I wasn’t sure how to title this - but we put our house on the market 3 weeks ago and have had utter tumbleweed. I’m including a link - am I missing something? I think it’s priced right for the market and I think the photos are lovely but maybe I’m too close to it?? AIBU to think we should have had a least a little interest? Or am I missing something glaring??

I was zooming in trying to find the rest of the kitchen but it appears the island is the kitchen?
Very strange. Perhaps some more shots showing the other end of the kitchen?

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 01/07/2025 16:43

I think that that kitchen is just weird, as someone said, like an operating theatre.

I can't get my head round a terraced house being for sale in the Midlands for £390 K, especially with no off road parking.

And personally I'd hate to live opposite a crem with a constant stream of hearses going by (and possible parking issues) but that might just be me.

RominaDina · 01/07/2025 16:43

You have a really nice house, it's clearly well looked after.
However, the kitchen is a bit strange and I'd have to redo that, personally. I agree with pp the price needs to come down.

ForFunGoose · 01/07/2025 16:48

Add a floor plan with dimensions
The photos aren’t great but I think the overall look is nice. Good luck

tripleginandtonic · 01/07/2025 16:48

It seems very narrow from the video. The music that accompanies it is awful btw.
Good luck with getting some viewings soon.

Cakeandusername · 01/07/2025 16:51

It look nice but my first thought is parking - where do you park, how easy, any restrictions and the garden is poor just a path to gate no where to sit or children to play.

ImInHere · 01/07/2025 16:52

Goodness, I hope you’re up for all the criticism, we’ve all watched countless house makeover programs we are all “ experts”

Your house makes a great first impression, the lilac could be trimmed a little.
Clearly a conversion at some point, has removed the sitting room door, and amalgamated two rooms into one, leaving only the dining room door, but you have made a good use of wall space in the hall, with pictures, and the sitting room looks good with the sofas and pictures.

( the other house in Grantham someone posted, well the owners have astonishingly great taste, and are excellent home designers) but yours is good.

Unfortunately, as people have pointed out, your kitchen has a strange layout, with a rather plain back garden.

You can get away with your garden, with a few tall planters, and some lower planted colour, so you could take them along to your new home.
Instant drama and colour.

I once created a false flower bed for my sister at short notice with compost and bedding plants over lawn, to give a more balanced effect at the first view, so it can be done.

Ive no idea about pricing in your area, but think about how best to dress and furnish your kitchen, as this is often the deciding factor.
You have a long kitchen, just embrace it.

A long rug at one side and some judiciously placed side tables to cordon of one area for prep, may make all the difference.

You might even cut off the table part, finish the edge and add a dining table at the end of the room.

Best of luck

Cakeandusername · 01/07/2025 16:54

Other thoughts are will cost a fortune to heat. I think people are being more cautious given overall cost of living.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 01/07/2025 16:55

For me, that kitchen island is a massive turn off. It looks like a huge room, which I'd want to use as a family room at one end, and instead it's blocked all the way down the middle by the island.

I think the garden fence needs replacing OR fixing too. But that wouldn't put me off.

The bedrooms and bathroom need 'dressing' for nice photographs. They're a bit scruffy looking but I assume the rooms themselves are good.

Other than that, I think it looks really nice although as someone else has said, it seems to be very expensive for the area. Also as someone with a living room of a similar size and layout, it is very hard and expensive to heat. I think with current utility costs, people are now looking for more traditional, 2 smaller downstairs rooms rather than one big one (I've considered getting mine divided again).

I don't think it is anything to do with us seeing ourselves as "experts".
The OP asked why she had no viewings.
People are saying why they would not view.
For some that is the lack of apparent parking, for some (most) it is the price and for me it is that the period character has been removed (it was still somewhat there when OP bought the house as evidenced in previous listing)
OP asked. We answered.

Horses7 · 01/07/2025 16:59

Seems expensive for a terrace house, nice as it is.

RominaDina · 01/07/2025 16:59

Absolutely, @TheNinthLock , no-one is claiming to be an expert, but most of us have bought and sold houses, and the OP did ask for advice.
We're just giving advice based on our preferences and experience. I hope it helps the OP.

GetDressedYouMerryGentlemen · 01/07/2025 17:01

I would also be put off by next door. Your house has curb appeal but next door doesn't - is it empty or does someone who doesn't/can't take any care of their garden live there? I would be worried about permanently fighting off weeds from next door. Can you ask the neighbour if you can mow the front lawn for them then get some new pictures done?

mauvishagain · 01/07/2025 17:02

Being bang opposite the "dead centre of Grantham" might put some people off too.

LibertyLily · 01/07/2025 17:03

It has to be price. I also wonder what @Onwayto50 has done to the property since purchase to warrant such a hefty uplift....

But also, that kitchen is definitely marmite. I can see where the fridge freezer is, but nonetheless it's a very strange setup imho.

At our last house - that we completely renovated from a scruffy repo - we added a long, but wide island that could be said to dominate the space. However, there was still sufficient width to have cabinets (with range cooker, sink, dishwasher etc) along the full length of one wall opposite this and a huge larder plus additional cabinets and fridge freezer elsewhere in the room. There was also space for a sofa and we had a separate laundry space off the kitchen.

Whereas in the OP's kitchen there's a looong, thin island and nothing to either side - something I've never come across before. I imagine many potential buyers will be factoring in the cost to replace with a 'normal' kitchen.

Otherwise the house seems reasonably well presented although a bit lacking in original features for my taste. I do think some of the photos need redoing so the house looks less narrow and the garden is rather disappointing/needs prettifying, but that wouldn't put me off viewing. Again, it's the price - I guess people aren't seeing it because their RM parameters are set lower/therefore missing it?

TheWalkingEyebag · 01/07/2025 17:04

Great kerb appeal and obviously very well maintained, but personally, I wouldn’t view for three reasons: the price, the kitchen (I can’t wrap my head around it at all), and the flooring (dark and would look weird with my furniture). I might overlook the price if the kitchen and flooring was perfect for me, but not if I still had to spend money on expensive upgrades. But that really is just a taste thing!

Zov · 01/07/2025 17:06

Are you still here @Onwayto50 ???

pinkyredrose · 01/07/2025 17:06

Sorry but the dining table in the living room looks very uninviting, the kitchen island is way too big but mainly it's too expensive.

Viviennemary · 01/07/2025 17:06

It does look ery nice from the outside. But I immediately thought where is all their stuff. Also the narrow garden would put me off. It seems very expensive for the area.

TiswasPhantomFlanFlinger · 01/07/2025 17:08

YetAnotherNewNameAgain · 01/07/2025 13:22

I don't think the pictures are great. The whole house downstairs looks like a corridor with no windows.

The kitchen looks non existent.

There house looks beautifully presented, but very awkward.

I would redo the photos. Maybe you need now of the features of the rooms.

Agree.
Where are the wall units? Where do you keep drinking glasses, cups, tea, coffee etc?
There is nowhere near enough storage in the kitchen. I do a lot of cooking and have so much equipment and so many ingredients to store.
Otherwise a lovely example of Victorian house, not that I’m a fan of them though.

FilthyforFirth · 01/07/2025 13:29

No idea on the area but given it isn't the south east the price seems insane for a terrace. The house seems nice enough but massively overpriced.

Not just the south east

Terraced houses of a similar size where I am still for £700k +++

Shefliesonherownwings · 01/07/2025 17:10

I agree that the photos don’t look great to be honest. Also the colours of the walls and furnishings are jarring for me. Too much pink included the bright pink chairs and the green in the kitchen and bedroom isn’t nice.

Agree with the price, it seems a lot for that area.

diddl · 01/07/2025 17:11

As everyone says, it's likely price.

People putting that price in on Rightmove probably aren't looking for a terrace on Harrowby Rd.

babasaclover · 01/07/2025 17:13

@Onwayto50Why don’t you have a kitchen? Is there some of it not shown? An island with some drawers in it is not enough.

also price is ridiculous for the area!

There are 81 four bedroom houses for sale on Grantham for under £400k.

Nearly all of the ones prices around yours are detached and bigger.

Yours is lovely but very expensive with a LOT of competition. If I was buying a 4 bed there would be so many I'd view first.
