AIBU to feel sorry for Wynne Evans?

He has NO clue.

Watched his interview on breakfast tv, explaining away all the misunderstandings, jokes and social experiments he was involved in which resulted in his BBC contract 'not being renewed '.

He played all the cards, mental health, dead brother, context, editing.

Of course he was in the studio to promote his latest venture, hoping to drum up interest.

Why do so many people ruin the amazing chances they're given? Baffling.

But why would the term 'spit roast' even be in Evans' head in public and in front of reporters at a press call ? (Not that it would have been okay in a professional environment without reporters there).

He knows exactly what it means and I don't for one second buy the 'explanation' he and Borthwick have cooked up. And it wasn't the first time he'd been warned, it's just he was let off the hook previously.

I can't find a violin tiny enough.

The fact he said it on camera gives weight to the fact that he didn't mean anything by it. If it was a nickname then he wouldn't be watching where he said it.

There is a lot of evidence that supports his version of events, but regardless he was stupid to expect people to get the context when you have to look for that. The Daily Mail don't care if it's true or not, and they're certainly not giving a balanced version of events.

It'll get to the point where nobody will go on those shows, because one questionable move and it's your career over.

He stated he didn’t know the cameras were still rolling when he said it, which actually gives weight to the fact he knew it was wrong!

He was in front of a load of press! Hardly hiding it.

Oh well, that’s ok then 🙄.

All of these male celebrities have pretty much done these things infront of an audience because they think they are funny/amazing, but mainly untouchable. And now they are learning the hard way that we are in 2025, not 1975.

He seems like a bit of an attention seeker..always with the 'woe is me'. He used to do interviews about how the general public genuinely wished harm upon him and he was abused in the streets because of the character he played on a TV commercial.

Well, stop doing them then? It's not like he was wearing the moustache and opera suit while shopping in Aldi. I bet nobody would even recognise him without the costume.

I don't watch Strictly so don't really know what went on and don't really care. However I disagree that hr should have had to give up the ads because some people were so thick they thought it was ok to be abusive

hattie43 · 13/06/2025 17:49

He’s an idiot . Was given golden opportunities and threw them away with his vile ‘ jokes ‘

Americano75 · 13/06/2025 18:05

I'd like to pitch Celebrity Beast Island, like Love Island but the twist is they don't get to leave.

He just used that as a reason to sell stories about himself. His agent told him to say it probably.

Nobody else who works as an extra in adverts 'needs' to go on telly moaning about how the public won't leave them alone!
Counterproductive one would think.

And he got kicked off the adverts because of the strictly debacle.

Well Katya has defended him loads of times and says nothing happened. She's posted about how she's missing her "darling boy". Wynne has posted a video of them doing the high five joke numerous times so apparently it was indeed a running joke between them.

No complaints were received about the spit roast comment, according to the BBC themselves, until the Daily Mail video. Wynne said he called Borthwick "spit roast boy" and the video seems to back that up.

I think it's juvenile nonsense, but to call him a "perv" is unjustified with what we've seen.

Yes exactly.

Katya has repeatedly defending him, I don't think she'd be shy in complaining if he acted inappropriately.

The sex toy was daft but blown out of proportion.

No one has made a complaint against him, it just seems to be tabloid fodder.

I feel bad, I believed their narrative and that he was a creep, before listening to his side.

Reminds you that there are real people behind the headlines. Poor guy was on suicide watch.

Yes let’s all feel sorry for men who when they get caught out as misogynistic dinosaurs play the mental health card. Wah wah.
I’ve been there feeling suicidal, because my mental health fell apart not cos I got called out for being a twat.

He has talked about his mental health loads, and has done much to normalise that years before any of this happened. You sound like you could learn something from that. He does have mental health issues.

I find it quite bizarre that people are so trusting of the tabloids to be honest. There is no way this has been reported honestly and accurately, and the accusations themselves are pretty flimsy even then. There's nothing to prove he's a misogynistic dinosaur. He may be, but there's not enough evidence to state that yet.

You know nothing about me but are willing to say I have lots to learn. But a celebrity man you leap to defend. Sorry that I don’t have a dick.

@TheWonderhorse Most of his behaviour happened infront of our eyes on the actual show, and the videos of his and Jamie’s behaviour is also in the public domain. It’s nothing to do with “trusting the tabloids”.

I'm not leaping to defend, I'm just not prepared to call a man a predator and a perv when the evidence to base that on isn't there. He called Jamie spit roast boy, which is not predatory, it's juvenile.

I've said he was stupid and childish but so were your dismissal of his health issues. You actually said "wah wah". He has been talking about it for years. Here's a link to a 2002 article..

What did you see though? Two jokes between friends?

Inappropriate language absolutely but not a predatory perv. Let's keep some perspective.

Inappropriate language and Katya looking very uncomfortable as Wynne slid his hand around her waist in a very pervy way. Most will be women on here, most of us will know how it feels when a man does that.
Maybe she is at fault too, who actually knows? But it was Saturday night family TV and his behaviour was highly inappropriate. And that was before we all found out what him and Jamie were up to behind the scenes.

Excuse his behaviour if you like, but we need zero tolerance on men like this or more will slip through the net.

Rvethetgergwtbteh · 14/06/2025 00:19

@TheWonderhorse In most normal places of work he would be in a lot of trouble, if not fired for his behaviour. Buying Sex toys for colleagues and groping women like he did would be classed as sexual harassment in ANY workplace.

randomchap · 14/06/2025 00:25

He made sexually inappropriate comments in a workplace.

He can fuck right off.

Hopefully this will help other women raise their concerns and will make dickhead men think before they act

Personally I think we need a scale of language for people who tell stupid juvenile jokes and actual sex offenders. The word predator means nothing if it applies to people who have shown no predatory behaviour.

His hand on her stomach didn't look pervy to me. She moved it, fine, she has said publicly that she has no problem with Wynne and missed him when he left, calling him her "darling boy". I think we should be able to let women police their own boundaries and not present them as victims when that's not how they feel. It's patronising to do otherwise.

Yes, it was entirely inappropriate. But not predatory or pervy.

To be fair, dancing involves a lot of physical contact, we don't know where their personal boundaries are. Again, Katya has no problem with Wynne.

It’s a sliding scale of male celebrities using their position of power to act highly inappropriately. I bet he wouldn’t have done it if he was dancing with one of the male dancers.

He was on prime time family tv when he groped Katya’s waist - even if a male checkout operator in a supermarket did that to a female checkout operator and a customer complained, they would be in trouble.

In this instance it wasn’t just about the woman in question it was about the viewers including children seeing him behave like that.

Completely agree he was a bit of a twat - which he's 1) fully admitted 2) apologised for.

It's how tabloids are running story after story and not giving a shit about the impact on that person's welfare.

If there are actual substantial complaints or criminality at play then that's the person's fault - Russell Brand, Hugh Edwards etc and they deserve whatever press they get.

But the lines have blurred so much that the likes of Wynne being stupid get exactly the same treatment as the disgusting individuals above, when I agree with PP, it's a scale.

Russel Brand has been charged with sexual offences. Hugh Edwards has been convicted of them

Wynne Evans hasn't been treated the same as either of those men. Quite rightly. He hasn't been accused of anything illegal. He has been accused of sexual harassment in the workplace and, as a result, has not had certain contracts renewed.

Don't want the consequences? Don't be a sex pest.

That's exactly the point- he hasn't been a sex pest, he hasn't been accused of anything and had zero complaints against him.

It's all been taken out of context and made up.

He had the same level of vileness thrown towards him as RB and HE (actually, I remember seeing lots of 'apologists' in support of those two but not with Wynne).

It's just reminded me not to believe everything you read and to remember real people are involved.

He made physically and verbally inappropriate, sexually charged, comments and actions in his workplace. It's possibly gross misconduct under UK law i.e. a sacking offence, and certainly enough to be a factor in choosing not to renew his contract.

Chat shit, get banged.
