Career or looks in women?

What do you think it more important for a woman? I’ve seen some very beautiful women do well in life without a “well paid” career.. I get that career will make your own money but is a career really necessary if your attractive?

Yes

Coffeeloveer · 13/06/2025 17:08

I’ve found women working themselves into the ground for a career and not have much time for themselves and women who don’t work/ have their own little projects e.g. beauty business but look after themselves do well long term…

Surely it depends on what your life goals are? And your value system. What a fucking ridiculous and stupid question.

samsonny · 13/06/2025 17:10

Looks fade then what do you fall back on?

Nurseryquestions86 · 13/06/2025 17:11

Well I for one am an absolute stunner with a high flying career to boot.

I actually am neither but I'm pretty happy!

SilenceInside · 13/06/2025 17:12

What do you mean by "do well in life"? What things are you valuing that you think attractive women are able to get that don't relate to having a career/well paid job?

AgnesX · 13/06/2025 17:12

What age are you? Having your own career gives you more freedom. Surely that's stating the obvious.

HatsOffToThePigeons · 13/06/2025 17:13

WTAF. How do you monetise "looks" without some sort of career?! The example you give of a beauty business is a career choice, and anyway, beauty therapists aren't monetising their looks, they're monetising their skillset in helping other people feel good about themselves. They're also one of the most underpaid careers out there (disbarring "aesthetics").

SoManyTshirts · 13/06/2025 17:15

This is a similar way of looking at life to “my granny smoked like a train and lived to be 100”. If you’re young enough not to remember the question, you’re young enough not to remember all the women that died - or in this case fell into relative poverty and obscurity.

Self-respect has to be earned.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/06/2025 17:15

Wow. What an old-fashioned and deeply sexist question.

A career isn’t necessary for anybody.

A career is necessary for me because I enjoy making my own money and being financially self-sufficient.

Exactly this.

babybabytime · 13/06/2025 17:17

What a weird question

Arseynal · 13/06/2025 17:18

Specifically how do women who don’t work do well long term? Normal women I mean, not someone who has vast inherited wealth.

Hillarious · 13/06/2025 17:22

What a strange world the OP inhabits. Beautiful women with a strong command of grammar and spelling will always do well career-wise.

Coffeeloveer · 13/06/2025 17:23

Sorry I mean as in they can use their beauty to marry into money etc and wouldn’t necessary have to work… where as I’ve seen women working hard not have anytime to take care of themselves sorry if it comes off as sexist It was just something I’ve noticed..

baggybags · 13/06/2025 17:24

Most people aren't beautiful so wise to get a career.

I suggest women are best to work hard for a career and gain some self respect. Then they can decide whether there are any men they fancy and that meet their standards.

Only a small handful of attractive (or otherwise) women will be able to "marry into money" which isn't a guarantee of security and certainly doesn't give you any independence or ability to support yourself. You are clearly reliant on the good will of the man you have married, for as long as you are married to him.

So most attractive women won't have that option, and should look to support themselves however they are best able. Like everyone else.

Are you male or female.

CraftyNavySeal · 13/06/2025 17:26

I don’t think its either or, you’re more likely to get good career opportunities if you’re attractive tbh

I'm pretty sure that's known as being a ponce?

Or if male, a cocklodger?

greencartbluecart · 13/06/2025 17:27

For reasons of Self respect, and longevity and depth of any relationships , and interest in life, ability to really control your life - career over looks

plus there ard not that many very rich yet shallow men in the world

Running your own beauty business is a career, so I have no idea what you mean by doing really well without a career.

Do you mean corporate career? Have you seen the graduate cohorts in law firms, consultancy firms and investment banks? Some of the women are stunning.

A bit of a ridiculous question/thread all round, I’m afraid.
