The whole of the labour Party have NO experience in running a business

Running a state is nothing like running a business. The last thing we need is business people running government.

Runnning a county or a company require first and formost strategic vision, leadership, people and communication skills. All successful business leaders have at least one of these...the current Government front bench have none of them.

All families are trying to do their best - the vat being added wasn’t suddenly announced it was widely flagged as a policy before the election- people had time to plan , move their year 9 and 10 kids to state school. Also what about the schools - they could have absorbed the cost for those approaching GCSE - introduced a longer payment plan, reduced fees for a period?

people are responsible for their own choices and planning - people are going without food, defaulting on mortgages etc no one is expecting the government to bail them out.

the last government allowed Brexit to happen, causes terrible damage to the economy and left the incoming government to sort it out

they could have absorbed the cost for those approaching GCSE - introduced a longer payment plan, reduced fees for a period?

Where do you think the money would come from for that? The magic Labour money tree? The schools most affected by this aren’t the schools with money to spare for flash facilities; they’re the schools working with extremely tight margins. They don’t have the funds to say to parents “oh here’s a fee reduction” or “don’t worry about paying this term’s fees. Pay it when you’re ready”. It’s not just VAT either. The hikes in NIC, business rates and the living wage have added to the problem. It also comes on top of a cost of living crisis.

This thread needs taking down, it's more disgraceful than even the vilest Meghan and Harry threads.

I didn't know MN could stoop so low but some of the comments on this thread are unhinged and disgusting.

Why do we need to save money on disability benefits thats only 4% of government spending why cant we save somewhere from the other 96% rather then target the most vulnerable in society

Benefits spending amounts to around 23% of government spending. By definition it could be argued that any changes to benefit spending will impact the most vulnerable whether it be pensioners, disabled people, low waged workers, single parents. But significant increases in people reliant on the state for whatever reason means the welfare bill will become unsustainable, if we’re not there already.

eacapade1982 · 02/07/2025 16:32

We need a stable government after years of Tory utter shitshow. They’re not perfect but they are better than the alternative. People should get behind them and engage in proper debate with them not gun for sacking them at every opportunity. People are never bloody happy. Things are a mess. We need to navigate that and try to improve it but there aren't any magic solutions. If there is a war I’d rather have Starmer in charge than Badenoch or Jeremy Corbyn for that matter.

Suicide isn't a risk it is a choice.

It a result of having no choices

TwoFeralKids · 02/07/2025 16:32

Sounds like those schools were already struggling then.

Dwimmer · 02/07/2025 16:33

The whole of the labour Party have NO experience in running a business, they won not because they were offering a new way but becuse the Tories messed up

Well quite - Labour got less votes in 2024 than they did at the previous election where the Tories got a significant majority.

Most private schools are. Don’t tell me; you still think most are like Eton or Harrow?

Probably because of the negative impact they’ve had in such a short period.

Edited

What specific negative impact?

2andadog · 02/07/2025 16:34

I agree on the food chain, no "powers that be" should be allowed to monopolise anything, I am not sure that is just a Labour problem though.

The geoengineering is largely speculative currently, but agree it is something I am also concerned about. However, there is no policy or moves to do with it in this government as of yet.

No. Lots of people have expressed disgust at what has been said on this thread.

I completely opposed the Welfare Bill. That doesn't mean I want to pile on a woman who was clearly having some sort of break down in public today. She needs support right now and I hope she is getting it.

She doesn't do any favours for professional women, or any women does she?
The number of threads we have on here about women dissolving onto tears in a professional setting or unwarranted circumstances is concerning. No wonder so many men see women as inferior and pathetic

Men would do well to get their own house in order first

But that poor management then? Running one week to the next with no safety net?

parents could have moved their kids? Before it came into effect? No child should be without education so the LA is required to place them and put temporary provision in place until it does.

its not like anyone woke up one day and surprisingly had to pay vat is it - everyone knew it was coming

I feel for her,

The welfare budget (including pension triple lock) is completely out of control and needs sorting. However, any plans to cut welfare has been met with complete outrage. This will fuck us all if its not sorted but, no one wants to sort it or have the hard conversations.

I agree with this.

So disabled people are probably the smallest percentage. The problem is disabled people and pensioners are the only ones who have no choice. Single parents and low wage earners can change their lives if they chose to do so pensioners and disabled people who is who the government came for are the most vulnerable as they cant.

So all you critical ‘experts’ where should she get the billions required to get the country back on its feet …………. Oh -of course tax the rich 😂😂😂

Maybe we could start by not committing £18.3 billion to Ukraine when we can’t balance our own books? It’s a colossal sum of money that we don’t have and there’s billions more pouring in from other countries on top of our contribution.

Abhannmor · 02/07/2025 16:37

I remember Mrs Thatcher welling up in an interview. She had been asked about the damage to working class communities inflicted by her policies. Can't remember if it was Brian Walden. Anyway everyone still thinks she is great. Except the people she fucked over. So who cares.

Curious but how many pupils at these schools are like the ones you talk of? What percentage? Fairly small I think.

Tens of thousands.

At ISC schools alone (which represents the majority of, but not all independent schools)

”103, 000 pupils at our schools have special educational needs.
55, 000 pupils are identified as having Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD) and 7,000 pupils have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans.”

There are many more who have educational needs or mental health issues without having a diagnosed SEN.
