I think I would keel over first and get carted out before I’d let the tears out in front of people at work

Edited

Ok. I get your sentiment but how? How do you stop the tears just escaping?

i can't stop them & I HATE it!!

Feel for her? Seriously?! The misery that that woman and the rest of her cronies have inflicted on many, many people, she and the whole lot of that rotten party should all be out of a job. Sooner the next GE comes around the better. And no I'm not going to vote Tory next time as they are responsible for letting this insane lot get into power in the first place. Not so smug now is she. Hopefully Jess Philips will be next, awful woman! Closely followed by Two Tier Keir!!

Well you’re a pleasure. Not only did the Tories “let” this lot get into power, they’re wholly responsible for the state the countries finances are in. I don’t know anyone who thinks the welfare bill doesn’t need to be addressed, and anyone trying to make changes is going to come under fire - probably the reason the Tories left it. Reform aren’t going to ease the misery of people reliant on state support either.

nomoreredtape · 02/07/2025 12:52

Yes, definitely crying. I just searched PMQs, Rachel Reeves crying’ on YouTube and it popped up.

Being in a very male dominated field, it’s about the worst thing a woman can do at work.

sonoonetoldyoulifewasgonnabethisway · 02/07/2025 12:52

She's just the frontman for the Starmer show

Brefugee · 02/07/2025 12:54

if you look at video clips, you can see the tear trickle out.

As for pp asking how to stop it, practice. It is hard (I'm an awful cry-at-the-drop-of-a-hatter) you have to make your mind go elsewhere.

I feel as unmoved by this as i feel about Thatcher crying in the car taking her from Number 10. Not as triumphant this time, but absolutely unmoved.

greencartbluecart · 02/07/2025 12:55

And?

why is it a big deal
stressful job trying to fix a dire situation with a load of hate thrown her way every day ?

Her mh is likely in pieces. She’ll be too stressed to
function.

Jellycatspyjamas · 02/07/2025 12:55

e.g. taking away the winter fuel allowance - first announcement for the new government - saved a pittance and was terrible optics impacting on those just above pension credit - they could easily taken it away from higher rate taxpayers - much more acceptable

You realise higher rate tax payers means anyone earning above £43k in Scotland - hardly earning a huge salary.

WhereIsMyJumper · 02/07/2025 12:55

MintTwirl · 02/07/2025 12:50

I bet reform are rubbing their hands in glee. They are being handed the country on a plate.

Yep!
Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t wish ill on any human being really but you can’t cry on a public platform when you’re a politician. We need to know these people are in charge and have control over stuff. Labour Party are very much not. And nobody has forgotten how shit the Tories were, either.

SwearyYellowStartish · 02/07/2025 12:55

MarxistMags · 02/07/2025 12:51

I think there should be a vote of no confidence against the PM.

I agree. It will demonstrate he has a huge majority of MPs that are confident in him despite some frustration on individual issues, it will put to bed the fantasist idea he’s somehow going to resign or be usurped and they can crack on with governing, hopefully with some improvements.

SayLaveee · 02/07/2025 12:56

DaphneduM · 02/07/2025 12:50

There's no rationale behind her decisions, either politically or economically.

e.g. taking away the winter fuel allowance - first announcement for the new government - saved a pittance and was terrible optics impacting on those just above pension credit - they could easily taken it away from higher rate taxpayers - much more acceptable

the talk about reducing the annual £20k allowance into a cash isa - I hope she doesn't do this - surely sensible savers should be encouraged not punished? Again politically it looks bad, and economically it won't have the desired effect that people will invest in British stocks and shares instead They won't.

I would never have voted Tory, as I believe in the fundamentals of a Labour government - however this new Government is not Labour - I'm not sure they have any core beliefs at all. I feel duped and an idiot for voting for this lot.

If you can save 20k a year, you're not a sensible saver.

You're rich.

Clearinguptheclutter · 02/07/2025 12:56

Bbc reports that she “looks upset”
she might have had personal stuff going on to be fair

Portakalkedi · 02/07/2025 12:56

I'd usually feel sorry for anyone who's brought to tears in front of all their colleagues, but she should never have accepted this role and should not have lied about her background, so not much sympathy in this case. Starmer too looks as if he regrets taking the job.

Rispknee · 02/07/2025 12:56

Gosh, imagine having human beings in charge!

I'm enjoying (if that's the right world) having leaders who will admit they don't always get it right and take steps to change things rather than digging in their heels. Also people who care enough to cry over it.

TheFairyCaravan · 02/07/2025 12:57

She looked like she’d been up all night crying from the moment it started, then half way through a tear fell down her cheek. I felt really uncomfortable watching it. This shit show isn’t hers and hers alone.

Eyesopenwideawake · 02/07/2025 12:57

MarxistMags · 02/07/2025 12:51

I think there should be a vote of no confidence against the PM.

He has a majority of 170.

GingerWhitePushkin · 02/07/2025 12:57

nahthatsnotforme · 02/07/2025 12:45

The clueless offered it to her and she foolishly (or maybe arrogantly) accepted.
She needs to resign.

hopefully that arrogance is being replaced by a sense of imposter syndrome- something that most Labour MPs should be experiencing in spades- would that they'd heed it

TwoTuesday · 02/07/2025 12:57

Struggling to think how another politician could have managed any better as Chancellor - the utterly broken economy she is trying to fix is a complete shit show thanks to the previous government, covid, huge benefits bill, Brexit, war in Ukraine etc. She's not a magician. I don't agree with the U turns on winter fuel, non doms and PIP.
They should have stuck to the policies as now they are floundering and will likely have to raise income taxes.
Normal PAYE type workers have had enough, we never seem to be listened to, unlike non doms, pensioners, claimants etc.

Dahliasrule · 02/07/2025 12:57

I have just watched the whole of PMQs. Rachel Reeves right from the start had the sort of puffy eyes that go with hay fever or a heavy cold. I didn’t see crying. Just one wipe of her eye which again be the result of hay fever. This is a non story whipped up out of nothing!

SummerFrog25 · 02/07/2025 12:57

MarxistMags · 02/07/2025 12:51

I think there should be a vote of no confidence against the PM.

I'd be all for it! Except, then what?

there's not one politician I wasn't as PM, a roils all the parties..

it's beyond dire. It's scary.

AInightingale · 02/07/2025 12:58

Well on a human level that's dreadful and I'm sorry for her, but the Chancellor crying isn't something I want to see. Reeves could resign and resign her seat tomorrow and she'd still have wealth and a very generous pension. I'm more worried about what this means for the rest of us.

ImNunTheWiser · 02/07/2025 12:58

Kemi Badenoch:

She is a human shield for his incompetence

I think she's correct.

I'd say £43k is a pretty comfortable pension personally - I'm talking pensions here, not salaries
