Will this dress suit a plus size bridesmaid?

I’m getting married next summer. Hoping to have that eclectic look for my bridesmaids - different colours but all cohesive. I’ve chosen tones of pink as I think that is romantic.

Im buying the dresses. I have one bridesmaid who is plus size (12). She has an hour glass figure. Will this dress suit her in your opinion?

I know not everyone likes the material but I do, thanks in advance for your input

That material will show up cellulite and every lump, definitely not for anyone not slim.

Have you met this bridesmaid or do you plan recruiting her online? Surely you ask her?

This thread is ridiculous. Any of us could post any pictures and ask if it suits us.

notsochattysue · 08/07/2025 08:24

It’s annoying you think 12 is plus size. I bet she doesn’t know u think that!

Bboy1234 · 08/07/2025 08:26

Im plus size , it would be a cold day in hell before I would step out in public in that dress. I would honestly stand down as bridesmaid if it was expected of me.

The fabric, the colour, the fit are all so unflattering and it even looks a bit wrinkled on the models

I personally thought the dress is flattering and feminine

I think it's absolutely beautiful.

badwithnumbers · 08/07/2025 08:26

That material will be cheap and clingy. Don’t do it (for anyone!).

But it looks amazing in the second photo. My friend is smaller than that model. Carries weight in an hour glass

I don't think she does. If that was a photo of me I'd not be happy with it. That's the thing, adult bridesmaids should not be asked to wear a dress they dislike so really, regardless of what you ,I or any other person thinks, you need to ask the person who will be wearing it.

BeachPossum · 08/07/2025 08:27

Why not just ask your friend if she likes it? I certainly wouldn't highlight the fact that she's plus size (which a size 12 isn't tbh) but you could send her the link and see what she thinks.

I wouldn't mind that cut or colour but I do really hate that fabric. It clings everywhere, and it creases instantly. I don't think they'll look nice if the bridesmaids have to travel in them at all, and as soon as they sit down it will be game over.

Pottedpalm · 08/07/2025 08:28

Clingy satin is very difficult to wear. Any bumps, bulges and bones are highlighted. I have seen similar dresses on many sizes and they are universally unflattering.

Beeloux · 08/07/2025 08:28

I’m a 6-8 and dresses like the second one that synch in just under the boobs do nothing for me. If she’s an hourglass shape you want something that will be fitted at the waist. The first one should be fine.

TheFairPoet · 08/07/2025 08:28

It’s an ugly dress and if you think your friend is fat when she’s only a size 12 then you are not her friend.

Coffeeishot · 08/07/2025 08:29

Doidontimmm · 08/07/2025 08:05

A size 12 is not plus size?

This a 12 is average size, yes I think your dress will suit a 12.

Genok · 08/07/2025 08:29

The dress is not sticking to any “bumps” on the second model. I think she looks wonderful

My friend has big bum, big booms and defined waist (I say this as a good thing)

NB if the whole company is having a sale, beware and ask if they are closing down- if they are, you might not be able to get a refund if one or more dresses arrives in a damaged condition or doesn't fit your bridesmaid. It's best to choose the dresses at a shop where the bridesmaids can all try on the dresses before you pay.

I would just swap her for a thinner friend and buy the dresses

😂
You are very bold (naughty) @WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady !!!

Size 12 isn't slim. That material is unflattering on most people OP. I wouldn't choose it.

Size 12 absolutely is slim unless the woman is very short. If you think it isn’t, you have a warped sense of reality.

The average size of UK women is size 16.

whosaidtha · 08/07/2025 08:33

Just to say that a 12 can appear plus size depending on your height. I’m a size 12 and definitely fat/plus size because I’m only 5ft 1.
in any case these look like two different dresses. Dress one comes to the waist and dress two under the bust.
I wouldn’t be comfortable in this as I carry weight on my stomach. But if she is well proportioned/tall it would be fine. But as others have said ask her.

BriefHug · 08/07/2025 08:33

Are you doing that bridezilla thing of encasing your bridesmaids in shiny pink satin in order to make yourself look like a serene Cinderella attended by a pack of hefty creased sausages?

Blurrywateryeye · 08/07/2025 08:33

TheFairPoet · 08/07/2025 08:28

It’s an ugly dress and if you think your friend is fat when she’s only a size 12 then you are not her friend.

What a ridiculous take. You can still be friends with someone and have other independent thoughts. They aren’t mutually exclusive. Would the same apply if you thought a friend was skinny?

cunningartificer · 08/07/2025 08:33

Ignoring the weird plus size 12 debate for a moment… Satin is never flattering to anyone who is curvy unless it’s very expensive and beautifully cut and this dress doesn’t look as though that applies. If you’re using shades of pink and this bridesmaid’s larger than the others I’d let her wear the darkest pink as that’s generally more flattering.

PersephoneSeethes · 08/07/2025 08:34

Ok, after reverse image searching. The dress is fully lined and is available in up to size 22, so that at least indicates the designer is aware of the pitfalls of such material and cut.

Being size 20 and bing a bridesmaid several times, I know how this can feel - it can be really humiliating, so sorry if my previous post was a bit spicy.

OP, can you buy one to try and return it, so that your size 12 bridesmaid can see what it’s like?

SENNeeds2 · 08/07/2025 08:36

This style is hard for anyone to wear - you have to have a very portionate figure it hides zero flaws. infact I think it looks better on the plus size model than the thinner model. You can see the creases in the material in these promotional shots which is not a good sign.

TheNinthLock · 08/07/2025 08:37

English is my third language and I know 12 is not a 'plus size'. So that's a bit of a weak excuse.

The dress may look nice in the second picture OP, but the picture will have been airbrushed / touched up / altered digitally before going on the website so it is not necessarily an indication of how beautiful and well fitting the dress could be.

Ask your bridesmaid. She'll be the one wearing it :)

Westfacing · 08/07/2025 08:37

At my local Register Office I usually stop and have a quick gawp at the happy couple and guests posing for photos as they come out as I like looking at the outfits!

Recently there were two 30-something slim bridesmaids in cream dresses made from some sort of shiny satin - the material was so clingy you could see the outline of their thongs! You could see from the hair-dos, make up, other guests that this was an expensive day but those dresses were a let down, to me as a passing member of the public!

My friend is very proportionate. Think Nigella Lawson
