Will this dress suit a plus size bridesmaid?

I’m getting married next summer. Hoping to have that eclectic look for my bridesmaids - different colours but all cohesive. I’ve chosen tones of pink as I think that is romantic.

Im buying the dresses. I have one bridesmaid who is plus size (12). She has an hour glass figure. Will this dress suit her in your opinion?

I know not everyone likes the material but I do, thanks in advance for your input

The fabric is going to cling to every lump. I think you’d need to be very slim and very toned. Might look nice standing still in the photo but moving around it could look bad. The colour is lovely but I’d go for something more floaty.

The dress looks not very forgiving on anyone over a size 8 I would say.

My friend has big bum, big booms and defined waist (I say this as a good thing)

That dress will not be flattering. It's an empire line Bias cut.
Ask your friend what she thinks of it. Why haven't you already done so?

Viviennemary · 08/07/2025 09:50

Shiny fabric is not meant to be flattering to larger sizes. But 12 isn't plus.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 08/07/2025 09:53

Are those dresses made with synthethic fabric? they will get really hot and sweaty if they are...

It also looks like something that would show sweat stains easily!! Not great.

The shape is nice imo. Will be really flattering for an hourglass. The fabric could show off every lump, bump, bra line etc. That's something you can usually fit with a slip, shapewear etc. But it really isn't particularly great in summer IMO.

But it looks amazing in the second photo. My friend is smaller than that model. Carries weight in an hour glass

If you are so sure, why even ask on here?

Iceandfire92 · 08/07/2025 10:03

Why not ask your bridesmaids to choose their own if you give them a budget? The dress is cheap-looking and will not flatter a size 12. I would feel self-conscious all day and wouldn't enjoy myself if I was forced to wear that. If they choose their own within a colour scheme, they will pick something they like that flatters them.

Keepingoin · 08/07/2025 10:06

OP you have to accept when you ask for opinions here the posters will generally give an honest opinion.

I'm sorry to say this time I definitely agree with the majority of posters. This is not a flattering look. Those I've seen in dresses like this look awful. Even if they are incredibly thin you can usually see their hip bones sticking out. Slinky nightdress springs to mind rather than stylish flattering bridesmaids dress.

Canshehavewaferthinham · 08/07/2025 10:12

I am a size 8 bottom size 12 top (huge shoulders 'cause I lift). It depends fully on her shape. But I have to say I don't think clingy satin flatters anyone-even if someone is very slim and toned, they'd still look better in something else.

ClairDeLaLune · 08/07/2025 10:15

Oh my God, 12 is not plus size. You are fat shaming your poor bridesmaid. I’m glad you’re not my friend. I hope to God you’re a troll, surely no-one in real life is this vacuous.

WitchOfSomorrostro · 08/07/2025 11:39

Depends where OP is from. Where I'm from size 12 is absolutely 100% plus size. Sizes 4-6 slim, 8-10 - medium, 12 - plus, 14/16 - fat, bigger than 16 - difficult to find altogether. Regardless of height. And no, it's not Japan/China.

But that dress is a no. Not because of the size, but it just looks cheap and nasty. It's creased to fuck even in promo photos/videos, so in reality, after a days festivities, it will look like a flammable 5quid nightie from aliexpress.

Size 12 isn't slim. That material is unflattering on most people OP. I wouldn't choose it.

depends how tall you are

if you're 5f1 then 12 isn't slim

if you are 5f11 then 12 is slim

What a ridiculous take. You can still be friends with someone and have other independent thoughts. They aren’t mutually exclusive. Would the same apply if you thought a friend was skinny?

Size 12 is not plus size. The OP clearly has a negative and warped opinion of her friend.
