Labour really need to get a grip of things & fast. But I fear it’s too late & their reputation won’t recover from all these u turns.
I don’t know what the answer is but if something isn’t done the country will be bankrupt - we simply cannot continue as we are. The problem is that no one wants any changes that will negatively affect them. If they can’t cut welfare / anything to do with pensioners / healthcare / education and they can’t raise taxes then what on earth are they supposed to do??! I’m not defending any of them but seriously what is the answer? Scary times.

MrsKeats · 02/07/2025 13:38

Glad I am not alone. A forum for women this is supposed to be. It's lost its way over the last few years.

I don't want a male or female chancellor having a breakdown on the front bench thanks.

MrsKeats · 02/07/2025 13:40

So are you all happy with tax rises to pay for all this? Let's see an intelligent person's solution.

Extravirginolive · 02/07/2025 13:39

I don't want a male or female chancellor having a breakdown on the front bench thanks.

So give me what you do want? Reform I suspect.

Soulfulunfurling · 02/07/2025 13:41

The only question now is whether Starmer will survive this.

Extravirginolive · 02/07/2025 13:39

I don't want a male or female chancellor having a breakdown on the front bench thanks.

But you are OK not to see pensioners, small business owners, and welfare claimants suffer breakdowns, correct?

rainingsnoring · 02/07/2025 13:41

I think she will resign shortly but who will replace her? The Tories were detested and, predictably, it's happened to Labour too.
Whoever is in government in the UK holds a poisoned chalice.

AmateurDad · 02/07/2025 13:38

Why do you call him "Two Tier"?

Idiotic theory that there are two tiers of justice in the UK. As nicknames go, it's not one of the all-time greats.

littleblueenvelope · 02/07/2025 13:41

seriously, most people have their head in the sand if they don’t think this country needs to sort out the welfare system. I agree that PIP was the wrong area to focus on! However, the welfare state is ripe for people to take advantage of and they do!

ghostyslovesheets · 02/07/2025 13:42

northernballer · 02/07/2025 13:09

Presumably she didn't come up with these policies and announce them all on her own - the Cabinet must have backed them.

Nothing worse than a boss who throws his reports under the bus, I've lost respect for the lot of them tbh and I say that as a traditional Labour voter.

This! She’s been handed a pretty poisonous chalice- sort out the wreck of an economy left by the previous government BUT don’t raise tax!

She has a team of advisors and policy makers, ideas are run past cabinet for approval- she’s not acting alone. Now she’s taking all the blame - angry tears IMO and I bet, morally she wasn’t 100% on board.

Thatcher cried when she left number 10 - was she weak?

and I take heart in the rebellion by MPs - shows Labour MPs still stand with the most vulnerable in our country. Tory MPs would follow the party line despite the cost

EasternStandard · 02/07/2025 12:45

It’s not good

She needs to get a grip. I only just read this. But others have done worse and you don't see them crying. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence in her.

SummerFrog25 · 02/07/2025 13:43

Uricon2 · 02/07/2025 13:17

Well, Downing Street has said that RR has Starmer's "full backing" and is "going nowhere".

This usually means a resignation within 48 hours.

🤣🤣so true.

MyNameIsX · 02/07/2025 13:43

Soulfulunfurling · 02/07/2025 13:41

The only question now is whether Starmer will survive this.

The sooner Rayner is properly in play, the better.

She will crystallise this psychodrama quickly, and we can then properly plan for a post-socialist experiment (which clearly, does not work).

TwoFeralKids · 02/07/2025 13:43

Aww diddums to the private schools closing. We don't want to mix with the plebs do we?

Click on this link, and tell me she wasn't crying.

The Telegraph - Telegraph Online, Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph - Telegraph

gosh, that even melted my cold heart. I started off with zero sympathy, that is a woman trying to keep it together. She needs tea and a hug.

Sadly we are going to have to hit another credit crunch in order to make changes because the system is so entrenched and exposed via the open borders.

Honestly as the population is projected to be majority non English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh in a few decades I don't care to participate in this convulsion on behalf of the rest of the world that live here now, I'm off elsewhere for some peace and quiet.

It's just not worth it here anyway.

I thought it was because of the two tier levels for pip. Current claimants and new claimants. In any case it's been scrapped. Hey ho on to the next disaster.

Absolutely disgusting comments in this thread.

Just be because you don't like her politics.

A woman having a breakdown, and you lot are out for blood.

Whatever happened to 'be kind' ? . Nah, fuck that let's stick the boot in.

I don't like Reeves at all she is a Red Tory and I am opposed to her politics. Labour has lost my support.

But I agree with this. Watching her at PMQs basically having a breakdown in public was horrible. Starting a thread to put the boot in is just not on.

Bluebellwood129 · 02/07/2025 13:45

RR is more qualified than any previous chancellors with the exception of Sunak.

A basic degree in economics does not qualify someone to be chancellor. Reeves wilfully attempted to deceive the public regarding her experience and her lies were found out. Her career has been unremarkable and her woefully inadequate performance as chancellor has laid bare her lack of knowledge and capability, even when surrounded by a team of advisors.

MrsKeats · 02/07/2025 13:11

Reported. Obviously. As if private school pupils are a major priority for the government.

Harming private schools was a priority for this government. VAT on school fees was a flagship manifesto policy. She had openly said she wanted to ban all private schools and close them down, disrupting the lives of happy children. That is why lots of people are struggling to show sympathy for her. She hasn’t shown a shred of compassion for any of those negatively impacted by her policies; be that VAT, winter fuel allowance, farmers, small business owners etc. How many of those have been driven to tears, or worse?

I’ll reserve judgement as perhaps there is a personal matter, and I wouldn’t wish ill on anyone, although I assume that if it was a serious issue, she would have withdrawn from PMQs today. In the meantime, I’m struggling to find sympathy for someone who has relished in harming the lives of others. I understand that tough economic decisions are necessary, but if she had shown a shred of sympathy for those affected by her policies perhaps I’d feel differently.

alexalisten · 02/07/2025 13:46

Jellycatspyjamas · 02/07/2025 13:39

Well that’s going to go well.

They should let me run it since only 4% of spending is on disability benefit the first thing I would do was look into where the other 96% is being spent and find a solution that doesnt make people homeless and cause premature deaths. One of the main things I would look at it why the nhs pisses away so much money and is yet still failing. I would look at the level of illegal immigrants coming in by boats everyday. I would look at the misspending of government, I would look into politicians wages and their personal expenses. The reason governments go after the vulnerable is because it distracts everyone from what they are doing

littleblueenvelope · 02/07/2025 13:46

Sadly, the majority of people calling for head’s to roll are the little Britain Brexit brigade. The fact the majority of Labour politicians disagreed with welfare cuts, suggest that Labour is still your best Allie if you’re worried about PIP payments.
If that fuck wit Farage gets into power, we will be on a the same downward trajectory as the US! Be very careful what you wish for!
