stop them doing so and said parent will then at least be banned from the school.

Some allegations are true when first brought up with this type of information (again, you don’t know the details, nor how valid they are, so stop pretending you do), others are not. You ultimately do not know if it’s true or not.

They are not allegations they are suspicions which are thoughts.

You don't and yet you want someone reporting for socialising which nothing will be investigated.

Do you report teachers at your kids school for going to Tesco or getting their car washed?

This is on a par with that - reporting teachers for being human and doing normal human things like visiting a building.

You can't sack a teacher for going to a hotel or that would be all teachers in the UK out of a job.

converseandjeans · 09/07/2025 06:52

What outcome would you like?

Someone might have a feeling/thought about you and report you with no reason, evidence or anything else. Just because they want to and that is perfectly fine to report a parent just because.

You might find you lose your kids if you go away this summer as visiting a hotel is a huge crime and punishable with removal of children.

Because you going to a hotel in the summer means someone can report you to the police.

Suspicions based on information. You do not know the details of that information.

I don’t ’want someone reported’. I have consistently said I think anyone with serious concerns should feel able to report through the correct channels. Nor have I claimed to know the details.

Washing cars at Tesco isn’t relevant. I didn’t say you could sack a teacher for going to a hotel. Nor did the OP.

Completely depends what their suspicions were based on, and be assessed by the right people.

It is the supervisory professional power one partner holds over the other that is the problem. Part of this is that the HT is expected to be the neutral referee in disputes between teachers or a teacher and a parent, etc.

No one will get a fair hearing in a dispute with this teacher unless the Governors replace the HT in this role. But that amounts to making the affair public.

Yes it is so wtf that some don't see these very basic issues.

Also funny, though not surprising, that some teachers don't think their school have a code of conduct 🙄.

There is no information if there was it wouldn't be a suspicion!

The school will not investigate two members of staff at a hotel.

Washing cars and Tesco are relevant because if you report someone for being at a hotel it is on a par with reporting someone for being in Tesco or seeing them at the carwash.

There is no difference between seeing someone at a hotel and at a Tesco.

You can't investigate a teacher for being at a hotel. It just will not happen.

Gloriia · 09/07/2025 08:36

'You might find you lose your kids if you go away this summer as visiting a hotel is a huge crime and punishable with removal of children.'

How do you seriously come up with such utterly irrelevant comparisons?!

The suspicions are nothing just that they think it.

There would be no assessment as there is nothing to assess.

Just like there is no assessment of someone at a hotel as there is nothing to assess.

Because reporting someone for being at a venue will not result in any investigation which a teacher could be suspended for.

They want someone investigated for doing a normal everyday thing.

This person thinks it will happen but it will not.

So if that is the case then a teacher can report her at a venue with her kids with no other information which she could have her kids removed.

Same thing - reporting a non event.

Both are the same - going to a hotel - apparently it is an issue worthy of investigation if you are a teacher so surely it is if you are a parent. Same applies.

There really isn't. You are walking into a building and seeing someone.

What is the difference?

Tesco has a little clock tower and the hotel doesnt?

You do not know this as you’re not one of the governors being given the details.

You used the words - assess them. So same thing. It is a synonym.

You said the governors can then assess them. Nope they will not.

The OP has said she had a thought about them and then hasn't seen them at the hotel but someone has. That is the information.

If they were seen doing something she would say - they were seen necking at the hotel or she was seen on her knees at the hotel. She said they were seen at a hotel.

Being seen doesn't warrant a report or an 'assessing'. What it does warrant is a report of harassment.

Fetaface · 09/07/2025 08:46

Didimum · 09/07/2025 08:41

I am a governor. This would not get assessed nor investigated.

Reporting Mrs X and Mr Y possibly at a hotel. I would laugh at a report like that.

If someone said Fetaface Mrs X and Mr Y were maybe seen at a hotel. I would say....and what??

They would then likely say but they have been seen.

And? There is nothing to investigate.

They were there or they weren't. Nothing to investigate.

Be careful what you wish for. I know of a school that had a fab HT, who was doing similar. He was removed, but replacement HT nowhere near as good. If the school is reasonable and your kids doing OK you might want to leave it be.

Surely there's a happy medium, a HT who is isnt shagging their juniors and is good at their job.

Gloriia · 09/07/2025 08:58

'I am a governor. This would not get assessed nor investigated'

Well maybe some governors have slacker standards but we've had many posters say issues like this have been investigated at their schools and staff have been sacked. Not every governing body will sit on their hands only discussing the Christmas tombola saying la la la when concerns are raised about Head teachers.

But what is there to investigate from a report of staff at a hotel?

They were there or not? What needs investigating about that event? Nothing.

Would you like me to investigate what car they drove there? How long they were there? What kind of payment they made?

What? It isn't being slack saying that there is no investigation when someone says please investigate two teachers at a hotel.

For what crime? Tell me what it should be an investigation about....being at a hotel is not investigation worthy.

As I said, may as well report them being at Tescos and I can investigate what brand of cereal they buy or if they bought a 9 pack of bog roll or a 24 pack.

There has to be a focus for an investigation. There isn't a focus.

Maybe we should investigate why parents are at the park at a weekend. Ludicrous.

Well, as a pp has very patiently explained to you repeatedly we don't know what the op knows. They only posted twice. So they should present their concerns and let the governing body <who I hope are more proactive than yours> investigate and take action.

It isn't the same as chatting to Shirley from the office in the aisle at Tesco, you know that and we know that. Why are you so furious at a parent having great concerns about their HT's ability to do their job effectively as they are allegedly making such great errors in judgement?
