Would you go to Cyprus

Due to go to Cyprus mid August. Would you go? Seeing stuff on the news that is worrying me but no idea whether it’s just the media scaremongering.

The only worry would be the American bases on Cyprus I think there are two. Iran has threatened American personnel and these could possibly be a target. I’m trying to find the link to post.

Qatar have just closed all airspace and US and U.K. citizens have been told to shelter in place.

I presume this is because Iran is about to make a retaliatory strike.

Could this happen in Cyprus?

I live here and currently feel very safe. Whilst the news makes stressful reading I would just read any updated travel advice and base decisions off that.

as much as we (uk) are aligned with Cyprus I’d actually feel safer in turkey as it’s a NATO member

I fucking love Cyprus. But I personally wouldn’t go at the moment it’s just too close.

the only think that would concern me is the air bases there which could be a target for Iran. I also read today how many Israelis have been transferred there as their airspace has been closed -plus also many have left Israel to go to Cyprus on ferries to get to a safer place. Cyprus is a popular holiday destination for Israelis as so close.

That said, if I had a holiday booked I would still go unless the FCO advice changed. If someone could change fee free now to an alternative destination and felt more comfortable doing that then it would make sense to change

From memory there are or were the two UK Sovereign Base Areas (Akrotiri and Dhekelia) and one or other smaller facilities.

Probably I would if already booked. Maybe not with kids. You might not know if it’s safe til last minute though as situations change.

It’s too far in the future to know what the situation will be by then. If it was next week I wouldn’t go, but who knows what will be happening in 2 months time.

Yes I would. If there are credible threats they would be acted on and the government would advise no travel.

Just been 2 weeks ago didn’t consider not going and would absolutely go again this summer if given the chance.
