Showing support for terrorism is illegal so why do people do it?

Nowayyousure · 19/06/2025 11:36

Well we all know it's illegal, don't we?

It happens though. The flags, the signs, the slogans, the chants, what is said etc.

Kneecap was charged on supporting terrorism. I understand that the charges relate to things like waving the Hezbollah flag and shouting in support of terrorist organisations.

He has been bailed pending trial.

Kneecap's Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, aka Mo Chara, is accused of displaying a flag in support of proscribed organisation Hezbollah.

Do you know what you would do though and how far you would go if you were in such a situation?

If you're asking that question, then you need to be sure on your facts about land occupation. Many MNers trot out the same 'facts' parroted from social media. Do any of us westerners have a clue about its accurate history?

You might have noticed that I haven't mentioned any country in that statement.

It's a general question.

No, I can say that actually. If you can't then that is quite disturbing.

What is disturbing is your lack of understanding of the impact of trauma on people. Nobody can say what they would/would not do if they have suffered enough.

Whilst people on SM cheer various groups it’s worth looking at who those groups oppress.

Because I know myself. I know I'm not in any situation capable of cold blooded murder or rape. I know I would never phone my mum to brag about how many Jews I'd killed. I have many faults but unlike anyone who does do these things, I'm not a complete monster.

Someone up thread said they would never support a government who does certain things. Are toy going to have a go at them?

I would never murder anyone. I would never rape anyone. I may not be under an oppressive regime but that doesn't mean I've never experienced trauma thank you very fucking much.

I think anyone who says they would never murder someone is either deluded or lying. It's a bit like people saying their dog would never bite. Any dog, if pushed far enough, will bite. Any human, if pushed far enough will kill. How far they have to be pushed is what varies. For some, it will be a last resort to protect themselves or their loved ones. For others, that point will come a lot sooner.

Dangermoo · 20/06/2025 09:04

That's self defence, which is human nature. Raping, mutilation and murder requires a different mindset, just like kneecapping.

Depends on the regime whether it is classed as murder. Murder is simply a legal classification of unlawful killing.

Yes but I'm talking about what Hamas did, which was not to protect anyone. There is no situation where I would barge into a families home and gun them down, where I would violently rape a women before dragging her off screaming. I've suffered trauma, despite your offensive suggestion to the contrary. I havent turned into a cold blooded killer, a rapist, an antisemite. If you find that disturbing or deluded or a lie then whatever. Frankly if you would do any of these things I dont give a shiny shit what you think of me.

I am not in any way justifying anything that happened but if you look into the experiences of palastinian children and the harm they have suffered this may help you understand from a psychological perspective.

💯 I could definitely kill, if my children's life was at risk. I am not sure how capable I'd be, if there was a weapon available, I'm reaching for it.

Do you think Hamas care about the women and children? This massacre wasn't done in their name.

Hamas brutally oppress Gazans who oppose them. As does the Iran regime. People should remember that when supporting them.

I did not say you didn't suffer trauma. I said you didn't grow up in an oppressive regime.

I know I would never do any of those things as I am today. However, if I had grown up in different circumstances under an oppressive regime, I don't knew how that could have affected me and how I would react/behave. If I had seen the oppressor raping/murdering/starving my family, that has to have a massive impact on how you would behave.

Anyway, there is no point in continuing this coversation as you are convinced you would not be impacted by if sufficiently to behave in a different way to the way you would today.

How is that in any way relevent to my statement? Do you think Israeli soldiers that have raped, tortured or murdered palestinians care about women or children? Do you think that is acceptable? I think each member will have different opinions based on their own experiences. I believe lots of members of Hamas were once Palestinian children. And that is not me in any way justifying their behaviour, but giving a psychological reason for their resulting behaviour.

And what do you think people should remember when supporting the Israeli regime or calling Netanyahu a hero? Maybe this?

Other forms of sexual and gender-based violence, including rape and violence to the genitals, were committed either under explicit orders or with implicit encouragement by Israel’s top civilian and military leadership, the report said.

Or maybe this?

Israeli settlers have assaulted, tortured, and committed sexual violence against Palestinians, stolen their belongings and livestock, threatened to kill them if they did not leave permanently, and destroyed their homes and schools.
The evidence shows that armed settlers, with the active participation of army units, repeatedly cut off road access and raided Palestinian communities, detained, assaulted, and tortured residents, chased them out of their homes and off their lands at gunpoint or coerced them to leave with death threats, and blocked them from taking their belongings.

A family packs up their belongings in Khirbet Zanuta, in the southern West Bank, on October 30, 2023. Attacks by settlers, in some cases accompanied by soldiers, forced all the residents to leave.

West Bank: Israel Responsible for Rising Settler Violence

The Israeli military either took part in or did not protect Palestinians from violent settler attacks in the West Bank that have displaced people from 20 communities and have entirely uprooted at least 7 communities since October 7, 2023.

It's relevant because Palestinians have suffered under their own people, too. Sorry, I don't share your empathy and understanding of Hamas.
