To think the US was right to bomb Iran? What am I missing?

I am no fan of Trump. I’m very much left wing.

But am I missing something here? Why has everyone become such huge supporters of Iran? The world is a safer place as a result of removing their capability to develop nuclear weapons? Why is everyone carrying on like Iran is a victim and they were truly just trying to implement peaceful nuclear capabilities? Has everyone lost the plot?

About 60k people have apparently been killed in Gaza, according to Hamas. Isnt it absolutely amazing that 50k were children, many women, and hardly any Hamas. Unless, of course, a large number of those women and “children” were actually Hamas, or put there by Hamas. What sort of monsters use humans as shields? Far worse than those trying to clear the monsters.

What should Israel do? Give up, write off the hostages, and accept that Hamas will continue to attack Israeli citizens forever?

Exactly. How can you take anyone seriously who is quoting Hamas figures which don’t differentiate between combatant and civilian deaths and , include deaths of non-conflict causes which would have occurred anyway, and include people they’ve killed themselves, and not only those they’ve used as human shields.

The thing is these people NEVER call for Hamas to surrender and release the hostages as we’ve seen on the marches and SM for last 20 months.

There is no ‘exactly’. It’s not true.

Very much hoping you are right

So is Trump bombing all nuclear weapons depots? Including the US ones? Asking for a friend. 🙈🙉🙊

No he is isn't, just nuclear installations of a nation that supports and finances terror organisations whom think it legitimate to slaughter a 1,000 innocent people, and mostly the young,at a Music festival.

He gave the Iranian Government fair notice of his actions if they didn't comply with the rules of engaging in nuclear developlement.

I don't like Trump but think he took the right action against a state that is a grave danger to us all.

ArtTheClown · 22/06/2025 20:46

End the occupation. Two state solution. Stay within its own borders (wait, has it even got official borders?). Stop the illegal settlements. Just a few suggestions to get started with.

And how would that solve anything? Hamas want Israel to not exist. They're not some poor downtrodden freedom fighters, they're Jew hating terrorist fanatics that want Israelis dead.

Beachtastic · 22/06/2025 20:48

It's so weird how the word hasbara gets bandied about on these forums. All countries employ diplomacy and PR, and yet it's only the Israeli version that's dismissed as those nasty Jews telling lies as usual...

And yet its currently the Palestinians being ethnically cleansed. Is that your solution? Kill them all?

Palestine was a desert?
Way to belittle the Palestinians once again.

Can’t access as it’s behind a paywall, but wasn’t that British Palestine, so much to do with actual Palestinians? Is there a time limit on wanting your own land? Do you feel similarly aggreived when Native Americans or First Nation Australians want to take back the land they were driven from?

Exports to Africa exceed $1bn a year. You seem to entirely skip any mention of countries on the African continent. Ultimately I believe in democracy when it’s done properly.

It’s so easy for you to keep pumping out the and what / and then questions. Presumably in the hope that I concede to just dropping bombs because it’s easier? Quite frankly I’m sick of the blood shed, which is entirely because of the low quality leadership across many of the large and influential nations.

What would you do? Would you have dropped more bombs, less bombs, bigger bombs? (Maybe gone nuclear?) What’s your solution?

I would do as Israel and the US have done. I’d have strategically bombed Iran to remove its capability of developing a nuclear weapon.

You are saying things which have already been done - agreements, being inspected, sanctions. They’re in place and Iran is stockpiling uranium anyway.

I’m not asking questions about ‘and if’, I’m asking about the actual reality of where the world found itself. It has the Treaty, Iran is a signatory, and Iran is still developing nuclear weapons. The western/democratic world has imposed sanctions. Iran continues to develop nuclear weapons.

So, what would you do? You’re just repeating things which have already been tried. You could get the entire continent of Africa to cease trading with Iran, which you’d never achieve in the first place, and it wouldn’t matter one to them developing nuclear weapons.

ArtTheClown · 22/06/2025 20:50

There is collateral damage due to deliberate choices by Hamas to embed military targets in civilian areas.
No-one is being ethnically cleansed.

It’s not true though. Arab citizens in Israel have the exact same legal rights as Jewish citizens. Arabs sit in the Israeli parliament. Where are you getting your incorrect information and why are you blindly believing it?

Interesting you even mention voting considering Arabs are now even voting less because they conceded they're interests will never have proportional representation.

Israel is objectively an apartheid state. Defend their settlers, forceful occupations and unlawful imprisonment of Palestinian kids all you like. I will never accept your disinformation.

When you bomb the absolute fuck out of an area the size of Gaza you are guaranteeing civilian casualties. When you shoot at queues of starving people trying to get to the aid YOU are organising - its like shooting fish in a barrel. International agencies agree this is genocide.

Trump doesnt like NATO or the UN, which are the mechanisms for dealing with rogue states, he does like unilaterally acting how ever he wants. Even when its unconstitutional. Because he’s a warmongering thug and a bully and if you think these actions are about removing a nuclear threat (that they have used for over 30 years as a stick to scare the american electorate) and not about lining the pockets of his weapon selling buddies and upping the cost of oil for his pal vlad, then youre the useful idiot you decry.

Absolutely this

We can see the photos of what Israel has done/is doing. How many Palestinian deaths is too much for you? Whether its 1,000 or 10,000 or 50,000, its too many. Anyone who can't see that isn't a decent human being and is blinded by ideology.

One was too many on 7 October but 1194 more joined that figure. It’s like Hamas wanted Israel to react, because they didn’t like the ceasefire or the fact that Gazans were living and working in peace in Israel.

Apartheid states don’t have equality within the law and those they’re trying to crush sitting in their parliament. So how is Israel an apartheid state?

Outside9 · 22/06/2025 20:58

WestwardHo1 · 22/06/2025 19:17

Do you really think this? Do actually not know that not everyone in Israel is the same religion, and that some people don't practise any religion, and that it's a democracy and it's not comparable to Iran in any way? That its universities are world leaders in some fields, that it's citizens are free to criticise their government and vote for someone else if they want to.

I've not heard of any flogging or beheading myself and I have friends there. Still, you know best.

And saying this does not mean I support the actions of Netanyahu and his government in Gaza. But nuance and balance are dying things sadly.

In short, yes I do believe that. There are already examples of pro-palestinian US citizens that the IDF have executed with impunity.

Arabs and Palestinian Israelis do not have the agency to critique the state of Israel, certainly not in the way other groups are allowed. Plenty of videos of IDF arresting people for liking social media posts.

Not to mention in US they're even cracking down on University protesters.

I’m absolutely certain that they were stockpiling uranium. They weren’t doing that as a hobby. They’re not even lying about it, they were developing nuclear weapons. It’s not even controversial.

And your absolutely certain the uranium is now all gone, and the problem has been resolved by these bombs being dropped?

You don’t think they might’ve had a hunch, (even just a little one), that they were at risk of attack? And maybe moved some / much / all of it to other locations? You’re utterly convinced that this has successfully extinguished the risk of Iran having nuclear weapons?

usernamealreadytaken · 22/06/2025 21:04

So not 50k children then, and no distinction between “children” and “Hamas fighters”.

I am willing to trust the US military when they say the operation was a success. I suspect they have more intelligence supplied to them than me.

It's not behind a paywall.

I don't understand your second sentence it was British Palestine where a group of people lived in the two decades after WW2 before 100,000 Jewish people moved in.

I presume your last sentence means that you feel it was right they came to live in the area and occupied homes of Palestinians. (Read Bella Hadid grandparents story: they invited a family of Jewish refugees from Poland to live with them for two years who then took over their house and made them homeless and they had to move to Syria)
