Is it the processed food nature of the nickname you’re objecting to, or the carnivorous-ness? Because we’re all vegetarians and I still call DS ‘chicken’.

Occasionally. Usually in a "silly sausage" context, but sometimes just sausage.

There's a school dad who always calls his child sausage. Always. I have never heard him use her name and I don't know what it is. But he's sweet and kind and she's a happy child so I while it's very mildly annoying, I don't really care.

I want her to actually be called Sausage.

Absentmindedsmile · 24/06/2025 13:52

Sometimes I call our dog a silly sausage. Then he thinks he’s getting a sausage. I forget. So then I have to give him a treat. Which isn’t a sausage. He’s disappointed he didn’t get a sausage.

ihavebecomecomfortablynumb · 24/06/2025 13:52

I’ve never called my child sausage, but I do call my dog sausage.

Kamek · 24/06/2025 13:52

No, but mine is duck!

Ineedanewsofa · 24/06/2025 13:53

Saus, sausage, chick, chickadee, bab, baberino, monk, monkey and occasionally potato as in “you absolute potato!”
Not sure we’d get on very well @Fragmentedbrain 🤣🤣

Sausage is a nice friendly way to address a child, or colleague!

Don't know why or its origins but it's affectionate 🌞

OK. Going into a meeting at 2pm and going to call my manager sausage. Wish me luck.

JustASmallBear · 24/06/2025 13:53

I call my cat a little sausage.

He tells me he isn't a sausage, he's a furry boy.

So I get your pain.

Ursulla · 24/06/2025 13:53

Nobody puts sausage in the corner.

stargirl1701 · 24/06/2025 13:54

First response nails it!

tealandteal · 24/06/2025 13:54

No, but I call them pumpkin

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 24/06/2025 13:56

Yep. Sausage, chicken, 'nana, pumpkin, spud, squish. Many others, all for one child 🤣

I was called Moomin when I was younger.

WhatIsNapTime · 24/06/2025 13:56

I can’t help it I just like a rhyme. I’ve got Sammy sausage and Marnie muffin. Sorry 😬

Apillthatmakesyousayalltherightstuff · 24/06/2025 13:56

Our 97 year old family friend has just started calling our 10 year old 'Snooks'.

Same.

I also used to call my (dear departed) cat “fishface” or if more formality was required, “fishfeatures”. He disapproved, obviously.

Piggywaspushed · 24/06/2025 13:56

My DS used to say sausage wrong so for a while he was Squasage. Also Sweetpea, Sweetie. Sunshine but usually in annoyance.

I am guessing you are a frightful snob OP.

What do you call your offspring? Young Master and Mistress Fragmented?

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 24/06/2025 13:57

Amongst a million other stupid names like pork chop, fluffy bunny, bobble (a la Friday Night Dinner). Sometimes if I’m feeling fancy I’ll call them ‘mes petites saucisses’. Everything sounds nicer in French.

I was called chipolata as a kid as it sounded posher than sausage.

🤣

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 24/06/2025 13:59

I’m sure a Big Brother contestant called everyone “Chicken” and it exploded after that.

I find it far more annoying than sausage.
