Lily Allen ‘can’t remember’ how many abortions she’s had

Article in the Fail today about this.
I am pro choice but it did make me a bit uncomfortable. After a while a string of abortions - too many to remember - would surely leave its mark physically and emotionally not mention the cost on the NHS.
Everyone should have a choice but is there not an element of personal responsibility to just take precautions after the first few times?!

I stand by my original comment. Far more important things to discuss in the world than one person's abortion history. Her decisions do not impact you at all. And anyone making decisions about their healthcare based on what Lily Allen does or does not do has far bigger problems.

Are you for real? Who made you the arbiter of what is important enough to discuss by others?

Personally I think Mick Jagger and Ribert De Niro need sterilising.

Honestly, I don't care..Better than 5 unwanted babies.

This - all day, every day.

No, it's not. Please read my post without projecting things into it. I did not say "don't have an abortion", I said "don't have sex" (explicitly including men). That's a big difference.
When we have sex, we (men and women) take responsibility for a possible pregnancy. An abortion is not an alternative to contraception, considering the risks to the woman which are much lower or zero (eg in the case of condoms) if you use contraceptives.
Using abortion as an alternative to contraception is laziness, immaturity and ignorance on the part of both men and women (unless the woman is being forced into pregnancy, in which case it's the man's responsibility only).

It’s one of the Anti Choice narratives-that women use abortion as an alternative to contraception.

Why?
Don’t they look after and provide for their offspring?

HangingOver · 03/07/2025 09:35

If you're pro-choice but find this disgusting, can you lay out for me why? I'm not saying it's wrong or right I'm just interested. Is it just the use of resources (which tbf we don't know if she went private or not). Say she paid for it each time - since it's her that has to undergo the procedure - who is she harming other than herself?

You make it sound like she’s had dozens, she said it was ‘around 4 or 5 times’.

Wouldn’t having those babies have cost the NHS more?

4 or 5 is still quite a few babies.

TheSwarm · 03/07/2025 09:36

If you are truly pro-choice, then you support the right of a woman to make whatever choices she thinks are correct, even if anyone else disagrees with them.

Yes, it's not great to have abortion after abortion - although really, if they were early medical abortions it's not that much different or riskier to being on the pill - but it's her choice to do that and it's her choice to open up about it.

KateMiskin · 03/07/2025 09:37

KnittyNell · 03/07/2025 09:35

If you think having a baby at 81 is looking after and providing for them. I respectfully disagree. Providing isn't just about shelling out money.

Sprinklesandsprinkles · 03/07/2025 09:38

What are people here on this morning, she's discussed it with a national newspaper of course its ok (and surely expected) for people to be discussing it.

Surely once bitten twice shy, it seems mad and ridiculous to have let herself keep getting pregnant and surely it's bad for your body

CurlewKate · 03/07/2025 09:38

Lioncub2020 · 03/07/2025 09:36

4 or 5 is still quite a few babies.

Indeed. That’s why it’s good she had a choice.

HairsprayBabe · 03/07/2025 09:39

I don't understand why some posters are insistent on her feeling bad about her choices, angry at her for discussing it casually.

I've had two medical abortions - at different times in my life, under different circumstances, I've also had a miscarriage and I have two living children. I never give my abortions a second thought. It was healthcare I needed at the time and got. I certainly didn't have any mental trauma from them.

Not sure why so many women are instant on branding others with the scarlet letter and encouraging handwringing and misery.

Tell that to the many women on here who have unplanned pregnancies.

It’s one of the Anti Choice narratives-that women use abortion as an alternative to contraception.

Well, then what's the reason for having multiple abortions (unless you're coerced into pregnancy)?

The fact that it's an anti-choice narrative doesn't make anyone who says the same automatically anti-choice. However, I'm aware that there's an all-or-nothing attitude among many pro-choice posters on here who will struggle to accept this.

I also believe it's not helpful to say "she can does what she likes!" because maybe a woman who has had multiple abortions would appreciate help to avoid them in future.

How many is too many? Not your decision to make.

It’s deeply personal. She has every right to talk about it. You also have every right to talk about how uncomfortable it makes you feel.

How wonderful we get to live in a country that allows us choice and opinions when so many women don’t.

To add, I’ve had 2 abortions. One affected me greatly, the other not at all. I have no regrets about either though and would absolutely have another abortion if I found myself in a similar position again.

KateMiskin · 03/07/2025 09:43

sweetpickle2 · 03/07/2025 09:44

You're either pro choice, or you're not. Starting to pick apart exactly when it's 'okay' to make that choice and when it isn't is what so-called pro lifers use to bolster their pathetic arguments. YABU OP.

Says who? How did you come up with that arbitrary number, was there a scientific study? Grow up.

ClearFruit · 03/07/2025 09:45

Fucking appalling, but she doesn't have a history of particularly brilliant decision making does she? She was a cocaine user who hired female escorts for sex whilst on tour, when her Husband and children were at home.
