I wasn’t sure how to title this - but we put our house on the market 3 weeks ago and have had utter tumbleweed. I’m including a link - am I missing something? I think it’s priced right for the market and I think the photos are lovely but maybe I’m too close to it?? AIBU to think we should have had a least a little interest? Or am I missing something glaring??

Very narrow rooms as is the garden - it looks like your neighbours fences are coming into your side. The kitchen looks soulless with the big void one end. You need new photos and less wide angle shots. Not a clue re price as I don’t know the area

I would also be put off by next door. Your house has curb appeal but next door doesn't - is it empty or does someone who doesn't/can't take any care of their garden live there? I would be worried about permanently fighting off weeds from next door. Can you ask the neighbour if you can mow the front lawn for them then get some new pictures done?

What's wrong with next door? Confused Quite a few people have mentioned this... Yeah, the grass on the front lawn is a bit long, but so what? That doesn't mean they will be a shit neighbour. Maybe they were taking part in 'No Mow May' when the photo was taken, or maybe they're rewilding. It's becoming very fashionable/popular to let your garden grow a little bit wild.

Some people are going on as if the neighbour's garden is like this! 😆

Nice living room OP, but that is an off-putting kitchen layout with the unit right in the middle of the narrow space. Also the garden lets things down.

but it’s very nice overall so I’m guessing the price is the issue.

WhereOnEarthIsMyPlanet · 01/07/2025 17:27

Well after that pretty brutal takedown of the OP’s house I’m not sure she’ll be back…

zingally · 01/07/2025 17:28

It's interesting the things that leap out at you. The kitchen struck me as a very odd design/layout. All we could really see was an empty island with a few drawers. Where's the fridge/oven/sink/cupboards? For a family home, a kitchen is a massive feature, and needs to be prominent in photos. Not just appearing in the background of other shots. It's a funny layout.
The other room with the dining table - It is a bit... uni common room. A long room with no windows and a bit cluttered with mis-matched furniture. Maybe get rid of the pink pouffe and the orange chair for the photos, just to emphasize the space a bit more.

UpMyself · 01/07/2025 17:29

Is it OP's house? She's not been back since starting the thread
My thought on the listing is that it doesn't seem to make sense without the floor plan.

The photos are bad because they don't convey the purpose of the rooms. The kitchen photo seems to be a photo of a very long island in a corridor.

Yesindeeed · 01/07/2025 17:31

Ok, I just found the 2018 version. I can see it was better presented then. The kitchen you inherited- but the previous owner showed it better.
Same story with the back garden, bedrooms, bathroom and attic. You’ve added not very attractive carpets and repainted downstairs.
Essentially, the house doesn’t show the ‘lifestyle’ in the photos you obviously bought into 8 years ago.
Plus it’s too expensive, a house is only ever worth what someone is willing to pay.

pharmer · 01/07/2025 17:31

It's always the price

Mysweetheart · 01/07/2025 17:37

I live in the area. Price is insane for Grantham which has no shops zero high street now. Also parking around Harrowby Road and traffic is a nightmare.

Re: the kitchen. Who came up with that layout? I've never seen anything like it and I've been watching property programmes for about 20 years now. If you Google 'layouts for long, narrow kitchens' and hit 'Images' there is literally nothing like yours OP in all the photos I browsed through. And there is a reason for that - people want what's in those photos, not what you have.

It's like the opposite of a kitchen - floorspace where there are normally units and units where there's usually floor space. Never seen the like, and now a pp has mentioned mortuary I can Emilia Fox wafting in 😂
The living and dining rooms are fine - if busy - the attic room pic must be stretched as there's no way that door is fitting that wide, low opening.
As both sides of garden fence need sorting, it wouldn't really matter who owns which - one side will cost money and the other will be annoyingly out of your control.

HauntedMarshmallow · 01/07/2025 17:47

I’m sorry but it looks hollowed out and featureless downstairs. I know there has been a massive trend for removing walls from every room but it’s really coming to the tail end. Open plan is not very warm and inviting with very little privacy. The kitchen/diner just looks like a room dedicated to a kitchen island and I’d hate to be in there. It doesn’t look relaxing at all.

Grantham is quite a tradition area, I’d of thought people were looking for the country cottage/country house vibe.

UpMyself · 01/07/2025 17:47

The high open shelves with what looks like ingredients on it looks weird.

Selfsetfree · 01/07/2025 17:51

I think price needs lowering as I don’t think it’s an expensive area but the house is lovely.

I think the downstairs is gorgeous - I love the way you’ve styled the living room. The kitchen looks great too, but you also need photos of where all the kitchen stuff is.

The upstairs is quite disappointing in comparison though - it just doesn’t look like the same amount of effort has gone into it. You could do with tidying up the bedrooms a bit - it would help to look up some interiors accounts on Instagram and copy the way they’ve styled the beds.

Also, your garden does not look very attractive - very small with a lot of dried out grass. I would suggest buying some large outdoor pot plants to jazz it up a bit.

After all that though, as PPs have said, it’s probably also rather overpriced compared to similar properties nearby.

I was expecting the upstairs to be of the s

Gettingbysomehow · 01/07/2025 17:59

My parents have had to give up their idea of emigrating. They can't sell their house. It's a superb mediaeval house, one of the best in the street. A lot of people just aren't selling well now. Can you leave it for a couple of years? 5 years ago people were knocking on their door to ask if they could buy their house and those houses weren't even getting on rightmove before they were sold.

Canonlythinkofthisone · 01/07/2025 17:59

no bath? no parking, no storage by the looks of it in the bedrooms or kitchen (hence the shelf with all your cupboard ingredients) all for the princely sum of 390k in Grantham? For a terrace?
it's the price 100%

Idontgiveashitanymore · 01/07/2025 18:00

The kitchen looks bare. The game room looks awkward with the boiler in the corner , I’m sorry but the bedrooms have no appeal.
sorry 😔

The back garden photos also look like next door is not well looked after. That doesn't make them bad people (it could be empty, they could be unwell/elderly or lovely fantastic people who just don't give a crap about gardening) but it is a factor, especially with a house you are physically attached to.

We had a vacant property next to us when we last moved as it was going through probate we asked the son of the former owner if we could tidy the garden before our photos/any viewings. He said yes and we ran the mower a few times, pulled up any major weeds.

user1471538283 · 01/07/2025 18:04

It is lovely but it'll be the price putting people off. There's a huge increase in what you value it at when you've done no work to it and it must be over the ceiling price for the area.

I think you'll need to drop the price significantly.

The estate agents haven’t done you any favours, it a good looking home, I’d get them to come and do that all again.

Switch the lights off move floor mats in bathrooms, the boys rooms looks like a lack of storage so move the stuff in the corner. But otherwise a nice looking family house.

Yup, agree with this

CoffeeMama1 · 01/07/2025 18:07

I've property hunted extensively in this area due to relocation and this is an extortionate price for a mid terrace in Grantham 😬

Booboobagins · 01/07/2025 18:09

I think your house may be over priced @Onwayto50 It's lovely but I'd rather buy one of the 5/6 bed properties for £300k near you than yours because there is value to add to the other houses.

Sorry to be harsh. I'd review the price. Your house is lovely x
