Showing support for terrorism is illegal so why do people do it?

Nowayyousure · 19/06/2025 11:36

Well we all know it's illegal, don't we?

It happens though. The flags, the signs, the slogans, the chants, what is said etc.

Kneecap was charged on supporting terrorism. I understand that the charges relate to things like waving the Hezbollah flag and shouting in support of terrorist organisations.

He has been bailed pending trial.

Kneecap's Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, aka Mo Chara, is accused of displaying a flag in support of proscribed organisation Hezbollah.

Israel is a terrorist state. I don't see these as terrorists. They are just highlighting the hypocrisy of Israel.

Scorchio84 · 20/06/2025 04:21

Look I'll keep saying it, they incited violence "Up Hamas, "up hezbollah" "kill a local MP"

way better ways to highlight wars/atrocities

Yes, lovely bit of oppressive language, as well as fuck Israel. Really lovely for the Jewish people to see that. What has this conflict got to do with these two bit rappers and their idiotic balaclavas? Isn't one an ex school teacher, who didn't want anyone to see him crapping! Oh yes, Hamas are the oppressed aren't they? If you're advocating for Britain staying out of conflicts, try practicing what you tediously preach. Glastonbury, I hope all your fuses blow.

But it is interesting that they don’t support Hezbollah but were prepared to wave a Hezbollah flag.
I’m pretty sure they also don’t support Israel, but they would be much more careful to not to put themselves in a position of accidentally waving an Israeli flag which might lead people to view that as support for Israel.

It just isn’t credible to say that they have positive regard for Hezbollah. On the one hand they see themselves as deep thinking, part of the Inteligentsia. But they just aren’t that bright. Their position isn’t coherent.

Martymcfly24 · 20/06/2025 07:01

It's nothing to do with Kneecap
It's nothing to do with Greta Thurnberg
It's nothing to do with Gary Linekar
It's nothing to do with Pro Palestinian marchers
It's nothing to do with people who post on social media.

If what Israel is doing is so right and moral I fail to understand why they are so pressed by people criticising and highlighting it.

We need to bring back censoring Sinn Fein and deny them the oxygen of publicity !

They are pop music blowhards who thanks to all their critics have done the Streisand Effect and made them far more popular then they would otherwise be,

Dangermoo · 20/06/2025 07:09

Because they are hypocrites, who don't give a damn about the hundreds of thousands of murdered civilian Muslims in Syria and Yemen. I can call it murder, can't I if what's happening in Gaza is genocide? @martymcfly24

Scorchio84 · 20/06/2025 07:14

tá éireannanch mé, be careful someone might complain

TheIceBear · 20/06/2025 07:21

I think what Israel is doing to Palestine is absolutely atrocious and disgusting and I am sympathetic to the Palestinians. However I’m Irish and I find kneecap really annoying and not funny. I also think saying things like “up hamas “ is very foolish and doesn’t help the cause of the Palestinian people.

It was absurd and comical at the same time. It was Maggies idea to dent terrorists the oxygen of publicity - she would ahve been horrified by social media and the current climate of almost anything goes. She probably would have handbagged Trump as well.

You asked the question - did I not give you the answer you wanted?

There was no question.

It was a musing about the fact that Israel cannot stand criticism of it's actions and support of Palestine.

cakeorwine · 20/06/2025 07:53

devourfeculence · 19/06/2025 19:29

Well I certainly wouldn't do what Hamas did.

But what would you do?

And I bet you find that a difficult question to answer, like me, as I presume (maybe wrongly) that you haven't lived in a country that has been occupied - and all that comes with that occupation.

I think that question is only possible to be truly answered if you have experienced such a situation - and even then, it's the people who did so something that can answer that question of what they would do - and why.

Bitchesbelike · 20/06/2025 07:56

People in Gaza are oppressed by Hamas too, hence protests and subsequent death as a lesson not to.

What can they do about that when so many are supporting their immediate oppressors.

devourfeculence · 20/06/2025 08:12

OchonAgusOchonOh · 19/06/2025 22:23

You say that having grown up, never having known oppression. You don't know how you might act if you had endured the oppressors murdering and torturing your family.

I would like to think I would not commit atrocities but I, like you, have grown up in a free country and in a position of privilege so can't say certainty how growing up in those circumstances might impact me.

No, I can say that actually. If you can't then that is quite disturbing.

Probably because much criticism is coming from ignorance. I mean, Thunberg's selfie yacht was a masterstroke in stupidity. However, as with Kneecap, both have proven that their big egos and popularity matter more than hundreds of thousands of civilians caught up in ALL wars.

EasternStandard · 20/06/2025 08:17

To add to last post same with Iran. Women brutally opposed by their oppressors whilst people support them.
