To think the US was right to bomb Iran? What am I missing?

I am no fan of Trump. I’m very much left wing.

But am I missing something here? Why has everyone become such huge supporters of Iran? The world is a safer place as a result of removing their capability to develop nuclear weapons? Why is everyone carrying on like Iran is a victim and they were truly just trying to implement peaceful nuclear capabilities? Has everyone lost the plot?

One poster did answer. She said she’d do nothing because she didn’t care if Iran had them.

Seems to be a mix of it’s fine if they have them and they won’t get them for some reason.

I think a lot of people are very happy to see Jewish people die. They didn’t seem to flinch at 7/10, or when the bibas babies were strangled in front of their mother, or when an Israeli hospital was bombed. For some reason those deaths don’t seem to matter. So I guess they’re happy for Iran and Hamas to fulfil their explicit goals?

I agree. People hate jews Israel so much they believe that Iran is a misunderstood freedom fighter.

Muppets, the lot of them.

"They didn’t seem to flinch at 7/10, or when the bibas babies were strangled in front of their mother,"

There is no evidence that actually happened. It's Israeli propaganda along with the 40 beheaded babies and the baby in the oven.

I don’t this has been answered by anyone so far

You all keep on asking and asking and asking.

Why dobypu think we have a right to intervene? Because Iran is a big bboogey man who hates us for being too awesome and free?

Well, they have bombed and invaded exactly no one in 200 years. The U.S and Europe have invaded countless cpuntries and killed millions of people.

They send money and weapons to proscribed organisations? So did teh US and Israel

Some of them are fanatics yelling outrageous things? So are some Americans/Israelis.

So I can think we can do to them what we would accept they do to us to stop them having those make believe nuclear weapons.

Do you really think Iran is going to show the watchdog its development of weapons?

Maybe they are taking lessons from Israel on how to be transparent about your nuclear stock pile?

Unknown unknowns is the argument Donald Rumsfeld used to justify war in Iraq. As I said, it's WMD all over again.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 22/06/2025 18:34

This all kicked off on October 7th. The Ayatollahs mistakenly believed that backing and providing Hamas with the weapons and intelligence to do this would lead to other proxies like Hezbollah and the Houtis waging a coordinated war on Israel. They were also depending on the rest of the Arab world backing them, whereas Saudi Arabia and others have no interest in this. It has massively backfired on them and the Trump action of taking them out is the only viable course of action. They are a scourge on the Middle East. Nobody likes them.

Well yeh as the issue doesn’t just go away does it even if you or others don’t care about Iran having nuclear capability.

You might be certain it would be fine, based on what?, but not everyone is.

Weaponizing anti semitism to shut down legitimate conversation is so detrimental to all Jewish people who have and are still suffering from anti semitic actions.

No one was turning a blind eye to anything. The Iranian nuclear programme is overseen by the atomic watchdog.

This is WMD all over again.

Not quite the same as Iran’s terrorist proxies have suffered major losses and the threat Iran has propagated for so long is waning, and unprecedented propaganda to force a one sided ceasefire hasn’t quite worked despite massive global pressure on Israel to do so, so it makes sense that Iran would try to rush through alternative means to achieve its goal of annihilating Israel.

The demonisation of the tiny Jewish state has been so successful, that they probably thought no one would really care if nuclear weapons were used (it’s not like they would give a shit about Palestinians nearby otherwise Iran wouldn’t have armed and trained Hamas).

We’ve already seen it in the strange outpouring of support the well documented oppressive and brutal Iranian regime has garnered since Israel started defensive operations and the lack of outrage it’s missiles towards civilian areas has received.

Chalk111111 · 22/06/2025 18:37

Oh come on. ‘Well cede control but well keep our weapons and military strength’. They’d still be running it. That’s not ceding control. That’s changing your name.

’Netanyahu says if there is an opportunity for a temporary ceasefire and a hostage release deal, Israel will be open to this.’

That sounds like a change in the situation to me.

This made me scream out loud. How can you be in control of your own area but not have a means of free passage in and out of your land. You need permission of Israel to register a birth. At times the blockage prevented chocolate coming though. Israel counted their calories. How could Israel just so easily decide to turn off water, power and medicine if Gaza wasn't occupied. Gaza was described as a open air concentration camp. Ca. You honestly say that you would live like that and not be under occupation.

Israel have consistently increased settlements in the west bank.

Disgraceful that @kulafey tries to suggest that Israel does not occupy and control Gaza. It's shocking how low some people will stoop with their lies.

Are you being serious? It promotes terrorism, undermines freedom and undermines democracy.

What do you think Iran was developing nuclear weapons for?

As opposed to USA who recently (well one of them) has pardoned a group who tried to overthrow an elected government ( in my view that's printing terrorism and undermining democracy) and sent government thugs (sorry, I usually try to refrain from using emotive words when debated like this start) to take its citizens off the streets and send them away with no legal process or appeal? That to me does all the things you also accuse Iran of.

I'm not supporting Iran here, but I do think getting into a war is a site easier than getting out.

So, is the USA in for another Vietnam or Afghanistan?

No, the government are fanatics. Your naivety is extraordinary.

JustMyView13 · 22/06/2025 18:40

@Chalk111111 (quote dropped off)

Well, there does appear to be a lot of confusion as to whether they do or do not. Tulsi Gubbard didn’t seem to think there was evidence, now she’s saying maybe. So it appears there’s a similar level of confusion from an intelligence standpoint as there was 20yrs ago.

What would I do?
I wouldn’t exit an agreement on a whim (JPCOA). And I wouldn’t drop bombs on what sounds like shakey intelligence. I’d use the lessons learnt in Iraq to ensure that history wasn’t repeated.

Anyone who doesn't understand that Iran is run by a nihilistic death cult who genuinely crave martyrdom hasn't been paying attention.

"Any ceasefire deal reached would be temporary, the prime minister said. If Hamas were to say they would release more hostages, "we'll take them, and then we'll go in. But there will be no way we will stop the war," Netanyahu said. "We can make a ceasefire for a certain period of time, but we're going to the end."

The statements were true. The first point is merely your opinion, you don't have a crystal ball to see what would happen.

My guess is that Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons for the same reason that Israel did - they're both countries in an unstable part of the world where wars and military strikes are commonplace.

Iran has been developing nuclear weapons so that they can use them on Israel and wipe it off the earth. Those mullahs believe it's their duty. They don't CARE if there's retaliation. Why don't people understand this?

I think i did answer that question earlier. I don't think any country should have them. I think the only way to remove/reduce is through negotiation and careful monitoring. Not by recklessly bombing countries pre-emptively

You should include Israel as a hostile despotic regime. One of the biggest threats to world peace right now.

Israel holds elections, and allows other religions to live and work there in peace, and be part of the government. Very despotic. How are the elections in Iran? Can you point to the diversity in thought, culture or race in the beautiful, free country of Iran (or Gaza, funnily enough)?
