Wow. She needs to go. No sympathy.

Margaret Thatcher cried when she left 10 Downing St ''for the last time'' but never at Dispatch Box or when she was stabbed in the back. RR should have taken antidepressants before she arrived if she was feeling so low - it's a bad show for the whole country.

Antidepressants are not a magic pill that you can take once and they stop you feeling upset, or crying. They are not mood stabilisers, & can take weeks or months to be effective.
No wonder people are so judgemental about mental health conditions, if this is how they think treatments work!

One died, not some.

An ongoing, current riot needs dealing with decisively in order to deter more people from joining in and overwhelming the system.

The failure of some people to act in the grooming gangs scandal, doesn't bear any relation to the southport riots.

Lucy Connolly for the millionth time plead guilty and was sentenced well within the guidelines. No sentencing guidelines were changed to amp up her punishment. Her (and your) ignorance of the potential outcome of her crime isn't a mitigating factor.

I never mentioned the grooming gangs or Lucy. You did. I was simply adding context as to why 2TK is called 2TK. Some is one or more...

So - on a thread about RR crying - I won't be getting into an argument about the Pakistani child rape and murder gangs (to call them their proper name) or discussing how Lucy was badly advised to plead guilty, to get a lesser charge (a non prison sentence), and had she not done so the onus would have been on the court to prove her guilt - which would have been very hard to do with out the admission! That they then threw the book at her can't be down to 2TK, definitely not, not way, as he claims to have only heard about it a few weeks ago.

bestcatlife · 02/07/2025 14:24

@Spartahori I would be on the streets if I lost my job, I have no family support and that's not my fault. (Most of them are dead)

sleepwouldbenice · 02/07/2025 14:20

Genuine question how can you be so naive

I disagree - Labour have done an appalling job. They have failed spectacularly.

MPs are not paid millions to do their jobs, not even Cabinet Ministers.

So how are they all millionaires if its not from their wages

Jennps · 02/07/2025 14:25

Starmer has thrown her under the bus. He caved into the far left Marxists yesterday and Reeves knows she has run out of road.

There is no money left.

Bond markets are going to punish her and so is the electorate when she raises taxes.

Rich taxpayers are running for the door, taking their tax dollars with them. Inflation is on the up. Companies are leaving the UK like it’s plagued - see Astra Zeneca announcement today.

This country is cooked. Two Tier, Rachel from accounts and the rest of heh shower of shite government took a dumpster of an economy and set fire to it.

FloofyBird · 02/07/2025 14:25

Maybe she wanted to be there? Can you imagine if they said 'no sorry Rach, you're too emotional to be seen in public today'....

AudHvamm · 02/07/2025 14:26

Taking away my ability to pay for care and to cause me to become homeless would have absolutely lead to my death if I hadn't have died by suicide prior to that

This isn't what was being proposed though, is it? If you were worried about your PIP being downgraded they'd already said it wasn't going to apply to current recipients and already decoupled from UC so not sure where homelessness comes in.

I have disabled family members so I sympathise with how it must feel to not know how you'll fill personal care needs.

Well said. The level of ignorance and heartlessness on this thread is really something, even by MN standards

ShouldWeGoAway · 02/07/2025 14:05

And @2dogsandabudgie& @roses2 You are assuming she knew ahead of time that something awful was going to happen.

Like I should have? I didn't know beforehand that he was going to die, I didn't know how, when and where I was going to be told, I also had to tell others (family and work colleagues).

Fortune telling powers too required for public office?

FGS, have some compassion.

Edited

She knew exactly how it was going to go. I would think her job is on the line (even though the PM agreed with everything she did)

The awful thing that happened to you is in no way the same. (I'm so sorry for your loss)

I'm just trying to imagine Churchill crying at the dispatch box during WWII. He had far worse news to impart.

We have absolutely no statesmen or stateswomen in any party right now.

Stop paying for thousands of undocumented young men to enter the country and be housed and fed at a cost of billions. There’s the real ‘black hole’, the cost we are not allowed to challenge.

How is any government meant to tackle this in a year? This happened under the Tories watch. I completely agree that economic migrants arriving illegally should not be given any right to remain but what do we do with them once they are here? If they were setting up huge tent cities the country would be up in arms, they have to be housed. The Tories were far too slow to build any kind of proper infrastructure to tackle this and it has ballooned out of control. It sounds easy to say ‘kick them out’ but have you any idea what a complicated process this is? Even leaving the EU can’t help us with this so the promises of ‘taking back control of the borders’ were a lie.

A non-custodial.sentence was never on the cards and Connelly knew it when she pleaded guilty. Read the appeal documents.

She is only human. Unlike you obviously.

This is not the look a country wants from government surprised you don't get it. How will this crowd be if there is war - will they all just cry?

ScratCat · 02/07/2025 14:27

MrsKeats · 02/07/2025 13:10

I am sure you could do better. What happened to women supporting women??

What a ludicrous comment. Do we support any person completely out of their depth and lamentably bad at their job, just because she’s a felllow woman?

I support people based on actual attributes, not purely by virtue of their sex.

TwoFeralKids · 02/07/2025 14:21

Maybe get a third or fourth job? Give up netflix?

That doesn’t answer the question that @Spartahori asked.

ClareBlue · 02/07/2025 14:27

But no western society has been able to afford its generous welfare systems for decades. Everyone of them borrows billions a year just to keep it going and have created a societal entitlement that is almost impossible to break. It might not seem overly generous to those in receipt because of the expectation of a life style similar to the rest of society. But it is completely unaffordable to tax payers, has created swaves of dependency, is easy enough to defraud, has narrowed the gap of the benefits of working and created poverty traps and intergenerational dependency. It has also created a whole industry on maintaining the status. It also subsidises businesses to pay low wages by topping up incomes with welfare and paying grants for people taking up low paid jobs to employers.
I would say any Chancellor try to deal with that might shed a tear or two.

No one has taken away your ability to pay for care. Nothing has happened yet. And even in the most extreme case, if PIP is altered, it doesn't apply to existing claimants. Additionally if you receive life saving care, administered only by way of PIP, you'd have been highly unlikely to lose anything even if the initial version of the bill had gone through.

Liz Kendall is the work and pensions secretary, not Rachel Reeves . The bill was her design. But all that aside, you're talking about your mental health and potential suicide, while actively rooting for the downfall of someone else.

At the start they didn't we had a good few months at the start where we had no idea what was going on that we had to live with the fear and the unknown.

nhsmanagersanonymous · 02/07/2025 14:28

She had no business being there in that state and those around her should have supported her to not be there. It’s unsurprising she’s upset, she’s making a total mess of it but that’s as much due to the PM’s disastrous leadership (and I’m a Labour voter) as anything else.

TwoFeralKids · 02/07/2025 14:28

Why does Labour only get a year to do anything right yet the Tories can get away with years of disastrous decision making? We cannot vote in Farage. We will be a laughing stock.

justasking111 · 02/07/2025 14:28

Starmer has admitted Davos world 🌎 politics trumps the UK in his opinion.

I think he sees himself on the world stage because Blair has achieved that and is minted. However, Blair served the country for a lot longer, Cherie behind the scenes built the foundations. Blair is personable, Starmer is not. Yes he will make money as an ex PM but not the giddy heights of Blair. Partly because Cherie worked with with Tony. Whereas you get the feeling Mrs Starmer isn't that invested in her husband's ambitions.

nomas · 02/07/2025 14:29

AnotherBrickIn · 02/07/2025 12:43

She was 100% crying. Tears rolling down her face, lip wobbling - looked like she was about to break down

Why are you lying?

MargoLivebetter · 02/07/2025 14:29

@Nanny0gg comparing a current politician to one from 80 odd years ago is a bit strange, particularly one who readily admitted he used heavy alcohol consumption to prop himself up!
