At what age should you stop wearing jeans ?

When are you too old to wear jeans? I've always worn jeans, tee-shirt, fleeces etc. I wore a uniform at work. I can dress up when it's warranted and scrub up quite well. But it's unnecessary and over the top for going to the chip shop !
I do wear nice tops and cardigans when meeting with my friend for lunch.
Is it time to embrace the polyester ?

Just turned 76 and still wearing them 😀

yes in my mums generation (born 1950s) and before that
I’m glad you weren’t aware, they are ridiculous controlling expectations

I was born in 1955 and was not aware of those rules. Not that I would have followed them if I had.

My10centsworth · 15/06/2025 13:09

When you don’t want to.😂

Lins77 · 15/06/2025 14:17

I'm in my late 50s (blimey, how did that happen?!). I don't wear jeans that much, but not because I think I'm too old! I have good legs and tend to wear knee length or just above the knee skirts. Or shorts if the weather allows. I love wearing shorts. My knees probably aren't what they once were, appearance-wise, but so what?

BlondeCircus · 15/06/2025 18:48

Bit of a strange question as I not only wear jeans I wear whatever I want to regardless what anyone thinks, I’m one of these women that would probably laugh at anyone who tried to tell me otherwise

soupforbrains · 17/06/2025 09:17

My dad was born in1943 he wore jeans trough his entire life until his passing earlier this year aged 82. my 80yo mother born in 1944 also still occasionally wears jeans. She’s more of a skirt wearer than a trouser wearer generally so it’s not often but she does. There certainly were assorted dress rules in past times but mostly people are able to adapt and adjust if they want to.

Proseccoagain · 17/06/2025 20:10

Still rocking jeans and I'm 80! Will never.stop wearing them....

Caligirl80 · 17/06/2025 20:40

Where whatever you want! There's no upper age limit for jeans! If you want to wear a ballgown every day you wear that. You want to dress like a skateboarder? You do that. Stop worrying about what other people think of your clothes!!!

NiftyScroller27 · 18/06/2025 20:33

There isn't an age limit on wearing jeans, I've seen plenty of elderly people still wearing jeans

Nanof8 · 18/06/2025 21:24

My Mom is 84 and wears jeans. I am 66 and have no intention to stop wearing jeans.

LlynTegid · 18/06/2025 21:27

I don't think you can be too old, as styles of jeans and indeed colour vary. And some fashions for jeans are or were hideous regardless of who wears them.

Laserwho · 18/06/2025 21:32

My parents who are in their 80s have worn jeans there entire life, why would they stop now? The younger generation didn't invent them you know 🤣

BarBellBarbie · 18/06/2025 21:52

I don't know, post cremation probably

Disturbia81 · 18/06/2025 21:55

I feel sad for people who stop wearing something due to what others think. We’re only here once

Just rude.

Indeed. If you don't want to wear jeans when you are older there are plenty of alternatives to polyester.

Likewise those who choose to wear something because it is supposedly fashionable. Such as those who cut off the bottom three or four inches of jeans or other trousers in 2019.

NormasArse · 23/06/2025 19:58

When you no longer feel comfortable in them?

That could be at 3, 16, 34, 51, 77, 102…

Okiedokie123 · 15/11/2025 20:39

113 years old seems about right.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 15/11/2025 20:42

I fully intend to be cremated in mine. Why on earth would I stop wearing jeans? I’m nearly 50.

CurlewKate · 15/11/2025 21:21

My mum was 93 when she stopped wearing jeans. It was about a week before she died.

Disturbia81 · 15/11/2025 23:38

I saw a woman in her 80s wearing jeans on the bus the other day and she looked fantastic, she really stood out

AlertCat · 16/11/2025 08:11

The generation who basically invented jeans, now in their 80s, are often still wearing them and why the hell not? No need for beige polyester slacks if you don’t want them.

I want to be wearing my jeans in my coffin. It would feel fitting.

EmotionallyWeird · 16/11/2025 09:06

Not an age, but a mindset. My dad wore jeans in his 80s and I thought they looked good on him, but he liked to buy them second-hand so they already looked broken in, and he wore them with soft checked shirts and wool jumpers. I think if someone of any age is tempted to wear stiff new-looking jeans with smarter tops, and especially if they like to iron a crease in them, then they are not really a jeans person and might be better off choosing something else.

Laserwho · 16/11/2025 09:08

My parents now in their early 80s have been wearing jeans their whole life's. Why would they stop now?

hazelnutvanillalatte · 16/11/2025 09:12

My grandparents are in their mid 80's and wear jeans. As long as you can physically get them on and wear them and be comfortable, why wouldn't you?
