To say that most heavy duty physical labour is done by men? When was the last time a female plumber, builder, roofer, painter and decorator, drain unblocker, or boiler or washing machine engineer came to your house?

Give him time! Being indignant is absolutely exhausting.

😆

Tbh OP, several of your examples aren't really tough manual jobs, although I agree they are male dominated.

Having recently seen my uncle receive personal care from (female) carers who visited three times a day to turn, wash and make sure he wasn't suffering any kind of skin problems, I would say that is a job that is as physically demanding as any on your original list. Plus the risk of being assaulted by a confused and frightened, but physically strong, man.

As far as people going on strike goes, I'd put my uncle receiving vital health care above having my windows cleaned or my drains unblocked tbh.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 15/06/2025 20:17

Over the past 20 years in my property, not a single female in to repair the boiler.

Have you considered the fact that you might be a massive misogynist? 🤔
Unless you're on a remote island somewhere it's pretty easy to find a female who'll do the tasks listed in your op professionally. Or, shock horror, you could learn to do stuff like that for yourself.

BrickHare · 15/06/2025 20:28

Was it mother?

Did mother attempt to change a tyre and it turned her into some sort of mad Women's Libber like Germaine Greer on steroids and she refused to wash your sheets after you turned 45?

Can you answer the questions about the comparison with those women who work on sanitation and caring roles?

The differences in salaries between those and trades?

Why male dominated roles are trades while women dominated roles are unskilled?

Why nurses are more highly trained, doing hard labour yet paid less than gas engineers?

In light of this things does that at all I fluence your view?

What about the points regarding women facing mysogyny in male dominated trades and being forced to leave in the training stages? Your own comments about women raped in mines?
.you still think men are just stronger 😂

Not all men

Definitely you though

Anyone can do those jobs though? You don’t need a degree or masters do you? Would hardly call it snobbery. You do need a degree to do a professional healthcare job which is women dominated. I’m I saying all men are thick? No. Im saying men who do these jobs are. Come on, keep up.

Doing these jobs well takes intelligence. Not classic academic intelligence necessarily, but there are all kinds of ways to be smart in this world.

JayJayEl · 15/06/2025 20:32

BrickHare · 15/06/2025 20:18

A lot of men choose these “tough jobs” because they are too thick to do anything else. No “tough jobs” involves using your brain.

Woah, woah, woah.
I'm not sure what point the OP is trying to make, but this comment is vile. Ashamedly, I used to think the same as you when I was a teenager/young adult. Not any more. My BIL left school without a single qualification. He is now running his own 'tradie' business, and doing incredibly well. He's brilliant at his job.
There are LOTS of ways that you can be intelligent (and skilled!). Not everyone is 'book smart'.
Your attitude is at least 20 years out of date. And, quite frankly, rude and ignorant!

Have you had a sense of humour failure? It's sad really that the pp had to explain he wasn't serious.

That makes it ok then does it? We can all say anything we like as long as we claim it’s just a joke? Sounds a bit like people who say ‘I’m not being offensive but…..’

How safe is it for women to go alone into random homes for service calls? Is it really a general career field we can encourage more women to pursue without any concerns?

Women go into random homes for work all the time, cleaners, nursing staff, social workers to name a few.

And another thing about 'heavy lifting' - you just need to think a weeny bit about how you're going to move that great big heavy thing and it lifts/moves; it's a woman thing but has always stood me in good stead.

We've just had a new development of various types of housing. I was surprised to see quite a few women working alongside the men. But materials are getting lighter, fittings more technical, rather than needing great strength to put together. I'm seeing that in flat pack etc furniture and drills and other equipment is also getting lighter. Now women are fed properly and we are allowed to exercise how we want, we can handle it. However life should never have been turned into a sex based competition.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 15/06/2025 20:36

Give over OP

Do you know that women don't want these jobs because they're 'hard physical labour'? Or do they not want these jobs because when they turn up at customers they get asked to make the rea / asked where their boss is / get keeled at because its male dominated industries?

DissidentDaughter · 15/06/2025 20:37

Oh for those halcyon days when saviour men, with their god-given strength, single-handedly pushed HGVs 100 miles down the motorway in driving rain, or flew intercontinental aircraft flapping their strong, manly arms.

Shame on you witches for your spite and ingratitude 😂

I did read somewhere that most angry, women hating men are still pissed off their mother took the boob away during their toddler years.

Yes this is true. Lots of jobs are mainly one gender or the other. People who work in creches/ nurseries/ old people's homes are women. Teachers of young children- mainly women. Manual jobs, mainly men. Is it a problem?

They aren't random. It's known who the resident is and the first point of contact will be done in pairs.

Judging from ALL the men that have came to my house and fixed, painted etc I would disagree.
