AIBU to feel sorry for Wynne Evans?

He has NO clue.

Watched his interview on breakfast tv, explaining away all the misunderstandings, jokes and social experiments he was involved in which resulted in his BBC contract 'not being renewed '.

He played all the cards, mental health, dead brother, context, editing.

Of course he was in the studio to promote his latest venture, hoping to drum up interest.

Why do so many people ruin the amazing chances they're given? Baffling.

I am a baffoon who has made gaffs, inappropriate jokes and made bad impressions on people so I can relate and feel sorry for celebrities who are cancelled

it sometimes feels very harsh that one or two miss steps ends a promising and lucrative career

he seemed such a nice guy and we all love a humble rags to riches story

some celebrities do deserve it , obviously the sexual predators and I lost sympathy for gregg Wallace who doubled down with a big dollop of sexism and ageism

Dangermoo · 11/06/2025 13:16

Not sure whether you're being unreasonable, but I know he is an idiot.

Rvethetgergwtbteh · 11/06/2025 13:21

I read the interview, but didn’t see it, but from what I read he spent the time blaming everyone else and taking little responsibility beyond minimising his involvement. He hasn’t done himself any favours.

Dangermoo · 11/06/2025 13:24

I just wonder if he needs to be centre of attention all the time. He's a great singer and I get the feeling his Go Compare ego is his outlet for that thirst.

MasterBeth · 11/06/2025 13:29

Oh no, the sex pest got cancelled!

Solution: don't be a sex pest.

myplace · 11/06/2025 13:32

It’s the classic route.

I didn’t actually mean the nasty stuff, it was a joke. I’m really surprised no one found it funny. They always found it funny before, why isn’t it funny? Why is everyone picking on me?

randomchap · 11/06/2025 13:40

Amusingly mumsnet decided serve up the advert for an interview with Boris Johnson with this thread.

Maybe it picked up on words like buffoon and gaff?

MaryGreenhill · 11/06/2025 13:42

I like him and he's so good on his radio show . What l don't like is the Beeb cancel ppl without the audience having a say in the matter .
Perhaps we would want to show the other cheek and give him a second chance

How could the public decide though?

I suppose they’ve had so many shamed celebrities in the bbc they could create a series out of it and we vote them off 🤣

Dearg · 11/06/2025 13:54

So this is the same Wynne Evans who got handsy with Katya , then made a crude comment about Jannette Manrara? Then got called out about it and told us all about his poor mental health?

Absolutely brought it on himself. Katya was his first chance, Jannette was his second. I don’t have any more cheeks to turn.

The BBC is culpable given that issues with Strictly had been raised before, but as ever they pay little attention as long as the programme and/ or talent is performing well in the rankings.

If they are employing him and he’s inappropriate or a sex pest, it’s got nothing to do with the audience whether or not he stays. He messed up at work and lost his job. That’s just natural consequences.

DiscoBob · 11/06/2025 14:02

He seems like a bit of an attention seeker..always with the 'woe is me'. He used to do interviews about how the general public genuinely wished harm upon him and he was abused in the streets because of the character he played on a TV commercial.

Well, stop doing them then? It's not like he was wearing the moustache and opera suit while shopping in Aldi. I bet nobody would even recognise him without the costume.

Coffeeishot · 11/06/2025 14:05

I had to switch it off, I started watching but I couldn't cope with his bemused attitude to the whole thing, I lasted about a minute.

letsallchant · 11/06/2025 14:09

Is this yet another man getting prime TV time to talk about how sad they are that they're now facing the consequences of their own actions? Let me get my tiny violin out.

Murdoch1949 · 11/06/2025 14:10

He is a manipulative liar. He tries to come up with alternative scenarios for why he talked of a spit roast with Janette. To claim that Jamie Borthwick (with whom he is obviously friends) is so bendy they called him spit roast boy, is laughable. Borthwick no doubt agreed with him coming up with this explanation, months later, and as he wanted to help Evans out. Borthwick is now in trouble himself for using an offensive term for disabled people. Evans needs to crawl away and learn how to be truthful.

Endofyear · 11/06/2025 14:30

No sympathy for him, I've always thought he was creepy. And he's proved me right!

Umm it's not the audience who suffered the man's behaviour is it?

He had his second chance after the wandering hands episode. He blew it.

I think you're onto something. How about "Celebrity Perv Off"?

Though it would be deeply depressing to see what a vast array of options the casting directors had to choose from.

Yep. The series would be never ending, with constant supply of celebrity male pervs and pedophiles waiting in the wings. Like you said, depressing - but I'm afraid sadly true.

Reddog1 · 11/06/2025 16:25

I didn’t see the interview today.

He struck me on Strictly as someone who was the overweight, awkward kid at school who one day found out that he could make the cool, sporty, attractive girls and boys laugh. So he always played the joker, sometimes making them laugh and sometimes going too far and making them feel awkward. But he never grew out of that behaviour. Despite his good career (music, tv ad, radio show) and his two lovely children, he is still the plump kid on the periphery in his mind, keen for acceptance.

thatsawhopperthatlemon · 11/06/2025 16:31

He thinks he is a bigger celebrity than he actually is, which is: 'moderate opera singer / minor bloke off the telly'.

As for the totally inappropriate, crass and sexually offensive comments to work colleagues that got him sacked, as far as I'm concerned he shot himself in the foot. It was his own stupid fault.

TheTwoLeggedGrooveMachine · 11/06/2025 16:46

Exactly. He has something new to promote? That'll be why there are proposal stories in the papers today.
