At what age should you stop wearing jeans ?

When are you too old to wear jeans? I've always worn jeans, tee-shirt, fleeces etc. I wore a uniform at work. I can dress up when it's warranted and scrub up quite well. But it's unnecessary and over the top for going to the chip shop !
I do wear nice tops and cardigans when meeting with my friend for lunch.
Is it time to embrace the polyester ?

You just get jeans with some Lycra in them. Trust me, I'm there and have been for some time!

Same.

“Comfy, elastic waist pants” - I loathe the word comfy.

There are clothes that aren't jeans?

True but the OP made a thread specifically about jeans.

arcticpandas · 13/06/2025 04:49

My aunt (80) looks fabulous in 👖 and shirt.

I’m flat out refusing to wear anything polyester 🫤

Me too. Never. That seems to be younger women though, in those hideous tiered floral dresses.

My question would be what age do you start wearing jeans and the answer would be never. Bloody uncomfortable things. The only ones that are even close to comfortable look awful. I do have what has been described as a long waist so maybe that's why I hate them so much.

I'm very long waisted and I've always worn jeans. I do look and feel awful in skinny leg ones though, I seem to need straight or bootcut to balance out my proportions, no matter what style is trending. I also avoid low rise. I'm 61.

Yes, there are!

<whispers> they're called leggings.

TimeForATerf · 13/06/2025 05:30

Never. My mum wears M&S mom jeans and she’s 89, slim and looks great. Why would you ever stop?

historyismything82 · 13/06/2025 05:33

I'll wear jeans until I want to. Who said there's an age cut off? Utter silliness.

Barney16 · 13/06/2025 05:35

Same time you are too old for Topshop. Which is never.

Aah. Sorry thistimelastweek, I misunderstood your post.

Yes, leggings - surely they’re more comfortable than elasticated polyester?

MustardGlass · 13/06/2025 05:44

I genuinely think ( and I don’t think I’m being unreasonable) that you should definitely stop wearing jeans when you need large incontience aids.

Shetlands · 13/06/2025 05:44

My Mum is 95 and has never owned a pair of jeans. She wears smart trousers out and jogging bottoms in the house.

I'm 71, have worn jeans since I was 14 and have no intention of giving them up - ever!

CurlewKate · 13/06/2025 05:49

God knows on Mumsnet-probably at the same time you start wanting a “big slipper” a lap tray and a nice scarf for your birthday. And when you start showing “early signs of dementia” and should only go shopping during the day. Around 45?

Is that the big slipper where, if you don’t keep your wits about you fall over when you stand up?!

winterdarkness · 13/06/2025 05:52

When they interfere with your adult nappy? When you decide that they are not comfortable? I’m 55 and I love my jeans. I’ll stop wearing them when I stop looking good in them

alikelylass · 13/06/2025 05:53

Never !

Why? Incontinence pants make your bum look baggy whatever you're wearing, so you may as well wear things you like. Elasticated polyester 'slacks' definitely don't flatter a shapeless arse 😏

How funny. I just thought today as I pulled on my jeans that I wondered if there was a point at which wearing jeans would seem strange. I’m in my 60s. I actually prefer my wide leg cropped linen pants that are my go to but it is freezing here at the moment (Sydney) so jeans it is.

45 at the latest 😏 Oh, and you should have booked your one-way ticket to Dignitas, pausing only to hand your house and pension over to your children - while wearing polyester crepe trousers and a waterfall cardigan.

The kids probably gave you the Big Slipper and the lap tray in hopes that you'd trip over your feet, crack your head open on the dropped tray and expire gently among the remains of your supper. "She was getting on a bit," they'll murmur sadly, "but she always kept herself nice. She was 46, you know." 👵

KeineBedeutung · 13/06/2025 06:12

Never, if you find them comfortable/practical/attractive.

I'm getting buried in mine.

Me too.

IsItWickedNotToCare · 13/06/2025 06:18

Whenever they become too uncomfortable... I hate them!

terracelane23 · 13/06/2025 06:22

Why wouldn’t you wear jeans at any age? Strange question.
I know plenty of people in their 70s - 90s who wear jeans.
