To say that most heavy duty physical labour is done by men? When was the last time a female plumber, builder, roofer, painter and decorator, drain unblocker, or boiler or washing machine engineer came to your house?

Sorry I meant a female boiler engineer!

I need some work done in my house. Any of you can DM me to carry out the work. For a start I need the garden being tidied up. DM me if you can do the work and I will pay you. Bet I dont hear from anyone.

Why in the flying fuck would any woman in her right mind want to touch your house with a barge pole?

Totallymessed · 15/06/2025 21:01

OP, please say what part of the country you're in, I'm sure there will be someone who can help. Like I say, if you're in Bristol, give me a shout, I can do the job for you.

Just woman things: giving out your address to randoms through DMs.

Am I right, ladies?

Also I have "mother issues." 😅🤣

The emojis here are giving strong ‘bloke on Facebook who’s lost the argument’. Seen it one too many times.

Man realising it's not as easy to impersonate a woman on the internet as he thought

Totallymessed · 15/06/2025 21:06

Come on OP, put up or shut up. Do you need work done or not? If so, say what part of the country you're in so people can offer to help.

Otherwise, what's the point of the thread?

TheeNotoriousPIG · 15/06/2025 21:07

@Firefightress1 Well done on your extra qualifications and experience! I know what you mean about the awkward shift patterns when you have children. I go to work when most people are fast asleep (or perhaps rolling in from a night out!) and my hours horrify the general population at large. Are there many female firefighters about? (I don't know any firefighters at all!). Apparently, there are more women than men in agriculture these days, but I'm yet to meet them all!

Hats off to your DM, @Kelticgold ! I'd love to learn all about fishing!

On a general note, if anyone thinks that farmers are thick, we're not. Actually, we're quite a philosophical bunch (probably because we work on our own a lot, and you need more to think about than what's for dinner!), with a sideline in livestock midwifery, minor vet work, mechanics, plumbing, chain-sawing and some electrics, among other skills! Some of us even have degrees...

Maybe someone is getting a bitter that his ex did a better job of being a dad so there was no father's day card on the mantle piece today!

But many "manual" jobs are as intellectually demanding as the majority of degrees. Try understanding the physics behind plumbing systems or how electrical circuits are made safe.

Compare and contrast with spending a decade getting three degrees in gender studies, which result in you being incapable of objective reasoning, or indeed of anything of any help to anyone.

No the “tough manual” jobs that op has referenced are not the same intellectually as a professional job that requires a degree. If you’re doing an apprenticeship most of the manual jobs require a few GCSEs. Some like painting might not even need any qualifications. Degree level is level 6 then level 7 at masters etc. So I really beg to differ. Luckily I didn’t waste ten years of my life studying for three degrees in gender studies isn’t it.

I along with most people my class in year 9 also learnt how electric circuits are made safe as well learnt how to a change a plug socket. We were 13/14.

I need my back garden cleared up. A tree cut, weeds cleared.

I've done that and I'm female. Honestly no big deal. I used to have a husband, but he did sod all DIY and heavy housework - that all fell to me.

My last boiler service was done by a female.

If men died out tomorrow, women would cope. They would learn to do the jobs and they would develop tech to deal with the strength and danger issues.

Shall I use another word then? Perhaps unintelligent?

Having a degree is seriously overrated if you ask me. There are many important, useful things you can be doing in this world that don't require a degree.

Most professional jobs require them. In my industry it’s a must. But I suppose painting and decorating is a useful thing to do.

I don't think it is about intelligence, it's about different aptitudes. Some people are academic, others have practical and craft talents. We need the full range of talents.

Within that, there is a horrific level of embedded sexism, and I do wonder how many girls are steered away from electrical engineering and car mechanics towards hair and beauty instead - and how many boys conversely are pushed towards engineering and plumbing when their aptitudes actually lie in the hair/beauty/design type jobs.

We are a very long way from abolishing the concept of 'pink' and 'blue' jobs. And OP's attitude is not helping that at all.

Fair enough. I do actually have a degree in physics, but I'm sure learning how to wire a plug at school taught you all you need to know.

Tbh when people start listing the levels of degrees as though this proves anything, it just makes me think that Tony Blair made a huge mistake in pretending that 50% of the population were capable of degree level study.

Yes! We are still in the minority but more than when I started! And all a strong, positive bunch. This sh*t sets us all back 20 years!

Are you saying mining jobs are good for women seeing as we are going for Net zero 🤔 😅

No, I'm not. I don't think mining jobs are good for anyone. It's one of the most dangerous fields to work in.

Women are supposed to admit we're all too weak and lazy for "man's jobs" and would be lost without men 🙄

OP is just a troll, which is why they won't come out and make their point. They're fishing for a response that will make women look like hypocrites who can't admit how much we really need men.

Like all trolls, OP is incapable of nuance, and can't understand that most women have quite rational and nuanced opinions about this, actually. Which go as follows:

  • In reality, "men's jobs" are a broad spectrum. Some of them women can do without a struggle, some we can't.
  • Some women feel more comfortable hiring another woman for these jobs, but there is still plenty of work out there for men.
  • Most women aren't sitting back laughing at men who do hard and mucky jobs.
  • Especially not working class women, who often count them as loved ones.
  • More women are joining the trades and the sky hasn't yet fallen in.

It's not complicated. There's no "gotcha" to catch women in, OP.
