How is any government meant to tackle this in a year? This happened under the Tories watch. I completely agree that economic migrants arriving illegally should not be given any right to remain but what do we do with them once they are here? If they were setting up huge tent cities the country would be up in arms, they have to be housed. The Tories were far too slow to build any kind of proper infrastructure to tackle this and it has ballooned out of control. It sounds easy to say ‘kick them out’ but have you any idea what a complicated process this is? Even leaving the EU can’t help us with this so the promises of ‘taking back control of the borders’ were a lie.

I agree!

So how are they all millionaires if its not from their wages

You should start a new thread if you want the answer to that!

No one has taken away your ability to pay for care. Nothing has happened yet. And even in the most extreme case, if PIP is altered, it doesn't apply to existing claimants. Additionally if you receive life saving care, administered only by way of PIP, you'd have been highly unlikely to lose anything even if the initial version of the bill had gone through.

Liz Kendall is the work and pensions secretary, not Rachel Reeves . The bill was her design. But all that aside, you're talking about your mental health and potential suicide, while actively rooting for the downfall of someone else.

Hence why im still alive. Because nothing has happened yet but that doesnt take away the uncertainty and the fear especially at the start so no i will not feel sorry for someone who was a large part of that just because they cried once what about all the times I cried

Cataract surgery maybe warranted @nomas

How about we take away your home, your whole income and your ability to earn money and see how long you survive

@alexalisten , how specifically would the changes have led that to happen to you? Which particular aspects would have done that?

littleblueenvelope · 02/07/2025 14:31

@CherriesOnTheTopthats what I find so hilarious! Be careful what you wish for! There isn’t a ‘benefits for all party’ coming to save anyone! As I said previously, PIP aside, the welfare system is a farce! I have seen first hand people abuse this system, with meticulous planning! Sadly, those that genuinely need the help are still left struggling whilst those that abuse the system lead a pretty ‘comfortable’ life! Something needs to change!

That would be the most boring thread ever.

nomas · 02/07/2025 14:28

No, you can’t see the tears. Can you post a picture?

Edited

Why did you change you post from "agreed" to this. You can clearly see the tears in that clip. Anyway, if you don't want to see what's there, fine!

Agbaac · 02/07/2025 14:32

What could a PM taking over from the Tories have done to improve the economy and UK society.

alexalisten · 02/07/2025 14:25

The lucrative world of public speaking.

Jennps · 02/07/2025 14:32

Nanny0gg · 02/07/2025 14:26

She knew exactly how it was going to go. I would think her job is on the line (even though the PM agreed with everything she did)

The awful thing that happened to you is in no way the same. (I'm so sorry for your loss)

I'm just trying to imagine Churchill crying at the dispatch box during WWII. He had far worse news to impart.

We have absolutely no statesmen or stateswomen in any party right now.

Or did anyone ever see Thatcher ever crying in parliament. The woman dealt with some of the most difficult circumstances in modern British history and was knifed in back by her colleagues. Sure, she got emotional when she left Downing street but could you ever imagine her crying in parliament.

AudHvamm · 02/07/2025 14:32

alexalisten · 02/07/2025 14:28

At the start they didn't we had a good few months at the start where we had no idea what was going on that we had to live with the fear and the unknown.

And that must've been awful, a really scary time and a good lesson for policy making that it's real human beings waiting on clarification after an announcement is made.

But your comment about Reeves trying to kill you and millions of others is emotive rather than factual.

@nomaswhat a question, perhaps glasses would be handy

WhereIsMyJumper · 02/07/2025 14:33

Thing is, if the country and its balance sheet had been in a decent(ish) state to begin with, RR may well have been the person for the job.

She should not have been the person to try and sort the financial mess we are in. It seems it’s way above her head.

Some of that financial mess was down to the Tories but also events such as Covid, Brexit etc.

Ive seen people calling for a snap election - that can’t work either - as much as Labour are a shit show at the minute we cannot keep going through all this instability! We need Labour to pull their act together, make hard decisions across the board on savings, stand firm in those decisions and stop looking like they’re floundering. RR needs to go. If not just to allow Labour to save some face!

OrrAppleCheeks · 02/07/2025 14:31

Well if I lost my whole income I wouldn't be able to pay for my care needs and would lose my house and be living on a park bench

SummerFrog25 · 02/07/2025 14:34

ScribblingPixie · 02/07/2025 13:38

The only thing that stops it for me is thinking of an old boss who I really, really hated and thinking "I won't give you the satisfaction of seeing me cry" 😐

Thank you for the suggestion. I've tried that too, but it didn't help me. At the moment I'm going with warning people & asking them just to ignore the tears, because I cannot stop them but stil want/need to discuss the issue at hand.

I was bad enough before, but I had a ' medical event' this year that us well known for causing this too.

apart from being embarrassing, it's fucking annoying too because it makes it difficult to have conversations & I'm actually a strong person and not even necessarily upset. It's just like a broken tsp!!

I'm not sure where you're finding the published figures for MPs private wealth. Some (Rishi Sunak) are disgustingly rich, but certainly not all. The PM salary is around £172,000 a year, a lot of money sure, but nowhere near enough for the responsibility involved. MPs earn much, much less.

Google is free...and your friend. If you don't know something, find out. Don't just make baseless accusations.

But it is factual how long do you think disabled people last on the streets. How long do you think people live with bo income.

MargoLivebetter · 02/07/2025 14:36

@nomas, you can see it happen for yourself on Parliament TV at 13 minutes past 1200.

Anyone from the Conservative Party and they can save the finances of this great nation.

It doesn't work like that.

I googled what is Rachel reeves net worth and it came up 2 million in 2025

littleblueenvelope · 02/07/2025 14:37

Who would be a political? There's fuck all about attractive. Unless you like arguing constantly and belittling others.
No wonder the country is getting shittier and shittier.

If she was crying, I hope someone helps her out. I'd skedaddle - nothing is worth all this crappy shit. I thought she started with good intentions, makes me wonder what happens with the civil servants, advisors in those offices.

Absolutely this, as a country we have such a powerful right wing press and lots of people pushing that agenda on social media that voters have fell for, many have no intellectual agency and their opinions are based on whims and self interest, not substantive issues. The manifestation of this intellectual abandonment and cultural neuroses over non issues e.g. a person in the public eye crying, is that living in the UK does seem to be a bit shit at the moment. Worse is yet to come for some of us if Reform Britain is a prospect!

Oh so you do know how to use Google! Perfect. I have no idea of her personal wealth, seems unlikely she’d publish that anywhere. But I do know her salary, because that is a matter of public record.
