was laying bed when i heard my dog barking at the front of the house. when she should be safely locked up in the back yard. went to look out the back window and the back gate was wide open dog no where to be seen!

the back gate is usually locked, i dont know why it wasnt last night but i cant even remember who opened it last so cant blame anyone for that.

cue me getting up immediatley and searching streets for dog. luckily she had come back of her own accord and was waiting at the back gate while i was looking round the front for her !

dp thinks that this is forgivable as who ever let her out probably did because they were sick of her barking. i think that if this is the casae they should have to come to me to complain and not just let my family out!

the dog does bark but only when she hears noises. although this noise can be just a car and usually is. on a weekend her barking is worse because she can hear people coming home in taxis and drunks walking past.

but if she is barking for more than a couple of minutes at a time i will go and see what she is barking at which stops her.

we live oppposite a bus depo and two very busy roads so there is every chance that the dog could have been run over, she is a terrier so it is her nature to hunt and kill, she could very easily have gotten hold of some ones pet bunny, guniea pig, chickens, kitten (she is scared of cats i have two and the bully her but could easily kill a kitten), for all who ever let out knows she could be a biting dog and could have got hold of a child, also who ever did do it must live in my street as we have alley gates so they would also know that i have a four year old dd who would be gutted if her dog was hurt.

am absolutely livid that some one would be so inconsiderate dp still seems to think this acceptable (but admits it is wrong he is just not annoyed by it) as the dog could have woke them up

i have said that i will get her a cage and keep her inside if she is causing a problem for the neighbours! i have said that i am going to get dp to ask them first because i would rather have in her v large yard than a cage overnight! but i dont want her peeing all over my kitchen!

i have also said that i didnt realise that the problem could be medical and will take her to the vets to be checked! and i have said that we are getting a trainer! to deal mainly with recall and her fear, once we move but if her barking/peeing is still a problem then we will sort that too. i have also said that i will do what freckle suggested with the bell on the door!

i am not upset that people could be upset by her barking, i will deal with that, but i still think that there were much better ways to go about letting me know they were fed up than to let the dog out! surely you can all agree with!

and no i dont think that i have learned to tune out the dog, she drives me nuts through the day as she can see the buses through the window and therefore barks at them, if i put her out she cam hear next doors kids playing and barks at that so i bring her in! hence the reason my curtains are normally shut so that she cannot see the buses and mil thinks that i sleep all day coz i never open my curtains!

i cannot stand the sound of her barking!

i am listening to you all and will be checking with the neighbours if she is bothering them.

Chequers - I agree - it may be nervous and scared and so Micci needs to take control of it and sort it out... doesn't really matter how (and we do reward the dogs too) but it needs doing (whatever way) before the dog does something which results in a "AIBU - my dog just bit the kids" post in a few weeks.

Do you have freeview/Sky Micci?

anachronism · 25/05/2008 12:13

Gawd. I really, really hate little yappy terriers. I hate them like nothing else.

They yap for no reason all the bloody time.

If it drives you bonkers then assume it is also driving your entire street bonkers.

The peeing has to be sorted, then it can be kept indoors and should maybe bark less..?

Hope you can sort it out.

lulumama · 25/05/2008 12:13

micci, you ask

"
but seriously would a dog that barks maybe once or twice a week bother everyone that much?"

yes, it would seriously bother me. as i said lower down the thread. being woken up once or twice a week every week ad infinitum would be frustrating , infuriating and a big problem,

Alambil · 25/05/2008 12:13

Don't bother with the neighbours - it's pissing you off, you just said that... just deal with it.

Why are you making excuses? The dog can be toilet trained - go back to basics, shut it in a kitchen or somewhere, put paper down over the floor and in the morning, clear up accidents. In a few weeks make the patch of paper smaller... SLOWLY work down and down towards just one bit of paper. Move this bit slowly towards the back door... the dog will follow the paper and eventually realise it's going outside. Hey presto! Toilet trained dog.

Really, you don't need to be getting annoyed with the dog - a dog is meant to be a fun and relaxing pet!

lol at 'are you thick or something'

micci is spectacularly and deliberately missing the point

She's making excuses because that way she doesn't have to admit she is in the wrong.

Alambil · 25/05/2008 12:16

I think the dog needs rehoming actually if Micci is this blind to issues in RL (as opposed to just trying to piss us off on this thread!)

lol at this now esp 'lacking'

LF there is no need to hit micci on the head with a nail. It won't help.

It is so obviously a wind up!

"if he wants to bring his car in that late and the dog barking bothers him all he has to do is knock and let us know that he bringing in the car and we will bring the dog inside"

So he has to adjust HIS nightly routine because your dog has a barking problem? Do you know how unreasonable that sounds?

We lived next door to a dog that barked on & off through the night, almost everynight. We complained to the owners who said she only did it once or twice for a minute or two...ERM, NO she did not! They were so used to it, they hardly heard her at all, less so while the house was sleeping.

Our dog has a bladder problem, and I would LOVE to have him sleep outside so I don't have to clear it up but I keep him in, because I know how frustrating it is to have to live with the noise. I take it as my responsibility to make sure that he isn't disturbing the neighbours.

A few minutes barking in the early hours is enough to wake some people & enough to majorly piss them off if it is recurrent!

micci25 · 25/05/2008 12:34

erm when did i say that i wouldnt be training her? i actually said that i would be following freckles tips on the toilet training/ bell ringing. and i have also said that we were already getting a dog trainer when we move, and that we have already tried training classes.

the barking pisses me off in the day because it is constant in the day but when i move i wont be living opposite a bus depot so there is that problem solved! it doesnt bother me on a night.

i would be happy to go back to using plastic matting in the kitchen and newspaper esp since we dont have carpet there anyway (dp ripped it up, because it was burnt and we have a new one, but has not bothered laying the new one yet) but dp is not happy with this.

yes i have sky plus lewis fan. dp will speaking to the nieghbours on one side as he gets on with them i dont due to other issues, i have already knocked on the other side but he is not in.

I think we know who is barking.

Thing is, some people are genuinely this clueless, that's why it's believable. It's also quite enjoyable to be Digusted of Tunbridge Wells occasionally.

"but when i move i wont be living opposite a bus depot so there is that problem solved!"

The problem won't be solved. Lewisfan has pointed out that the cause of the barking is your dog's perception that he is the alpha dog of the pack. Therefore, you won't have solved that problem, will you?

Are you actually reading any of the helpful posts?

WanderingTrolley · 25/05/2008 12:37

Go on.

Tell us about the burnt carpet. You know you want to. Is it related to the 'other issues?'

(next door's yapper has just started barking!)

RustyBear · 25/05/2008 12:38

So if you accept the barking is constant during the day (enough to piss you off) do you not think that it may also be pissing off your neighbours, so that when she barks at night it's just the final straw for them?

MrsCarrot · 25/05/2008 12:38

other issues?

a nail put across your door so you can't get out?

Hmm.

micci25 · 25/05/2008 12:40

i mentioned earlier that she was slagging me off in the local pub to the barmaids not realsing that my sister worked there because my dd1 went through a phase where she screamed duriing the night nad would not stop regardless of whether any one was with her. the neighbour presumed that she was left alone to cry, she wasnt i was with her she wouldnt stop. the doctor thinks that iot will be growing pains and she will grow out of this.

she proceeded to tell the barmaids that i ignore my dd and dont go to her when she is crying! i was highly annoyed at this as i believe if the thought for one second that i was not looking after my kids properly she should have talked to me or social services not the local barmaid!

i told the barmaid exactly what i thought of her friend and i am fairly sure that she has been told what i think as she wont aknowledge me now!
