Yes I know it’s a huge deal and what happened was awful but ffs it’s on the news everytime I turn it on. Yes it was absolutely big news at the time but do we really need to keep hearing about it daily for so long? It only affects those involved, surely? Just give us an update when the inquiry is finished!

Turn off the internet. Avoid the articles.

But please, please don't ever belittle the experiences of others who were victimised systematically by an institution who should have supported them and owned up to their mistakes.

namechangeGOT · 08/07/2025 12:00

People went to prison or received criminal records for crimes they did not commit, people killed themselves because it did so much damage to theirs and their families lives and livelihoods and they are still awaiting the compensation that could help them to rebuild the damage caused. Sorry you find it boring, but, oh well.

It wasn't big news at the time. It was hidden and covered up and ignored. We've not been hearing about it daily. The first report fro the inquiry has just been published.

Missey85 · 08/07/2025 12:04

What a horrible thing to say! What was done to those people and the way they were blamed for it all people killed themselves over it because they'd been gaslit into thinking it was there fault! 😡

JudgeBread · 08/07/2025 12:06

You choose what you consume. Turn it off if you don't want to hear about it. The universe doesn't revolve around you and your personal tastes, I'm sure the people whose family members killed themselves over it are glad it's still in the news.

It's a huge miscarriage of justice and as nothing has really been solved and many victims haven't received compensation I think you need to be prepared to keep hearing about it.

I'm sure those who were wrongly accused aren't sick of hearing about it and I feel for them deeply, but I'm also quite concerned that some who really were stealing will never be challenged because of the broad-brush "amnesty"

Ditto those in my local place within a Premier Supermarket, where very little is put through the till, countless parcels mysteriously "disappear" and - knowing they're practically untouchable - they run the place mainly as a drug shop

It wouldn't be so bad except they're not even discreet about it and there are folk walking out pocketing wraps of this and that at all times of day Hmm

PutThe · 08/07/2025 12:13

Fucking hell.

BitOutOfPractice · 08/07/2025 12:13

Well it’s in the news today because of the report. It was in the news a lot last year after the tv show. But hearing about it daily? Yiu haven’t been.

People's lives were destroyed because those in power would not listen to them.

TrickorTreacle · 08/07/2025 12:15

Wow, just wow, OP

AMurderofMurderingCrows · 08/07/2025 12:16

It should be talked about all day every day for the next 100 years.

Absolutely disgusting what happened to those people.

However, if this is rage bait, 10/10 for effort because I'm enraged!!

Nevertrustacop · 08/07/2025 12:19

One young man pleaded guilty to all crimes because the family knew his elderly mother who was actually the one one making the 'errors' would not be able to manage prison time. So he went instead.

AgnesX · 08/07/2025 12:23

They need to keep on going on about it until everyone involved is paid back what they are owed - not just a percentage.

The guilty parties from the Royal mail execs to the complete shits at Fujitsu who allowed it to happen need to be properly held to account.

WiganWoman · 08/07/2025 12:24

men and women died because of ‘a computer system’.
Families ruined.
Massive criminality from the corporate side of things.
Biggest miscarriage of justice in the U.K.
Yet Government still dragging heels and not compensating those who have suffered.
And those who have suffered are in the hundreds if not thousands.

If you are attempting to goad with your shitey thread, you’ve got us going.
But many are not prepared to let this go.
Go and boil your head.

porridgecake · 08/07/2025 12:25

Wow. What if the next big scandal affects you OP? There are, and will be, plenty to choose from. If anything we need more publicity. I am still waiting to hear some progress on the £60 million PPI scandal. The postal votes cheating and the grooming gangs that the mayor of London is pretending isn't happening. The massive epidemic of money laundering and drug dealing in all our local high streets. The corruption in the planning and building industries - so many empty properties and land with planning permission not used so the price goes up. The fraud and embezzlement in the city. The corruption in the MET. The list is endless.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 08/07/2025 12:26

Wow! Caring much OP?! They need to keep highlighting because nothing ever happens in this country to right wrongs:
blood scandal
Grenfell
windrush
hillsborough

Tell that to those that lost family members because of it, or who were jailed because of it, that you are sick of hearing that they had such an awful time

Precisely.
There are two scandals here: (1) The original crime by management against post masters and (2) The length of time it is taking the establishment to right the wrongs.
This has been going on for nearly 30 years!

assertiveplant · 08/07/2025 12:29

Write to your MP to put pressure on them to sort it out then.

If it had been appropriately resolved it wouldn't need to be in the news.

People like you are why it took so long for this scandal to be recognised and for steps to start being taken to put it right.

A miscarriage of justice could happen to anyone, including you.
