At what age should you stop wearing jeans ?

When are you too old to wear jeans? I've always worn jeans, tee-shirt, fleeces etc. I wore a uniform at work. I can dress up when it's warranted and scrub up quite well. But it's unnecessary and over the top for going to the chip shop !
I do wear nice tops and cardigans when meeting with my friend for lunch.
Is it time to embrace the polyester ?

When the menopause fades, the waist widens and the hips disappear. This is when the comfy elastic waist pants come along and the jeans hit the donation pile.

Most cuts of jeans are far more accommodating of a straight body shape than an hour glass. With the exception of levi ribcage, unless you've 8 inches or less between hips snd waist you're stuck with lycra and a very snug fit over the bottom or a belt and waist gape.

What age?

501 surely

@MarxistMags You sound quite conformist for a Marxist - can't we just all wear whatever we want or are jeans bourgeoise this days?

Edited

Red dresses, apparently. And aprons. Lots of aprons 😉

When you are dead

My GF who would have been 103 now (he did live until 93) refused to wear jeans and was exasperated by how all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren lived in them. If we wanted to make him smile we would turn up not in jeans.

He had to leave school at 11 and started life as a labourer in a ship yard and had to wear jeans or denim overalls.

He worked really hard for years, taking on extra work, going to evening classes 5 days a week and eventually became a draughtsman.

Jeans reminded him of poverty and the hard climb he had to get out of it. And now we all wore that as fashion, he never could get his head round the fact that we wanted to dress as labourers. To the day he died he wore a suit, shirt and tie. He was, rightly, proud that he had been able to loft his family out of the slum where he had been born to enjoy a middle class existence.

But I will be wearing jeans, Sorry Granda, in my coffin.

Tina294 · 13/06/2025 07:56

I don't wear jeans because they never fit me well and I find them uncomfortable, but if I liked wearing them I wouldn't stop at any age.
How old are you anyway? Please don't say 35!

My dad was the same. He would be 91 now if he www still with us.

He always wore trousers and a shirt, even just at home. He would never have worn jeans.

I never stated the OP could. My response to the poster you’ve replied to was asking a genuine question which was did she think jeans look awful on everyone or just herself, a reasonable question, yes?

You seem annoyed.

My dad hated jeans, said we looked like communist peasants in our party uniform and blamed The Beatles for making them popular 😂. Don’t recall mum ever wearing them either. I live in mine, no plans to give them up.

MIL, she’s 84, still occasionally wears them.

DontSpareTheTalons · 13/06/2025 08:13

Never! I want to be buried in my Jeans.

My reply (question) was to oviraptor.

BunnyLake · 13/06/2025 08:16

Only when they become too uncomfortable. I haven’t worn jeans since my mid-fifties because I’ve got a bit too chubby round the middle so zips and buttons are a no-no.

ZiggyPlaysGuitarrr · 13/06/2025 08:22

My MIL was cremated in her favourite jeans, age 86.

My DM lives in jeans at 70.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 13/06/2025 08:25

You don’t say how old you are, but I live in jeans at nearly 50. Well, usually bootcut jeggings now because they’re comfier. Why would you stop?

TheChosenTwo · 13/06/2025 08:27

FluffykinsTheFerociousFeralFelineFury · 13/06/2025 00:48

I'm getting buried in mine.

Ah that’s reminded me my friend was cremated wearing his favourite holey jeans! Not holey by style choice but because he was notoriously tight, bought one pair of jeans and then wore them beyond the point of acceptability 😂 he even slept in an older pair that were so threadbare they were almost see through! When his dd sorted his house out she kept very little but the threadbare pyjama jeans.

Papyrophile · 13/06/2025 08:34

Well, according to my late DM, sometime after 89! She wore them most days, although latterly with elasticated waists.

Fearfulsaints · 13/06/2025 08:39

I think jeans are for older people! I don't see teen or twenties wear them much except when dressing up. They wear joggers more.

I

Inertia · 13/06/2025 08:59

Obviously there’s no age limit, but as I age I find myself seeking out soft clothes. Jeans were always a go-to for me, but now their sensory qualities feel very unappealing.

Oh no, when I'm not wearing jeans then I'm wearing joggers. When will I be too old to wear them?

I dont actually believe in an age cap to clothes.

But you won't be, the age of jogger wearers will just rise as that generation grows up, and a new youth will come in with something else so eventually joggers will look older.

TheBewleySisters · 13/06/2025 09:13

I’m 71 and wearing a black pair right now. With a black tee and biker boots.

Natsku · 13/06/2025 09:22

MonetsLilac · 13/06/2025 07:34

Me too. It's difficult though, so many clothes are made of polyester.

I have been able to mostly avoid it but my work trousers are poly-something so have to wear nasty feeling trousers but at least our t-shirts are 100% cotton.

Ahsheeit · 13/06/2025 09:26

My ex mil bought her first ever pair when she was 74. She then wondered why she'd never done it before.
