To think the US was right to bomb Iran? What am I missing?

I am no fan of Trump. I’m very much left wing.

But am I missing something here? Why has everyone become such huge supporters of Iran? The world is a safer place as a result of removing their capability to develop nuclear weapons? Why is everyone carrying on like Iran is a victim and they were truly just trying to implement peaceful nuclear capabilities? Has everyone lost the plot?

You don’t care about peace if your solution is violence

you will breed more fear and hatred of the west by your violent actiona

uiu ahve nothing to gain - it won’t stop the program and they will get better and better at hiding it - but you have everything to lose

if it wasn’t for ghe fact you take us with yih I’d happily let you go to an island and slug it out with whoever wants to fight

What would you do about Iran developing nuclear weapons?

Show me the part of the Israeli constitution where it vows to destroy another country. Give me a quote where any Israeli leader has vowed to obliterate an entire people. I can give you many from Palestinian and other terrorist arab leaders

You don’t have to pick any sides to acknowledge that Israel has absolutely obliterated the Gaza Strip & any signs of life within it.

Why do people keep saying this? Do you genuinely believe there is no difference between the USA and Iran?

What about Iran and Russia?

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/06/2025 18:08

Nonsense.

People would rather leave this in the hands of the atomic watchdog than bomb countries. It's the sensible option. Even Donald Trump thought so and he's a fuckwit.

It’s not nonsense. She literally said it.

So that tweet shows that Trump is doing as Obama did and would? But you’re agreeing with 2013 Trump?

I don't care about outcomes. It's actions and intent. The IDF has a legitimate aim of eradicating Hamas. They try to achieve that aim with minimal collateral damage, but a certain amount is unavoidable. Especially given the terrain and how Hamas embeds itself in the civilian population.

If Hamas works hard to put as many of their citizens in harm's way as possible, that's on them. In fact the continuation of the war - a war they started - is on them. They could stop it today by releasing the hostages and surrendering.

The EU review disagrees with your first paragraph . The review is officially out tomorrow which states.
“collective punishment of the civilian population” – which is illegal under international law – and that it also amounts to the use of “starvation as a method of war”.

It also references the “unprecedented level of killing and injury of civilians in Gaza” resulting from “indiscriminate attacks without proportion or precaution”.

And for your second paragraph.
Hamas offered to give up power in February.
Netanyahu has stated releasing the hostages will not change the situation.

What would you do about Iran developing nuclear weapons?

Whilst this may be the case, none of us actually know. What we do know is it’s been 30yrs since the Israeli PM first claimed they were only a couple of years away from having nuclear weapons.

Some of us are old enough to remember the Iraq war & the threats of ‘weapons of mass destruction’.

What about Iran and Russia?

There is one rather big difference between Iran and Russia.

greencartbluecart · 22/06/2025 18:17

It’s not my fault I had to kill them as they were in the way - how pathetic is that?

So, why can some countries have nuclear weapons, but others can't? Who decides?

If it's the case that if your leader is of unsound mind then you can't have them, surely the US shouldn't have any?

Ok, hopefully you are not serious. But just incase you actually think Israel is occupying Gaza, here are some facts.
Israel withdrew from Gaza in September 2005 - nearly 20 years ago.
They withdrew from one sector of the west Bank and shared control of another area in 1995, 30 years ago. Jews are not even allowed inside the third area of the West Bank and are advised to stay out of the shared area for their own safety.

Seriously, you really should understand the actual facts of something before forming an opinion. Gaza has been in control of its own affairs for 20 years and just look what its done with that autonomy.

This made me scream out loud. How can you be in control of your own area but not have a means of free passage in and out of your land. You need permission of Israel to register a birth. At times the blockage prevented chocolate coming though. Israel counted their calories. How could Israel just so easily decide to turn off water, power and medicine if Gaza wasn't occupied. Gaza was described as a open air concentration camp. Ca. You honestly say that you would live like that and not be under occupation.

Israel have consistently increased settlements in the west bank.

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 22/06/2025 18:22

I wonder how many bombs Obama dropped during his first or second term in office, without Congressional approval? Leaving out Afghanistan and Iraq, of course. I remember it was a lot and besides those two countries, something like five other ones. I guess that it just needs to be done sometimes.

No one was turning a blind eye to anything. The Iranian nuclear programme is overseen by the atomic watchdog.

This is WMD all over again.

TheMel · 22/06/2025 18:02

How about instead of looking at outcomes, you look at actions. How many rockets have been indiscriminately fired from Gaza in the past 20 years?

The way I see it, each rocket is potentially at least one dead Israeli civilian. The fact that this didn't happen is purely by the grace of God. But from the Gazan's POV they've tried to kill hundreds of thousands of innocent Israelis.

Well not quite the grace of god but a NEED to develop defensive mechanisms like the Iron Dome, David’s sling and the Arrow.

I suppose constantly being attacked by surrounding hostile countries rather focuses the mind towards developing innovative tech like that which no other country has or needs?

Also the building regs that every home and civilian area must have a bomb shelter.

In addition to Israel not using civilian infrastructure for terrorist activities and civilians themselves as human shields (see above).

It’s rather disingenuous that people don’t take this into account when trying to make a comparison to deaths in Israel as opposed to deaths in terrorist operating areas nearby which includes Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Yemen.

I mean look at where the Iranian missiles that did get through landed in Israel. imagine if the other 95% had.

I think a lot of people are very happy to see Jewish people die. They didn’t seem to flinch at 7/10, or when the bibas babies were strangled in front of their mother, or when an Israeli hospital was bombed. For some reason those deaths don’t seem to matter. So I guess they’re happy for Iran and Hamas to fulfil their explicit goals?
