To think the US was right to bomb Iran? What am I missing?

I am no fan of Trump. I’m very much left wing.

But am I missing something here? Why has everyone become such huge supporters of Iran? The world is a safer place as a result of removing their capability to develop nuclear weapons? Why is everyone carrying on like Iran is a victim and they were truly just trying to implement peaceful nuclear capabilities? Has everyone lost the plot?

Ahhh. America the Great. And they waited until pretty much the end of the war to step in and we have only recently stopped paying them the huge debt we ended up in.

We stopped paying 20 years ago.

I am willing to trust the US military when they say the operation was a success. I suspect they have more intelligence supplied to them than me.

I mean, I’d hoped that in Iraq but there we found ourselves… misled.
I guess we can only hope, because if they haven’t, and as you say - they do have enough for nuclear bombs, I dread the retaliation,
And that’s the problem isn’t it. No room for error. And I suspect, that’s why a large number of people are deeply unimpressed by this escalation, (I could be wrong though).

Trump is a very dangerous man. A fundamentalist, a Fascist and an egomaniac. He is driven to make a name for himself - and to make his fortune. He is a convicted felon, a liar and has no respect for the US constitution or International law. He is tied to Israel's apron strings - and their leader is as vile a human as is possible to imagine. Two men who have no moral compass and believe they have a god given right to bomb and threaten their way to claim other people land.
The leaders of the US and Israel have nuclear weapons and they scare me more than Iran. Two extremist lunatics in control of a nuclear button. Two lunatics who see no value in lives that are not Jewish or American Christian. (Third Reich stuff)

It's not behind a paywall.

I don't understand your second sentence it was British Palestine where a group of people lived in the two decades after WW2 before 100,000 Jewish people moved in.

I presume your last sentence means that you feel it was right they came to live in the area and occupied homes of Palestinians. (Read Bella Hadid grandparents story: they invited a family of Jewish refugees from Poland to live with them for two years who then took over their house and made them homeless and they had to move to Syria)

It is for me.

And yet its currently the Palestinians being ethnically cleansed. Is that your solution? Kill them all?

There is collateral damage due to deliberate choices by Hamas to embed military targets in civilian areas.
No-one is being ethnically cleansed.

Not yet.

"On 23 March 2025, Israel's security cabinet authorised the establishment of an agency to deport residents of Palestine, as part of Israel’s ethnic cleansing of the occupied territories."

Source: European Parliament questioning.

Addressing Trump's attack at a press conference today, Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said: 'Humanity has come too far as a species to allow a lawless bully to take us back to the law of the jungle.'

I must admit I rolled my eyes at this. Because the way Iran treats women and girls is so civilised - not.

And the alternative? Doing nothing and it being developed? How is that better than the slight chance Iran was warned about the bombs?

It's so weird how the word hasbara gets bandied about on these forums. All countries employ diplomacy and PR, and yet it's only the Israeli version that's dismissed as those nasty Jews telling lies as usual...

I know. Hasbara actually is the Hebrew translation of ‘explaning’ but seems to have been twisted to the meaning most anti Israel protagonists associate with it.

I read an article recently about how bad Israeli PR is as they’ve just about given up as they’re damned for whatever they do.

This ‘Hasbara’ has certainly not been effective anyway.

Maybe the idiots in the White House could accidentally add a MNer to their “Bomb the Shit out of the Iranians 💣🤪” WhatsApp group and we could get some details of exactly how this action will help cement world peace

Yes I think Bella Hadids grandparents should have been able to take the house back their Lodgers stole from them.

Getting dizzy by your circles now.
I explained what I’d do in prior replies. You didn’t like it, you said it’s all been done and this was necessary. We’ve moved past that part of the debate now.

But the lodgers were taking back what was stolen from them. Let’s go round in this circle ad infinitum.

Funny; I’m definitely a woman (one of the ones who has never had a penis), and I’m looking forward to my next trip to the US. Felt safe there before, and feel safe going this time. Would love to move their permanently and escape the shit-show that the UK is becoming, but unfortunately not independently wealthy enough.

elprup · 22/06/2025 21:19

And who can forget this. Just horrific:

StoneofDestiny · 22/06/2025 21:19

None of those - there are more choices in life of where to live.Just like there are more choices in life than to mercilessly slaughter civilians in Gaza and talk about building a beach resort on their graves. Your three options are as repugnant as each other right now

Wow
Settler mentality.

You do know you can't just take stuff the isn't yours. (Well you can if you are a settler but in the rest of the world you can't)

Gaza is (or should we say was after Israel's genocidal campaign) one of the most densely populated places on earth. Conducting the kind of warfare Israel is practically guarantees civilian casualties. How are starving people queuing for food legitimate targets? And yet the IDF keeps killing them. Either its deliberate or they are incompetent.

Gaza City, not the entire Gaza Strip. And even that was by far not one of the most densely populated cities. In this Wikipedia list it's almost at the end, with 6 other Israeli cities being more densely populated.

So not 50k children then, and no distinction between “children” and “Hamas fighters”.

“The group of experts cited over 52,535 deaths, of which 70 percent continue to be women and children”

Edited

The UN press release is saying that there are atrocities taking place in Gaza and that 52535 people have been killed,70% women and children. It also says over 110k have been injured. There are 2.1m living in Palestine - living in ruins, rubble. Food, water not being able to get thru. I live in Brighton - that’s almost the whole of my city living in desolation.

if the UN - an organization formed as a result of nations coming togther essentially to ensure the horrors of WWII would not happen again - is saying atrocities are happening in Gaza, am very concerned.

I am Irish and when IRA were conducting terrorism it would be unthinkable to have a school of thought that permitted the British to conduct the atrocities that Isreal are conducting to Palestine on the reasoning that N Ireland was harboring thr IRA.
