To say that most heavy duty physical labour is done by men? When was the last time a female plumber, builder, roofer, painter and decorator, drain unblocker, or boiler or washing machine engineer came to your house?

Gotta be a woman to do the work.

Gardening? You've never had a woman gardener?

Totallymessed · 15/06/2025 20:50

YourAmplePlumPoster · 15/06/2025 20:50

I need my back garden cleared up. A tree cut, weeds cleared.

What part of the UK are you in?

BMW6 · 15/06/2025 20:51

I think with modern technology and H&S awareness physical strength is going to be increasingly unnecessary.

In the last 30 years women have started training in traditionally male dominated skills - Plumbing, Electrician, Decorating, even building and yes roofing.

Of course it helps that the tools themselves are no longer designed exclusively around male physiques - hand size for example.

I personally know a female plumber and decorator. My niece is an engineer.

In the recent past women were barred from these occupations. The OP is still mired in that mindset - that women can't do these jobs.

The vast majority certainly could, if they chose to or if needs be, I'm absolutely certain.

JayJayEl · 15/06/2025 20:45

Academic qualifications do not make you superior.

And neither does doing a “manual tough job”

PractisingMyTelekenipsis · 15/06/2025 20:52

I'm rubbish at gardening. But I can paint, do DIY (eg put up shelves, build flat pack furniture). Plumb in a washing machine or dishwasher.

Mind you, i don't want to to go to some random man's house either!

YourAmplePlumPoster · 15/06/2025 20:46

I need some work done in my house. Any of you can DM me to carry out the work. For a start I need the garden being tidied up. DM me if you can do the work and I will pay you. Bet I dont hear from anyone.

Because you sound like an absolute arsehole, there isn't enough money you could pay for any of us to work for you.

WhistlingalongtheMudFlats · 15/06/2025 20:52

Please nobody attend to OP's 'back garden' with its weeds and fallen tree.

ScarlettOYara · 15/06/2025 20:52

People keep asking you whereabouts you live. Tell us, then someone on here can either do the work or recommend a woman who can.

Well most of us with allotments could certainly tackle that!

No physical strength required - just the right tools and knowledge.

AFAICT he is asking in code for humiliation, waxing, cock and ball torture, and maybe pegging.

OP, this is Mumsnet, not fetlife. And your list of requests runs to about £750 minimum.

Hoooray · 15/06/2025 20:55

I do most of my own painting and decorating but when I've had someone in the last two times I chose a woman and she was much tidier about the job than men I've had in before.

I would choose a female plumber / mechanic / engineer etc 100% of the time if I had the option. Hopefully one day I will.

She’s clearly never heard of Charlie Dimmock or Carol Klein if she thinks there are no women gardeners. Seriously OP, have you never watched Gardeners World?

Totallymessed · 15/06/2025 20:56

BrickHare · 15/06/2025 20:51

And neither does doing a “manual tough job”

But many "manual" jobs are as intellectually demanding as the majority of degrees. Try understanding the physics behind plumbing systems or how electrical circuits are made safe.

Compare and contrast with spending a decade getting three degrees in gender studies, which result in you being incapable of objective reasoning, or indeed of anything of any help to anyone.

Thats maybe because women don't want to do this kind of work. We all know that we can't beat men when it comes to sports as Navratilova said so why do we think we have the strength to clambour about on roofs or climb into sewage drains?

Plenty of women do manual labour. Keeping men out of women's sports is a separate issue.

For all the "we" you're using, I suspect you're a man. Climbing on a rooftop or down a storm drain is not the kind of a job a woman would think she's not strong enough to do, compared to a man. We don't faint at the sight of ladders.

Very weird thought process, for a supposed woman to have.

I don’t need to be clever or have a degree to paint a room or unclog a drain do I? 🙄

Having a degree is seriously overrated if you ask me. There are many important, useful things you can be doing in this world that don't require a degree.

If the OP is a woman she is a repressed and self-hating manual labourer who never got to live as her true self

And gladly so!

But what’s your POINT??

my elderly mother needs round the clock personal care involving lifting, moving, toileting, cleaning, food preparation, personal care like hair and toenail cutting.

do you think many applicants would be male? If not, why not?

Anyotherdude · 15/06/2025 20:59

I don’t get many people in: myself, DH and DD do most of those jobs as a team, but British Gas have never sent a boiler engineer to us - although I know they exist…

ScarlettOYara · 15/06/2025 21:00

Mate, tell us where you live and women will be round to sort out your garden, your dishwasher and your teasmaid.
