Will this dress suit a plus size bridesmaid?

I’m getting married next summer. Hoping to have that eclectic look for my bridesmaids - different colours but all cohesive. I’ve chosen tones of pink as I think that is romantic.

Im buying the dresses. I have one bridesmaid who is plus size (12). She has an hour glass figure. Will this dress suit her in your opinion?

I know not everyone likes the material but I do, thanks in advance for your input

Your friend needs to run. Uninvite her and do her the favour of having to be friends with someone like you.

Morgenrot25 · 08/07/2025 08:13

Also, those dresses will be cheap for a reason.

Clearingaspace · 08/07/2025 08:13

Ask your friend if they are ok with it. As previous poster mentioned that is the whole point of an eclectic look for bridesmaids - they can wear a dress that suits them.

Blurrywateryeye · 08/07/2025 08:14

Nah, both ugly dresses. Looks cheap and material is too clingy.

They were not cheap originally. Recently on clearance sale. Good reviews

YABVU for calling a size 12 'plus size.' And of course this will suit a SLIM woman who is a size 12!

Size 12 isn't slim. That material is unflattering on most people OP. I wouldn't choose it.

ChocolateGanache · 08/07/2025 08:16

Size 12 is not plus size FFS

Genok · 08/07/2025 08:10

The model is a 14 according to the website :)

Still not ‘plus size’.

But it looks amazing in the second photo. My friend is smaller than that model. Carries weight in an hour glass

I assume OP means US 12, which is a UK 16?

Anyway, that dress would highlight a large belly and arms, a less shiny material would help.

Odd trolling attempt

Maybe 🤔

I acknowledge my mistake. I am sorry. It was a slip of my mind

Oh apologies. I don’t know why I thought it was. English is my 2nd language

If you were going by USA sizes…their size 12 is equivalent to uk size 16…hardly a plus size either.
Let’s see your figure?

That fabric and colour is unflattering on most people. I doubt any of your bridesmaids would like it. You cannot buy a dress for someone else to wear without them trying it on so suggest you buy them for all bridesmaids and ensure you have a return option.

CarrotVan · 08/07/2025 08:18

It looks like a different dress in the second picture. The waistline hits at a different point and the cut of the bodice is different

but shiny satin is very unforgiving on most people

Size 14 is considered plus size, when I was young most shops only ever went upto a size 16/18 then you had to go to places like Etam if you were bigger. Some clothing brands stop at size 14 now. Size 14 is not slim.

How on earth do you “accidentally” think UK size 12 is a plus size? Such a weird thread. Unless she’s 4foot tall, size 12 is a healthy size.

PersephoneSeethes · 08/07/2025 08:20

You really hate all your bridesmaids, don’t you, OP?

The reason it’s on sale is that it looks shit on everyone who isn’t super thin and toned, with zero cellulite.

IanStirlingrocks · 08/07/2025 08:20

Your bridesmaids are supposed to be the people closest to you. Why are you asking strangers on the internet rather than them?
Talk to them, they will have opinions on what suits them and what they feel comfortable in.

Are you using American sizing? UK size 12 is not plus size (quite slender in fact) unless the person is under 150cm tall. American size 12 is UK size 16 and although different brands vary in their sizing, according to statistics and the retail sector data, that is within normal sizing (and not plus size) in the UK too.

It's best to send your bridesmaids the photos and ask if they would like to wear the dresses. If you forward the pictures to them as photos on your phone, you will get quicker answers than waiting for Mumsnet. There's no point asking readers here as we aren't your bridesmaids, and they are the best judge of what they will look and feel good in.

The whole company had a sale (I saw myself).

English is my second language. Apologies

In what language or even universe is 12 plus sized?!

Regularmumandfriend · 08/07/2025 08:23

Hi OP
I would ask for this to be deleted as its triggering so many people. You won't get dress advice as the plus size comment is derailing everyone.

Sayshesheshe · 08/07/2025 08:23

I’m an hour glass size 12 and I’d hate that material as it shows every lump and bump
