Will this dress suit a plus size bridesmaid?

I’m getting married next summer. Hoping to have that eclectic look for my bridesmaids - different colours but all cohesive. I’ve chosen tones of pink as I think that is romantic.

Im buying the dresses. I have one bridesmaid who is plus size (12). She has an hour glass figure. Will this dress suit her in your opinion?

I know not everyone likes the material but I do, thanks in advance for your input

Would your friend want to be your bridesmaid if she knew what you called her on the internet?

They were not cheap originally. Recently on clearance sale. Good reviews

OK, they are on clearance for a reason.

English is my second language. Apologies

Why write plus size? Second language English isn’t an excuse for such a statement.

Genok · 08/07/2025 08:29

The dress is not sticking to any “bumps” on the second model. I think she looks wonderful

Have you heard about Photoshop :)

Ok, after reverse image searching. The dress is fully lined and is available in up to size 22, so that at least indicates the designer is aware of the pitfalls of such material and cut.

Being size 20 and bing a bridesmaid several times, I know how this can feel - it can be really humiliating, so sorry if my previous post was a bit spicy.

OP, can you buy one to try and return it, so that your size 12 bridesmaid can see what it’s like?

I think your issue was calling a size 12 plus size rather than the dresses. Unusually reaction to have to a dress .

Size 12? How will this enormous woman get through the door?!

Itsjustmonkeyssingingsongsmate · 08/07/2025 08:40

I wore a size 12 wedding dress. I was 8 and a half stone at the point I married and am 5 ft 2. I was in no way plus size. I have a reasonable sized chest. You can't expect anyone to have a reasonable conversation with you if you're referring to a size 12 woman as 'plus sized'. Please don't make any suggestion to your friend that she's overweight if you still want a friend after your wedding.

PS I don't personally like the dresses on a size 12, a size 0 or a size 20 and I would say that to anyone who'd chosen them not just you because I think you're being ridiculous. It's your wedding though.

In what language is size 12 plus size?

Sassybooklover · 08/07/2025 08:41

A size 12 isn't 'plus sized'. However, it all depends on her shape. Hour glass suggests bigger hips/thighs/bust and small waist. The material is a satin type, and it will cling to every lump, bump and knicker line!!

Morgenrot25 · 08/07/2025 08:41

Blondebrownorred · 08/07/2025 08:15

Size 12 isn't slim. That material is unflattering on most people OP. I wouldn't choose it.

Size 12 might not be 'slim', but it's also not 'plus size', in the UK at least.
It depends why you are 12 in a dress - could be boobs, could be bum, could be hips, could be all of them!
A size 12 is a healthy size in the UK.

Hope you have already sent photos of the dresses to your bridesmaids, Genok. This is not a bouquet of flowers- you cannot surprise your bridesmaids with the dresses. They have to try them on before you buy, or at least see the photos for themselves first.

Lafufufu · 08/07/2025 08:42

The dresses are flammable cheap and horrible looking. It’s even crumpled in the advertising photos with the tanned women

you should also give your bridesmaids input not just present them with a dress

what’s your budget?

pinkdelight · 08/07/2025 08:42

That material is bad, sorry, and going to look cheap and crumpled on most women whatever size. The haven't even managed to get to the creases out for the promo pix.

Blondebrownorred · 08/07/2025 08:42

Samiloff · 08/07/2025 08:33

Size 12 absolutely is slim unless the woman is very short. If you think it isn’t, you have a warped sense of reality.

The average size of UK women is size 16.

Edited

Size 12 definitely is not slim regardless of how many other people are bigger. I agree size 12 isn't plus size but in no way is it slim.

Morgenrot25 · 08/07/2025 08:42

It is perhaps a plus size in American sizing, though they mostly speak English too (or Spanish).

PersephoneSeethes · 08/07/2025 08:42

Blurrywateryeye · 08/07/2025 08:39

Im deducing that the OP is Australian-Asian, and therefore size 12 would be plus sized for them.

Tantomile · 08/07/2025 08:43

You look at your size 12 friend...does she look plus size? Pink satin in a clearance sale - likely not to match the colour in photos and stick to every lump and bump.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 08/07/2025 08:43

Satin is not a flattering material on any size. It will show underwear lines and will cling.

pinkdelight · 08/07/2025 08:44

Morgenrot25 · 08/07/2025 08:38

OK, they are on clearance for a reason.

Exactly! Not the best place to go for a nice bridesmaid dress.

You're getting advice -

  1. 12 isn't plus size in the UK
  2. the dresses aren't actually that nice
  3. the bridesmaids need to have more input
Could you ask each of them to find something they like - shape wise, not necessarily colour wise, and then see if there is a common thread among them/something that could work together, and then see about whether they'd come in some nice pinks that flow together - darker pinks may also be more flattering and slightly more structured/better quality dresses. Good luck!

Genok · 08/07/2025 08:09

But I think the second model who is bigger than my friend looks stunning

That's edited and she'll be wearing spanx. The dress is incredibly clingy and a fabric and colour that will show bumps.
I don't really know many women that would be comfortable in a dress like that whether they are plus size or not.

Are you doing that bridezilla thing of encasing your bridesmaids in shiny pink satin in order to make yourself look like a serene Cinderella attended by a pack of hefty creased sausages?

😂
