DH not changed bedding for 4 weeks

He's in a separate bedroom. Flithy f**ker not changed his bed for 4 weeks, so this morning I asked him if he was thinking of changing his sheets as he's been in them for 4 weeks.....he doesn't have a clue how long they've been on....If I had not mentioned it, I wonder how long he'd have kept them on.
He's in our son's room and he's coming back end of July so have ordered some nice new bedding for him 😄

That was 2 months ago. Why is he not back in with you? And when I had a major op, I wanted my spouse closer. Not in another room. It just seems all rather odd.

Not even a little bit odd. I had major orthopaedic surgery and was nervous about DH accidentally walloping my incision in his sleep. It was definitely still extremely tender after two months.

Indeed - maybe you prefer separate rooms - if my H didn’t make such a fuss about it - so would I - especially when it’s hot!

Couples who work shifts often have separate rooms so that they don't disturb each other, I think it's a fairly common arrangement that makes a lot of sense.

PotteringPondering · 02/07/2025 16:22

I'm astonished at the number of people on here who say they wash their bedding as frequently as once a week.

Just one question to those people: do you iron it too? Do you iron full sets of bedding every week of your life??

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/07/2025 16:23

It's utterly bizarre that people might think facts about cleanliness amount to competitive cleaning. Dust mites in bedding etc exacerbate allergies and asthma. Weekly washing is a standard recommendation regardless.
I do also have a mattress protector that has an impermeable layer that gets washed and mattress is still vacuumed every couple months and steam cleaned. Couches vacuumed regularly and steam cleaned. Same with curtains and area rugs.
Sleeping in a bed a month without washing bedding is dirty.

No, we don't iron our bedding. It's washed, hung out, dried and folded/put away.

Cherrytree86 · 02/07/2025 16:32

omg who irons bedding?!?

Nope. If that’s the standard, I’m getting a cleaner.

I am not, will not, spend my weekends hoovering curtains. I hereby resign from adulthood.

I do.

LillyPJ · 02/07/2025 16:51

I do.

I iron pillowcases because they feel nicer.

Crikeyalmighty · 02/07/2025 16:57

@SleeplessInWherever I can only conclude poster is a SAHM, very part time or on maternity leave - OR seriously rich with a housekeeper - if anyone is working full time and hoovering and steam cleaning mattresses personally they will more than likely burn out at some point -

Totally agree

The same people who get out of the shower to wee.

ShoeeMcfee · 02/07/2025 17:11

My mum used to iron bedding, and hankies (remember them?)

What? You're telling me some people don't iron hankies?

I remember ironing hankies for a Brownie badge back in the day. Can’t remember what badge it was but was probably “Housework” or something equally archaic.

Yes I did - no idea why my post ws deleted.

I was in the queue at the airport yesterday and you could tell the people who are averse to daily showers, freshly washed clothes and bedding. The have that stale / funky smell that mumsnetters insist doesn't exist.

Why is that unbelievable?

I do. Not our own but for the guest rooms.

Okiedokie123 · 02/07/2025 18:00

I only change mine once a month. They arent smelly, sweaty or dirty as such. Just used. Once a month is fine for bedding. That doesnt mean my "bar isnt set high" it just means I dont wash stuff that doesnt need washing.

ladyrushford · 02/07/2025 18:00

As someone who changes the beds every Sunday and washes the towels weekly (we do tend to use the same towel for the week -period exempt of course- I feel your pain OP. I feel it when my sheets need changed, just like I feel it when my hair needs washed. I couldn’t cope with life if they weren’t changed weekly.

Lollylucyclark101 · 02/07/2025 18:04

Kateb12 · 01/07/2025 13:19

Unless he shits or pisses the bed it's not that big a deal.

get off your high horse.

Exactly this! 🤣

I do mine every 2 weeks, and wash the pillow protectors/mattress protectors every month.

Im always genuinely curious how dirty people are when they’re getting into bed at night, especially when there claiming to change them every week (bore off! I’ve got better things to do!) why do they need to do it every week unless they’re not showing/washing every night and putting on clean underwear and pyjamas!

unless it’s extremely HOT and I know we have been sweating or we have been ill (I recently boiled washed mine because I’d been bitten by mosquitoes!), every 2 weeks…. Every 4 weeks is fine!
