DH not changed bedding for 4 weeks

He's in a separate bedroom. Flithy f**ker not changed his bed for 4 weeks, so this morning I asked him if he was thinking of changing his sheets as he's been in them for 4 weeks.....he doesn't have a clue how long they've been on....If I had not mentioned it, I wonder how long he'd have kept them on.
He's in our son's room and he's coming back end of July so have ordered some nice new bedding for him 😄

Yeah, that is OCD level of cleaning.

I have OCD and don't wash my towels that much. As long as I don't feel they're "contaminated" for any reason I'm all good. My hands are clean when I dry them. I wash my hands a crazy amount of times though so it's probably every 3 days when they're wet I replace. Only wash them all like once a week though. Bath towel is even less than that. Some people must do nothing but laundry?!

The planet will burn around us but at least people have clean towels everyday🙄

Genuine question (and not because I'm a skanky mare why doesn't change her bedding) but the other day I was wondering what the huge difference was between a bed and a sofa. I wear long-legged pyjamas and a t shirt to bed as a minimum so no more of me touches the bed than when I'm slobbing on the sofa. Most people would wash their sheets every two weeks or so, but how often do you clean your sofa?

I steam clean mine monthly and vacuum it weekly. It gets vacuumed with the wand vacuum daily/when there's a mess on it as dc eat there and wander with food. 🤦‍♀️

That was 2 months ago. Why is he not back in with you? And when I had a major op, I wanted my spouse closer. Not in another room. It just seems all rather odd.

I haven’t had any operations and regularly sleep in a separate room from DP. I love him to bits, but we both sleep better alone! Nothing better than a big bed all to yourself!

Unless he shits or pisses the bed it's not that big a deal.

get off your high horse.

Except, you lose a few litres of sweat every night too...

Thecardboardbox · 02/07/2025 07:25

Your real problem is that you live with a man you clearly dislike, not how often said man changes his sheets.

It's actually, anywhere from about 200ml-700ml. So, under a litre, but about 1-3 cups per person on average. Gross.
About 300,000 skin cells are shed at night in bed. This is a food source for dust mites.
Average number of dust mites: 100,000 to a million.

Washing bedding weekly in water at least 130f is necessary to kill them. If it can't be washed it should go into a hot dryer for at least 15 minutes (pillows, duvets, throws etc).

Just thought I'd throw out some fun facts. 🤓

It's pretty filthy, actually. Your bar is pretty low if you draw the line at shit and piss. 🤮😂

MN is an eye opener.
I've never known such a filthy lot!

We both shower in the morning and before bed.
The sheets are changed every week.

Everyone sweats overnight and it's still sweat even if it's clean sweat!

Towels sometimes twice a week, especially if one of us has a 3rd shower during the day after sport etc.

Ho hum. Noone on here is "filthy".

The only really important thing is that people wash their hands every time they are about to handle food.

This thread is pretty sad.

I thought we were moving into better times when women are waking up to , facing and dismantling the tools of misogyny.
I grew up in the 1960s and as a child I would listen to women make judgement on neighbours laundry hanging outside- how white are the whiites. I thought it vile then and I was only a child. Seems times have not changed as much as I thought.

This thread reads like a 1950s bitchfest.

AngelicKaty · 02/07/2025 08:16

@peachescariad YANBU. My DH strips our bed every Sunday and washes the bedding. Yes, you read that right, my DH does it - bless him. 🤗.We love getting into freshly washed bedding and definitely sleep better. Also, we're on the central south coast and with all the current heatwaves, I couldn't imagine going longer than that.

It doesn't really make any difference how much washing of bedding you do - the mattress will be full of mites and even the most OCD person won't be changing the mattress every week!

I change my bedding every 2-3 days.

YesButNoButMayybee · 02/07/2025 09:21

We changed ours twice this past week and over the weekend. Too hot, too sweaty. It just feels much nicer to be fresh and clean.

As pp said, getting into a freshly made bed is one of my greatest, and most easily achievable, pleasures in life. We always dry our bedding on the line (or at least let it hang outside for a while before transferring indoors if necessary), so it always smells wonderful.

We also air our duvet and pillows regularly, especially when the sun is out.

All the grim incels are here showing their true scummy colours I see. 😂

chocolatemademefat · 02/07/2025 09:27

Four weeks? His bed smells. No matter what the dirty mingers on here say about four weeks or more being fine - their beds smell as well.

100% this. Also see the use of bleach, some really judgy women who thing they're better people bc they soalk their bathrooms in bleach products. God, I hate bleach, ots not just that's it's really bad for the environment, it's just not necessary (mild disinfectant and vinegar are enough). Plus I think that bleach smells like spunk 😆

Perhaps she has lots of towels and doesn’t need to wash them every week because of this?

Festering in the basket
Nice

Exactly.
Why are we tearing each other down like this?

Are we so fragile that we need external validation this badly- over sheets!!!

We are better than this,
Life is hard enough without coming out in judgement over each other like this.

How can we judge ? We don't walk in the shoes of others, we can't know what difficulties and burdens others bear.
Many of us deal with very hard circumstances on a daily basis.
We should be coming together to empower each other, not tear each other down.
I despair if women are still not getting it.

lovenotwar149 · 02/07/2025 11:38

@speakout yep - given the world issues and craziness of life in so many ways it seems many have retreated mentally into competitive housework and ‘ideal homes’ levels of domestic perfection-
