religion phobic

randomusername03 · 19/06/2025 15:44

is it acceptable to be religion phobic?

Not religious personally, i lump all moderate religions into a live and let live bucket. but the fundamentalist believers, be it westboro or hamas, i do find myself having a visceral and active dislike/distain for. and its mostly fundementalist islam that im aware due to the modern atrocities they have committed. is it bad to say im fundementalist islamaphobic for example?

Well if it is I’m with you.
I have no time for Islam at all but respect all who follow it peacefully but I find it abhorrent to be honest.

TakeMe2Insanity · 19/06/2025 15:50

So the sun has got to you and you decided to spew hate. Nice.

mathanxiety · 19/06/2025 15:50

Are we talking phobia or intolerance here?

And how different are you from the fundamentalists if you are indulging the reaction you say you have?

SerendipityJane · 19/06/2025 15:52

Are you ignostic ?

well im not looking to or actively murdering/raping/oppressing non believers (of what i believe), i guess that might be a big difference 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t like religious nutjobs of any description, be they Hamas, Jewish settlers, evangelical Christians controlling women’s bodies - whoever. It’s not a phobia as it’s perfectly rational.

No, but you are certainly inciting hatred. Effectively making you no better than those you claim to hate.

BruhWhy · 19/06/2025 15:59

I'm wary of zealots of all descriptions. I find them quite unsettling.

Disliking someone because of their fanatical beliefs makes OP as bad as the nutters who want to murder and rape non-believers?

how is it inciting hatred? im not asking other people to hate these beliefs. im just saying I hate these beliefs. although shouldn't most sane people hate these beliefs?

That’s blatantly untrue, we should all be allowed to express our fears about what is carried out in the name of religion and an awful lot needs calling out.

TY78910 · 19/06/2025 16:02

Your post doesn’t make sense. If you were “religion phobic” you would be of the thought that all religion is bad, but you say yourself that you don’t mind the ‘conventional’ religions. If I understand correctly, you’re essentially saying that you don’t agree with extremism which then uses religion to justify criminal activity, in which case I’m sure (apart from the people that are involved) everyone would agree and you don’t need validation for that. Unless I have too much positive intent, and what you’re actually saying is that you hate one specific religion and you want to start a thread where people jump on the hate train.

Dangermoo · 19/06/2025 16:04

It's the root of a lot of evil, imo.

I rather dislike those people who threw bricks through mosque windows and rioted, after that horrible stabbing in Southport. I have a visceral reaction to them even. You could call me idiot-phobic.

Is that ok? Or is it just religious fanatics you're defending?

SnemonyLicket · 19/06/2025 16:05

Yeah I’m against religion as well, OP. It’s always been used by many as a way to judge, demonise and control others.

TakeMe2Insanity · 19/06/2025 16:06

OP you started out with with your disdain for all extreme religions but instead of mentioning the flds or something else you mentioned islam a few times. FYI there are 2 billion muslims like myself who aren’t committing any crimes inflicting our views on anyone but to be repeatedly told we are fanatical is hardly finding peace or finding tranquility.

Can you tell us why so many atrocities are carried out in the name of your religion though?

There is a point of view that if people kept their fanatical beliefs to themselves. them how would anyone know anything about them ?

I mean Barbara and Barry at No. 27 may well be kneeling down every evening and asking their particular sky fairy to smite down with great vengeance those that nicked their parking space that day.

But unless they actually announced it in public. then who would know. Or care ?

It's the pubic discourse bit we need to manage.

Splicer · 19/06/2025 16:09

It’s fine to have a negative view of religious extremists. In fact, it’s fine to have a negative view of religious moderates, if that’s your bag. I’m not sure it’s a phobia though, is it?

randomusername03 · 19/06/2025 16:12

im saying I hate all extremism religion and for the most part the people who carry it out. all of them. but im in the uk and there's not many christian/jewish/Mormon etc extremism being carried out that im aware of, or makes me wary. islam, and I mean the fundamentalist kind, are the only ones I've ever had the misfortunate to be in close proximity to.

if you're not carrying out atrocities who is calling you fanatical? its certainly not me. or do you mean because there are moderate believers people shouldn't be allowed to discuss the fanatics for fear of upsetting the moderates, who most normal people see as a separate group?

There are religious Nut-jobs off all denominations. Some of the awful acts of terror in the US have been done by Christians.

and id say that should that kind of extremism import itself to Britain, especially on the scale of fanatical islam, id be equally disgusted by that as well.

I think British Christianity as a religion is active as a force of good, historically it has provided lots of housing, founded lots of charities, and schools. It’s benign, it’s liberal, it seeks to assist people without oppressing them. It’s unusually liberal and enlightened.
it’s the religions that operate as cults that people tend to distrust.
