Showing support for terrorism is illegal so why do people do it?

Nowayyousure · 19/06/2025 11:36

Well we all know it's illegal, don't we?

It happens though. The flags, the signs, the slogans, the chants, what is said etc.

Kneecap was charged on supporting terrorism. I understand that the charges relate to things like waving the Hezbollah flag and shouting in support of terrorist organisations.

He has been bailed pending trial.

Kneecap's Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, aka Mo Chara, is accused of displaying a flag in support of proscribed organisation Hezbollah.

so if someones suffered under one regime, its ok for other regimes to pile on and do the same?

I'm not altering my stance, you won't be altering yours and hypocrites will carry on being selective when signalling their virtues.

'Terrorist enthusiasts'

My gosh !!!!

You mean those who support the truth and don't shy away from calling out a genocide for what it really is?!!

Proud to be Irish and proud that we have not stayed silent about innocent lives being obliterated by TERRORISTS

Almost laughable the views of some of you on here

And yes

You know it

You feel threatened by a group of working class men who speak the truth and shame you to the core

Let's face facts 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

KittyWindbag · 20/06/2025 14:46

How did the Good Friday agreement come about, OP?

Personally I feel threated by any man who supports groups who hate and murder Jewish people.

hellohellooo · 20/06/2025 15:33

They shame you to the core because they call out a genocide

I would be ashamed to be silent when so many innocents have lost their lives

Over and out

I did not say you didn't suffer trauma. I said you didn't grow up in an oppressive regime.

I know I would never do any of those things as I am today. However, if I had grown up in different circumstances under an oppressive regime, I don't knew how that could have affected me and how I would react/behave. If I had seen the oppressor raping/murdering/starving my family, that has to have a massive impact on how you would behave.

Anyway, there is no point in continuing this coversation as you are convinced you would not be impacted by if sufficiently to behave in a different way to the way you would today.

You accused me of not understanding how trauma can impact people, which certainly implied it. Just because I would never drag children from their homes and murder them.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 20/06/2025 18:01

No. I said you don't seem to understand the impact trauma can have on people. Expecting everyone to react the same way you did suggests you may not understand that people react differently to trauma and that different types of trauma can impact people differently.

I'm sorry you have suffered trauma and hope that you are in a better place now. I'm also sorry that I wasn't sufficiently clear in my post which presumably led to you misunderstanding my point.

Snowstorming · 20/06/2025 18:12

It was once legal to treat and keep Black people as slaves.

just because something is legal, does not make it morally or ethically OK. And vice versa.

Of course there are exceptions like the Manchester Arena bomber - no one in their right mind would support the bombing of innocent people by a psychopath.

i don’t think being pro-Palestine or anti-Israel makes you a terrorist.

I do understand. I also know that I would never murder or rape innocent civilians including children in cold blood. I'm sorry you find that so disturbing.

Do you also feel threatened by pro-Israeli groups and the Israeli government who use Judaism as an excuse to commit a genocide against Palestine? Because that’s antisemitism if you ever saw it, using a peaceful religion as an excuse to commit war crimes.

I'm not sure it being illegal to support Hamas is quite the same as it once being legal to own slaves in some places.

You're dramatically twisting what I said but if you need to do that to feel you have the moral high ground, fire ahead.

I've made my point and there is no point in repeating it any more.

Can you see why some people might support Hamas, even though it is illegal in the UK to so?

I can see why some people might well support Hamas - and I can also see why people don't support Hamas.

And just because I can see why some people might support Hamas does not mean that I do -it just means I can see why some people might support them.

Yes, because they're antisemites.

Yes, I said it was disturbing that you did not appear to understand the impact trauma can have on people's behaviour. You twisted that claim I found your statement you would not murder or rape disturbing. Two very different statements.

"I do understand. I also know that I would never murder or rape innocent civilians including children in cold blood. I'm sorry you find that so disturbing."

It's clear those people support Hamas. We saw that in video footage. I don't see what you're trying to get at, except badger a poster on her beliefs.

It’s not, but I’m presuming the point is that the OP is basing her argument on supporting terror being illegal, rather than immoral. She seems to conflate legality with morality, which I find very odd, and rather naive.

It’s like saying “I don’t understand why people murder others because murder is illegal….”. It’s a really weird perspective.

I am trying to see if someone can understand why someone might become a terrorist or a freedom fighter - depending on your perspective.

Or why someone might not be a terrorist or a freedom fighter but would support them - especially if they have grown up in certain situations - e.g the West Bank or Gaza

There is an overlap of morality with legality. Tbf. I agree the OP was naive with this thread. One look at London, on a Saturday afternoon should have told her that.
