religion phobic

randomusername03 · 19/06/2025 15:44

is it acceptable to be religion phobic?

Not religious personally, i lump all moderate religions into a live and let live bucket. but the fundamentalist believers, be it westboro or hamas, i do find myself having a visceral and active dislike/distain for. and its mostly fundementalist islam that im aware due to the modern atrocities they have committed. is it bad to say im fundementalist islamaphobic for example?

Christianity has a long history of doing the same and are you seriously ignoring the sh*t going on in the States right now?

I have no idea what’s going on in the States regarding Christian atrocities currently, can you fill me in?

SerendipityJane · 19/06/2025 17:13

randomusername03 · 19/06/2025 16:42

maybe my question shouldve been is it islamaphobic to hate fundamentalist/extremists Islamics?

How does your hate manifest itself ?

Mild tutting ?

Seriously? Read the news. Women's rights being set back 100 years by fundamentalist Christianity influencing the GOP.

One thing that can get on my pip just as much as religious zealots, are militant atheists. They can be just as bad at shoving their beliefs down other peoples throats. It does really make them seem insecure and afraid of catching god.

Completely agree with you. They turn atheism into a religion, which is SO missing the point.

No I have no idea what you’re referring to.
What terrorist acts have been carried out?

pointythings · 19/06/2025 17:20

KnittyNell · 19/06/2025 16:41

That is very true historically but Islam currently presents the major threat.
Have there been mass atrocities carried out by Sikhs, Buddhists and Hindus in modern history?

I think British Christianity as a religion is active as a force of good, historically it has provided lots of housing, founded lots of charities, and schools. It’s benign, it’s liberal, it seeks to assist people without oppressing them. It’s unusually liberal and enlightened.
it’s the religions that operate as cults that people tend to distrust.

Hmmm I would say that Christianity has plenty of flaws. Look at the priests who turned out to be peadophiles, grooming young boys. Their laws on abortion and basically making it impossible for women, thinking of Ireland and now the US with their laws.

I would also argue whilst there is benefit to the wider society, through charity work and humanitarian assistance, it’s not always altruism. They do good in the hope to get something out of it (a place in heaven)

I don’t think religion has any business in politics and should never be something on which laws are based. The barbaric way some religions view women, who have zero rights is appalling.

If you consider the West as being Christian, then we have Afghanistan and Iraq recently, with deaths in the 900,000’s. They didn’t do this in name of Christianity of course but many atrocities perpetrated by those of a Muslim background weren’t doing it in the name of their religion either, although some were.

No culture/country/religion is untainted.

The missiles used in the US army have a psalm engraved on the side of them. It’s not shouted when it’s fired, but close enough.

SemperIdem · 19/06/2025 17:01

I understand what you’re trying to say, but I think the delivery needs some work before you raise this point in real life.

Extremism in all its religious guises is abhorrent.

Neither Christianity nor Islam are above reproach based on their historic actions. I don’t think any religion is, if you look hard enough.

what should I change about the delivery? people who I've discussed this with appear to understand what im saying and fall into two camps, they either agree or they try to shut down discussion with insinuations/accusations of islamaphobia.

They historically defended themselves from being butchered by Muslims!

All religions oppress women. As a feminist, why would I support that?

TakeMe2Insanity · 19/06/2025 15:57

No, but you are certainly inciting hatred. Effectively making you no better than those you claim to hate.

Would you say that if I was calling out some American Christians for being totally against abortion, or the Catholic Church’s mother’s homes where babies were murdered? Or is it just some religions which should be free from criticism no matter what.

scotchbonnetface · 19/06/2025 17:32

I saw a post that basically said “all religious wars and acts of terror are brought about by grown men, who believe their imaginary friend is better than the other grown men’s imaginary friends”.

Wow.

Exactly how many religions IS Islam @randomusername03?

It's rare for anyone to shout out loudly against Islam because of the fear of what happens next.

Despite all the child rape gangs, bombs, terrorist acts, mass migration, them telling us directly that they're going to take over, despite ALL of that, the majority of people in this country think that Islam is okay.

I honestly lie awake at night worrying about what is happening here.

I mean I hate Catholicism after growing up in a very catholic Ireland - horrible religion full of disgusting treatment of woman by the Magdalene laundries , pervert and paedo priests, horrible abuse

i also have a problem with pretty much all religions and organisations like this ! I don’t get why you can’t just say that

SerendipityJane · 19/06/2025 17:56

randomusername03 · 19/06/2025 17:44

I am on about what I am on about.

Unless you express your feelings how does anyone know what they are ?

What happens if you keep them to yourself ? Asking for a friend.

Taytayslayslay · 19/06/2025 17:57

I disagree with Zionism, and saying that gets you accused of being Anti semetic. So, based on that logic being anti islam extremist does make you some kind of phobic, even though I don't actually believe that to be true.

I think it's okay to criticise the extremists in any religion as long as you understand it's only a percentage who do these atrocities and don't hate the innocent ones.
